glad you're happy Hey, Dr Daughter, the photos are simply beautiful. It's nice to see you expanding your network of friends and your global horizons at the same time. You are amazing. Love you and your love of life. btw, hi Jeremy!
another side to livingston hey - do you remember star wars - the original? you got the same shot on you blog that was in the movie (that is, minus the reble x-wing fighters taking off over the jungle canopy).
anyway... off to more intelligent commentary: one interesting thing about livingston is that there is a very strong tension between the original garifuna inhabitants and the latin arrivals. many of the hotels and restaurants (basically anything making tourist bucks) are owned by latin americans. not surprisingly this has led to a strong feeling of resentment by the original locals - and has led to riots and such in the past. under that happy carribean facade there's quite a bit of conflict and politics. i don't know if much of this has been resolved, but when i was there some years ago, i found out that the hotel that i was staying at had almost been burnt down a few weeks prior by a mob of angry and frustrated garifuna folk.
Fun details Thanks for sharing. We're planning an eight-day trip from the US to Guatemala, and I'm trying to get a sense for where and how to spend our time.
I appreciate your sensitivity to the culture and your thirst to pick up the language. Animo, tu puedes!

"For a long time it seemedhttp://www.travelblog.org/ to me that life was about to begin- real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life. This perspective has helped me to see there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way. So treasure every moment you have and remember that time waits for no one." -Souza... full info
