12 grapes and 3 reyes magos
I have never in my whole life been able to eat the 12 grapes following the bells... never, ever, ever!! I tried choosing the smallest, peeling them and taking the seeds out... still no good!!... this year, my grandmother managed to finish hers even before the bells were over!!!, now that's a skill, specially considering that she's got dentures! ;) Also I think we are one of the few families in Spain that don't give presents on the 6th of January to celebrate the coming of the 'Reyes Magos", as my sister chose to come to this world on that very same day, so she's the only one getting anything for her birthday (fairly enough) and so we used to get presents on Christmas day like... I think children now a days get presents on both days.

Now i feel better....
I nearly choked on those grapes and couldn't imagine how others can do it. Thanks for additional info on gift-giving.... Met new friends here and gifted the child on Christmas Day too. Then i was told about them waiting for Jan 6. I hope the mom didn't make her wait to open her present that long !

My Favorite Nativity Scene

Fabulous lights and nativity scenes!
How wonderful that they had the navibus to take you around to all those incredible light displays! Nativity scenes are also popular here (called nacimientos) but they include figures are widely varied sizes and so are pretty funny. Madrid's belens are really works of art. Thanks for the great holiday blog!

Belens
I like this tradition of setting up belens more than a Christmas tree. The Christmas lights were awesome. Imagine me freezing doing all those 3 navibus rides!

Madrid and the holidays
What a magnificent time of year to enjoy Madrid. I love rituals and decorations around the world. It sounds like you've done extensive research on all the city has to offer. I would love to see all those nativities and ride the bus. We may have to add Madrid to our holiday travel list!

Wow! It's always great to read about how other cultures celebrate Christmas. I've been following your adventures in Instagram, and it's great to read about the entire story :D

Hi Nina
It was an eye-opener for me as well. Like, I didn't give much attention to the 3 wise men, till now.

Foods of Spain
We've only been back from our trip to Vienna for a day, I'm jet lagged and hungry all day....and here is this food blog making me want to go find some extraordinary taste treats. I'm glad you are out making friends. You've been in Spain a lot the past couple of years. You'll have to start taking some Spanish lessons....maybe from your friend at the fish market. Looks like a wonderful place to explore and that you've captured its essence. Thanks again for sharing your adventure. Send our best to all.

I'm not sure...
But I think they mean the same thing, mercado is Spanish and palenque is the Native American term. It came to our language via Mexico. I just read it, forgot where. Wow, what a way to experience spain - food tripping! Kakaguom, hahaha! Good to see you po blogging again. :)

Thanks

Lili this blog should have come with a 'will make you hungry' warning! Loved reading it, and loved the photos. Mercado de San Anton sounds exactly like my kind of place :)

No question that our Butanding is the best animal encounter in Asia, not just by Time Magazine but from the chronicles from Mam Lily and the thousands that visited our town. We would like to thank Mam Lily for doing this blog. A big boost for our promotion in the web. Even for us locals, we are fascinated every time we swim with our Giants. We have difficulty last year. The sightings are poor. So far today, the new administration put in place several restrictions not to scare our Butanding. Very hard for us to pinpoint the cause of its decline.. So far today we are optimistic, the sightings are pretty good compared last year. 70 to 80% of chance to see the Sharks. Again i would like to thank Lily for this review. For more info about our sightings and everything here in town.. mail me at indonsol@yahoo.com ring me 63-908-273-5747

Those whalesharks will be back in droves!
My experience there, especially that time with my grandchildren, is simply awesome. Best to have the adventures "regulated" to make it more "responsible tourism". I am praying for you all. Thanks for taking care of those seapets!

Best bday celeb!
Thanks, Tara. It was wonderful to spend and celebrate my 60th with my family and best friend's family too. We could have been more, actually, if only my other friend was able to free herself for this celebration.

Thinking of all those wonderful people in the Philippines
We're all so saddened by the recent news of devastation in the islands and our thoughts are with you. Your wondeful pictures tell another story. David

ThAnks
Went to the MassKara Festival a week before the typhoon hit the islands in central Philippines. Oh, I couldn't even bear to watch the news. Such tragedy. And so soon after an earthquake of 7.2 which left many of our heritage churches in rubbles. Thank you for your thoughts, your concern. Pray with me for my country and countrymen.

So much colour and movement!
Love the sound of this festival Lili. Lots of fantastic photos, and I love the 'behind the scenes - unmasked' photos.
