Malawi GLOW Thank you for sharing! My niece is in the Peace Corp and just completed 2010 Malawii GlOW program (80 girls), I'm interested in hearing more about the program so I'm glad I found your site!
Nyika Border Amazing:-) I was brought up in Nchenachena but have never been to this plateau. I took it for granted as I got attracted to experience life in Europe: Munich, Paris, London, Oslo, Copenhagen.
Such a brave, brash gal! Always enjoy your posts! Brave is great. Brash is needed to survive down there, evidently! If they only knew how you used to "squeal like a girl" over everything. Good job on scoping out cheaper boats! SKYPE!!!! SKYPE!!!! SKYPE!!!!
LIONS and TIGERS and BEARS! OH MY! With two pigs cooking on the bricks and your camping outside, HOW COULD YOU EVER SLEEP. Now, I'm sure you're going to tell me that the fire keeps the LIONS away. However, at that point, I would not be concerned about the little piggies being stolen from the flames. I would be worried about the "tidy little snack" all wrapped up in a tent and ready to go!
Sounds like F.A.S.T. food to me!
Hi Kristen, don't worry; Joann had a frog in her toilet for a long time as well and she flushed it over and over...... The frog survived!!!
Nice to read your story again and glad to hear you are still enjoying yourself although there are no students....!! Say hello to everyone in Fatima!! Love, Elly
Hi Kristen
Very nice to read your weblog!!! And to see the pictures of course.
I am very honoured to see that I have my own walk now in Malawi!!!
You have done a great job with the graduation! Greet all the tutors and VSO's for me please,
Love, Elly
Haha, I was totally expecting something similar. I think EVERY other dentist's office WOULD have that sort of set up...of course, you have to remind them about the disinfectant! haha.
MY BRAVE GAL!!! To the dentist? The dentist chair where I travelled (but did not use) was a lawn chair. The disinfectants were in mason jars. Hmmmm....Maybe just bootlegging in disguise.
Jens' Aunt Kristen, I feel like I know you, Thank-you so much for informative blog on your Christmas Vacation. We miss Jen so much and are so happy to see pictures of her having fun with her new life-long friends. Peace to all, "Nubbs" (ask Jen)
Zuze I am soooo sorry to hear about Zuze. What a precious little friend you have had. I hope Zuze gets tired of his adventures. Probably lookin' for a girlfriend. You know how those young guys are!
I think you need to start working on a children's book about Zuze...and the bugs....and the chickens, etc.
Need some good (no, great) illustrations in the colors and sights of Malawi.
By the way, I couldn't see any knitting needles. I just saw one, which sounds like crochet. You need to let me know! I crocheted a beautiful alpaca scarf (think sooooft), which Patrick took back with him to college. But, he thinks it's too long. So, I'm off to crochet another one. By then, it will be spring. Translated: neither of us got to wear the scarf during the cold season.
I got skype fixed up. I haven't used it. Your dad sent me the numbers to call you. Let me know the BEST TIME TO CALL. Please tell me in U.S. times!
TALK TO YOU SOON!

Hi Kristen, my name is Kathy, I'm Jens Aunt. I loved reading your blog and even caught a picture or two of Jen. Keep up thr good work and give Jen a hug from me.
I sent you a private email.... Let me know when you get your "private email." I always try to comment on your blogs, but I don't know if you get them.
LOVE YOU!
Nice! That's a nice place! I found my new dream house :) I'm gonna see if I can send you those stupid Red vs Blue CDs I said I would send soon. Maybe a few pictures of whats been going on back here! Keep sending more pictures! -Altamira
Hey! Yeah, it has definitely been an adventure! They actually expect me to teach in the next few weeks, which at first was intimidating, but now that I have been touring the healthcare facilities here I am positive I can do it (which is not a good thing). I wish there were more resources! I was hoping to get onto my UNCC account and pick out some research articles out of the library but I think my account is expired. Do you know any organizations I can get resources through? How do you apply for that Sigma Theta group that we had at UNCC? The textbooks here are out of date and I would love to get more accurate information, especially about the diseases like HIV/AIDs, meningitis, TB and Malaria.
I hope school is going well!
Thanks, Kristen Hosey
hello Dear Kristen,
Your adventure sounds very exciting. Do you live alone??
Did you get your bike fixed?? Will is taking his 2nd degree black belt in Oct.
Hope all is well.
If you need anything let me know.
Love Stephanie
WOW! Nice house, it is bigger than my apt. You should get a gun to kill the aliens in your home or a Jack Russel, it would be a better pet than a cat (ever could) and would kill everything that moves for you. It may even keep the kids from knocking down your fence.
Keep practicing your patterns, I plan to test w/you for 3rd Dan when you get back!
miss you - mike and kris.
Address? So, where are you? Do you have a new address? I have a letter that's been sitting here for almost two weeks because I don't want the thing sitting in the wrong post office somewhere.
It looks and sounds like you're having a great time. I'm still trying to call you!
