Thanks Sam, for proving that I'm not the only one who associates the Incas and Mayans with 'Mysterious Cities of Gold'! Clearly the realy thing will be more impressive, but the cartoon only costs £40 on DVD ;)
Lucky Thing You are so lucky. It sounds absolutely amazing, I am so envious. You've given us all the buzz to go and see it now. Glad you've got in with a nice group of people. Cannot wait to see your photos of Machu Pichu and make sure you're in one of them. We're forgetting what you look like. Love Nicola
Wow, the Inca trail sounds pretty amazing, well done for surviving! Must seem like a different world to back home.
Thanks for the birthday presents by the way, more sick books for me to work my way through, yey.
Take care, k x
Language Iwonder whether any race other than English speakers could become deeply involved in a discussion concerning brown sauce. It seems to me that sitting' as they were on the edge of a huge adventure they might have thought on eternity or at the very least the state of their walking boots. There's nowt so queer as folk! But aren't they lovely!!
City of Gold Sounds like Machu Picchu will take some beating!! You know how we link every historic landmark to a film or bizarre TV series - this one for me is linked to the rather strange cartoon 'The City of Gold' on TV at some unearthly hour when we were kids....Don't know if you remember it? The description of the real thing sounds much more impressive though. I want directions on how to run like a llama when I see you next. Lol Samantha xx
This was the bit I was most looking forward to reading about. Sounds twice as amazing as it had any right to be, and made all the better by your brilliant description. I can only imagine what the sunrise was like. Although the hugging game is a bit dubious ;) But anyway, well done for making it there. Look forward to the photos!
Glad you're loving it! I did wonder if it would be a bit of a culture shock in comparison to your previous exploits. It is now only 3 weeks until I can hand in my notice and CAN you believe that it is only 7 and a half wks until I join you? Have all flight details etc now, but more on that in an email very soon... Take Care lol Samantha xx
Mmmm brown sauce You should tell your English contingent that A1 sauce = HP brown sauce. They'll probably find that even more amusing :) Sounds like you're having a great time! As for the osterich, I'm sure the butcher's down the road can supply us with some (they seem to have all sorts of stuff like that), so you can have some properly cooked meat when you get back! Glad to hear that the altitude is being good to you, didn't hear the best of stories about such things. Keep having fun!
You are amazing! Sorry I've been pretty rubbish at communicating! Your blog is simply amazing - I love reading what you write (you always amazed me at work with your words!) and I am so, so envious of what you are doing - pretty incredible stuff - I reckon you should write a book when you get back! Miss you lots. Txx

You can have no idea how jealous I am! I know I should not be . You would be perfectly justified in saying "What's stopping you Grandma?" One day when you come home you will tell me how wonderful it is and maybe that will be as good as going myself. Looking forward to hearing about the lines. If popocatapetal does shine bring me a postcard please. In the mean time try to stay on the one side of the road.
Grandma Grandma has the itinerary and is studying the map to see where you are. It's providing a lot of interest and envy since she really wanted to go to Peru. Hope you are enjoying it alot. Love Mum
Just checking in - looked at my calendar today and couldn't believe you were due to fly out to S. America - doesn't time fly!! I will do a bit of research on N. American travel and report back asap.... Take care and keep in touch as often as poss. Lol Samantha xx
Hi Lizzie
I'm loving reading what you have been getting up to, what an adventure!! Sounds like you are having a great time, and i'm glad to hear you are doing ok.
Take care, love Lisa xx
I've been a bit too busy to post comments recently! I have had a quick look at your route though, I promise to follow it carefully. I have heard of Flight of the Concord, although was a bit non-plussed by the music itself. I believe they had a TV show about them on BBC3 for some reason! Well done for coping with the second-rate Dairy Milk. Having to live with such problems must be terrible for you :P
Nice surprise! I have to say that I wasn't expecting to hear anything from you for a month or say, so this was a nice surprise! I don't think the phone system is too great out there as my text messages since you got to Santiago have failed. Hopefully I'll get one through at some point :) The earthquake bit sounds quite shocking, I guess most of us have the good fortune never to have to see such things.
Good luck with getting across Peru!
Ihave just spent an hour comparing the size of Newzealand with That of S America and feel that it will be safest if you stick to the edges. At the very least take your compass with you when you set off. There is a line somewhere in A.A.Milne' s@story about the wild wood. Where Christopher Robin says , "What a place to lose my Rabbit, and S.A. rouses doubts in me which I never felt when you were in South Island!!!
Hi! Just been catching up on your last few blogs - you've taught me a lot about N Zealand! Sounds and looks great.
Am a little worried about your tendency to go on long walks alone without accurate maps and not returning before dark....good job you tell us after the event! I can't believe you walked 30km in one day, I have to sit down at just the thought of it.
Hope you enjoy S America as much as N Zealand, I look forward to your next blogs! K x
How about Neil Finn from Crowded House - they're from New Zealand aren't they? Even though everyone thinks they're Aussies - cracking band, even though all you ever hear is Weather With You. Although can't wait til you come back, gonna miss reading these - its like you're on the other side of the world or something ;) - Maybe you can get married out there and we can come and see what its like...
made my day Have just played catch up with your entries now I have submitted my email address.Think your comments re NZ need to be published in all travel brochures.
Glad u had a good time.I see u didn't do Whakarewarewa. So Tamaki tours continue to live up to their reputation which is good
Come back anytime.We are short of accountants.Enjoy S A
