NOTE to Laura - only loaded pics from 2/15/2017 more to upload when timePuerto Jimenez is considered by many to be the gateway to the Osa Peninsula and where many provision up to head into Corcovado National Park. We came here several years ago and have really enjoyed our time spent here. Through doing research, Robert found Cabinas Jimenez, a place that has both kayaks and bicycles for the guests to use. We have come to enjoy kayaking the manglars here and so make sure to make our reservations to coincide with high tide early in the morning so we can take advantage of the kayaks. The other place we enjoy staying is Cabinas Tropicales. Geo: 8.64, -83.17We had watched the Golfito ferry arrive at the dock in Puerto Jimenez and decided to check out the ride. We had gone to the ferry landing the day before and seen how the loading went. There is a ticket salesman at the dock where you buy your ticket to get aboard. The cost of the ticket is $6 per person. We had decided to take the 7:00 a.m. ferry because our experience in the tropics is the earlier the better! Robert had called Luis and he gave us a ride to the ferry landing and one of the workers helped load the bags on board the ferry.Got on the ferry as soon as possible and sat in the front of the boat. The ride was so incredibly smooth and took only about 30 ... read more

Geo: 8.69371, -83.6581This is mainly a compilatio n of several days worth of pictures from around town. We did not go to the "duty free zone" so cannot report on that area but did just enjoy walking around the main street and the kayak trip and two hikes above town.Because we had such a nice view from our room, it was nice to just sit outside and eat lunch and watch the world go by and also the sunsets were great from our porch so this was a fun stop for us and maybe next time would do a little more exploring of some of the side streets.... read more

Geo: 8.69371, -83.6581Because, it was such a climb came up with the idea of getting a taxi to take up to where we had stopped on our first hike and then climb to the top. Found a taxi willing to take us up the road and off we went. The driver's name was Luis and he actually as from Puerto Jimenez and knew some of the people we knew there. We were heading up the road visiting and talking about changes in Puerto Jimenez and in Golfito when we started hearing some very loud calling. What is that? Luis stopped the vehicle and we got out to see what it was. Luis was the first to spot the Three Wattled Bell Birds that were making the calls. We thanked him for the ride and started from there. ... read more

Geo: 8.64, -83.17We had been told there was a great hike up a steep road to the towers above town but were not given exact directions. We knew which way to head and started early (6:15 a.m.) in our quest for the road. Asking questions we finally found our destination.Directions: Road by the school and soccer field, sign for Canopy tours where you turn left, and soccer school across the street. There is a bus stop where you can catch a ride back to town for 275colones.The road is steep and you keep climbing up and up. There are some straightaways but it is a very steep and rewarding climb. Because we were hiking in the early morning, we had shade for most of the way up and even on the way down. Also because of the ... read more

Geo: 8.64, -83.17After we arrived by bus, went to the office of Tierra y Mar and checked in. We were taken to our place and given a short tour and possible places to eat and explore. The room we stayed in had a small refrigerator, microwave, toaster and outside sink area with two chairs and table inside our gated area and a communal area to share with room next door.We had a great view down to both the Fishhook Marina and Banana Bay Marina and out to the Golfo Dulce and points beyond. Geo: 9.45, -84.15We have found the most inexpensive way to travel in Costa Rica is by bus. Of course, the experiences can vary depending on what type of bus you are riding. For our trip from Quepos to Golfito, we had a great experience with a bus that was air conditioned with very comfortable seats! We had been told the bus from San Jose would stop at the bus stop across from the hospital and would arrive there around 9:00 a.m. We went to the bus station in Quepos the day before and bought tickets for 7090 colones each. We had been advised to buy the tickets in advance because if all the seats have been paid for the bus may not stop or you have to stand for the entire trip. The ticket agent told us ... read more

Geo: 9.38945, -84.1347Another walk we enjoy is one that is right next to the park. As you are heading to the park the last road to the left leads to a garden path on the right hand side at the end of the road. There is a well developed trail that winds around and ends up across the stream from the park.We visit this trail most times we come to Quepos Manual Antonio. This year we did not see as many birds as we have in the past but still enjoyed the walk.We were ending our visit to Quepos Manual Antonio so we enjoyed food and drinks at some of our favorite places to eat. Had lunch at Emilios where they a great view back down the coastline to the park as well as excellent food. ... read more

Geo: 9.38945, -84.1347The gentleman that has the place where we were staying told us about the old Manuel Antonio Road as a good place to hike. How to find it.............Two ways........If leaving Quepos, the road between the church and soccer field continue straight instead of taking left to head up to Manual Antonio or take the road heading to Manual Antonio and turn right at Hotel Romantica and follow the road up to the right. The road winds up the hill giving you great views back along the coastline. Saw several nice birds along the way including several Cherrie's Tanager couples. They are so beautiful and you see them all over Costa Rica. The male has a brilliant red back and the female several muted colors. There were lovely flowers all along this route as well. ... read more
