Lean and Kean
I liked your comment "Lean and Keen" - I think, no I do believe that is the key to staying lean and keen .....doing something worthwhile, interesting, physical and working with people and animals - birds included. Structure is also good. I know this is our third year on the road for the winter months and I flounder without structure. Proud of you for continuing to learn and grow and stay warm all at the same time!!!! Jackie

so right
thanks jackie, your insights are right on. It took us a while to get used to the early rising and early to bed - a bit too much structure - but liking it now. Enjoy your desert wanderings!

Dedicated to culinary adventures.
You guys must be on new-experience overload. Great pictures and we're very much enjoying the way you're spinning the tale.

WOW!
Seems like an incredible learning experience. Good thing you both are young and in fantastic shape. Who else can say they were invited guests to the Deer Harvest Dance. What kind of wine did they bring? Probably from the Hamptons! Ann-Tim

patched knees
In one photo of Ron descending the rock face, I saw the patched knees. Smiley faces? Ron, I am certain Tam would have sewn on anything you wanted. Why smiley faces? ;- ) PaulK

Poor Dave!!!!
I was just checking my spam file and low and behold there was your notice of y our blog in the blasted spam folder!!! I got it out and just read it. You guys are really lucky with that tire. I am surprised that you didn't feel it. We have never pulled a trailer or fifth wheel just the motor home so I am guessing it would feel differently in our rig. I am sure you will get used to the change of getting up early for "work". It must be hard after being able to just get up when you wake up. I know it would be for me. I was at work in Kidney Dialysis by 4:20AM every morning and darn if sometimes especially at home I still open my eyes at 3:00AM. Or, one of my two cats will tap me on the cheek to remind me it is breakfast time for them! If the tapping doesn't do the trick, Jonas will start to gently knock things off my dresser until that gets my attention. Unfortunately my cats are with my girl friend back in the UP of Michigan. I miss them so much and enjoy seeing pictures of Dave. I am so glad he graduated to the truck!!!!! Poor baby. Sometimes I think it easier to be with animals then the humans!!! I can just see him in his waste basket!!! He is one smart kitty cat!!! We too almost ran out of gas around the Ft Stockton area. Another gas gouging area was between Sanderson and Marfa, Tx. Marathon. The gas was $.70 cents higher in Marathon then in Sanderson or Marfa. Marathon is the only way down into Big Bend so they have a captive audience in that area. We were warned in Sanderson when we got propane to get gasoline for the vehicle there too! She thought it was "only" $.30 more!!! Looking forward to your posts. I finally posted again a couple of days ago after visiting the caverns. Richard is the disciplined writer!!! Be well, Jackie

What an adventure just getting there!
Wow what an adventure you have had already and you have only just got to your destination. So glad that lady said something to you about your tire or it could have been much worse. You lucked out too where you exited. Can't wait to hear about the next adventures that you have!! :)

Sounds great!
Tammy - so good to hear you are once again on the road. We are in New Mexico at the present time also. We are in the little (and I do mean tiny village) or just outside of Rodeo, New Mexico. This is our third stay at Rusty's RV Ranch and we like it here although as you mentioned, temps can go way down at night. We left Columbus, New Mexico in the Pancho Villa State Park on Christmas Eve to head west the 84 miles to Rodeo. We ended up leaving a day later because we had 2-3 inches of snow in Columbus. We Michiganders know how to drive in snow but......the locals down here not so much! We arrived at the RV Park with sunshine and a dwindling of the snow. The park is owned by Rusty and her husband Tim who are helped by her Dad, and Mom. They put on a Prime Rib dinner for Christmas and it was great. Potluck and as luck would have it no two people brought the same dish!! We will eventually head west to Arizona and from there who knows!!!! Be well, enjoy the refuge and the work. Jackie
