Malaysians love shopping, which explains the vast number of luxury malls, stores and street- side stalls in the capital, Kuala Lumpur. The Ministry of Tourism and Tourism Malaysia organises a thrice yearly national sale campaign to be held as follows: Malaysia Grand Prix Sale, around March/April to target the visitors coming to Kuala Lumpur for the Formula 1 Grand Prix; Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival, around July/August, also known as the “mother of all sales” in Malaysia; and Malaysia Year- End Sale, around November/ December to celebrate the year-end festivities. In 2008 the Mega Sale Carnival earned nearly RM150 billion (1RM=VND6,000) in which RM2 billion were spent by Malaysian tourists, the rest by international tourists.
