We enjoyed our free breakfast at our hotel. Eggs, bread, and fruit. We met for our first tour down the street at 8:15am It was already hot and muggy. Our tour guide: Slim Jim, was a talker! He spoke pretty good english and joked with an australian accent. Even though we were only 60km outside the city, the buses don't move to fast because of traffic, and we spent hours throughout the day in the bus. Our first stop was right outside the city where they made paintings out of crushed egg shells. I bought one of course because they were making them right there (later i saw the same ones for like...a fifth of the price ) We were back on the bus for 2 hours. We got to the Cao Dai Temple at noon. ... read more

We got to the Incheon Airport in good timing. We sat around and waited for a long time. Once we were seated on our Vietnam Airways flight, we realized that we were on a 6 hour flight! We had no idea it was so long. It was a nice flight though. I had pleanty of leg room and i sat in the middle of two people. We were served a nice meal with free drinks (including wine). Much better than all the United or Delta flights I've been having experience with. We walked off the plane and the heat from the engines hit us in the face. It was so hot. And then about 3 yards later we realized that wasn't the heat coming from the plane, that was just the outside temperature! Hot and muggy. ... read more

Ok, so we didn't freeze to DEATH...but it certainly felt like we came close to it. GSIS (Graduate School of International Studies) sponsored a 2-day whitewater rafting trip. We left Ewha at 5:55pm (5 minutes ahead of schedule, which in SK is VERY ahead of schedule. On time usually means 5-10 minutes later! haha) It took us about 2 hours to get there. I will continue to say 'there' because to this day I still don't know exactly where we went. haha How aweful is that? We arrived at around 8:30 at night. I was exhausted and starved! I hate eating past 7pm but I was so hungry that i was willing to make an exception. We dined on Korean BBQ..mmmm! I ate SO much meat! ...and rice, and something that was like eggs and veggies, ... read more

No, this isn't an attempt at an April Fool's joke. Last night, I attended the DPR vs Korea soccer match. Getting there was the craziest part of the whole night in my opinion. EVERYONE was heading to the stadium so the subway was PACKED. I was squished, herded, pushed, shoved, and squished again just to get onto the train. haha It was so crazy! People had their faces painting, singing loudly cause they had already started drinking. It was crazy. I wasn't really sure what to expect. I never would have thought that North would play south, let alone that NK had a soccer team at all! From the game and the atmosphere itself I wasn't expecting anything, but at the same time I was expecting everything. It's not like I thought there would be nuclear ... read more

*Deep Breath* AAAAHHHHHH....I love the smell of fresh mountain air! It was a crisp day as we headed out to go hiking. The sun was warm and the air was cold. I wasn't sure where we were going but lea assured me her friends had everything under control. We went to Bukhansan National Park. I was a bit skeptical. After packing my bag the night before (pocket knife, granola bar, first aid kid, water, cameras(fully charged), sunglasses...) I half wondered if this was going to be a hike or a nice path up a big hill, where men in business suits and women in high heels would be passing by me. Our group was 7 people. The majority of which were canadians, which gave me the opportunity to listen to their proununciation of words. That way ... read more

Today, Nobel Peace Prize winner George F. Smoot gave a talk at EWHA. He received his title for Physics in 2006. I can't really write too much about the lecture, because to be honest, I didn't understand a lot of it. My knowledge in physics is minimal at BEST! haha But basically his findings proved the Big Bang theory correct. Also Einsteins theory that the Universe isn't expanding to be wrong, that the universe is expanding. It was pretty cool though to hear a Nobel Peace Prize winner speak so it deserved an entry. I only wish I had something more intelligible to say about the subject. ... read more

Again today, it was a BEAUTIFUL day. At just over 70 degrees some could almost have said it was 'hot.' I had no plans and all I knew was that I wanted to be outside in the sun so i ventured up to the track again for a run. Everyone was outside today, enjoying the weather. On the track, women were there pushing strollers, kids were playing soccer and running. Others were just helping their child make a couple steps in the grass before they fell back down again. I was out there for just under two hours, and its funny how all kids are the same. All parents are the same, no matter where in the world you are. The kids were just chasing after eachother playing soccer, grabbing onto the backs of shirts to ... read more

Monday afternoon while walking back from a failed attempt at finding the groceries I needed, a loud alarm sounded. People seemed to be hurrying along their way, but nothing out of the ordinary, so i continued on mine. I kept looking behind me waiting for an Ambulance or something to speed by. The noise was so loud, but it was continuous and steady. It wasn't getting louder or quieter, it just rang one. Minutes went buy and it continued. As I came up to the front gate of Ewha i saw that there were a few guards there closing the front gates, only allowing one small section for people to walk in and out. The road into campus was also closed. That was odd. It was only maybe 2 in the afternoon. They don't close the ... read more

Saturday afternoon I met up with Jaime and her friend Laura. We were on a mission to go to the Army Base to get some food and I desparately needed some Protein Powder. Yes, I know I always make fun of chris for his shakes every morning and night, but I am seriously lacking protein. Meat and Cheese aren't served here like in the US and to buy it from the grocery store is so much. Just a jar of peanut butter is 5 or 6 bucks. The cheese and meat are ten and higher. No thanks. I was going to start drinking protein shakes. We walked around in circles for a while and finally found some barbed wire fence and knew that we had to be close. We got on base and I got registered ... read more

Tonight was a peaceful night. There was no running around like crazy people, trying to see a Palace, or find a place to eat that fit all 15 of us. There were only 5 of us. A nice small group, much easier to travel with than the large groups we usually go places with. Tonight, we went to Insa-dong. The shopping there was AMAZING. Im going back with 200,000kw and buying everything. It's pretty cheap(well everything is) and the stuff they have is so cute. I'm spending all my money there. Everyone's presents are coming from there haha We went into a side street and went to this cute little place for tea. There were live birds in cages in the wall. It was quite expensive for tea and snacks. 6,500 per person. The snacks and ... read more
