Super late, so this will be very brief. So glad to have Alex here! She arrived in Camden a little past 1100. After a full English breakfast (of course), we walked through Camden market, looking at all the cool stalls and interesting people. Alex then took me to the Hammersmith Road area of West Kensington and showed me her flats and her favorite pub, where we had a quick drink. Next stop was Wimbledon. Beautiful town - great shops, stately homes, and, of course, Wimbledon Tennis Club! Just amazing. Had to stop briefly at Westminster. Wouldn't be a trip to London without it. At some point, Alex found out Chelsie and Khloe, her cousins/my nieces, were in London too. After dinner in Camden, we met them at an Oxford Circus pub. Hence, the late hour. So ... read more

Official greetings from London! Happy to be here, but such a jangled day - tired, lonesome, and generally discombobulated from all the travel in the past 24 hours. Not really complaining, and a good night's sleep and meeting up with Alex Saturday set all right. Spent the morning in Kensington Gardens (western part of Hyde Park, adjacent to Kensington Palace). Weather was perfect: about 65, mostly cloudy but enough sun to keep it from being gloomy. Everything was lush and beautiful. Went to Kensington Palace for the first time...or, I should say the back of the palace. The royals still use it, so the front was barricaded, security guards with bullet-proof vests were patrolling, and photos were prohibited. Certainly understand why. Early afternoon was spent milling Kensington High Street. Beautiful homes, beautiful cars, beautiful people everywhere. ... read more

To finish travel day stuff... The flight from Raleigh-Durham was long but uneventful. Sat next to an AI engineer from Lenovo, and we discussed how AI can be a miracle and a curse for humanity - ultimately we agreed that we will be okay as long as we keep in person connections. We also agreed that these are becoming less and less common already and that the outlook is not good. Before long, Ambien overcame the stimulating conversation, and I slept off and on til landing at 0630 local time. The line at customs took 40 minutes for a 1 minute conversation with border patrol. A very kind Heathrow engineer (in charge of managing winter weather) showed me a quicker path to the underground. Would probably still be walking to it right now without his help. ... read more

Have a few minutes before boarding my final flight to London. Tulsa to Dallas to Raleigh-Durham. Weird to be back in this airport, but so glad to have stopped here. My 4 hour layover allowed me to have lunch with my good friend and colleague Sabrina. It was like we saw each other yesterday as we caught up on work and family. Makes me realize how much I miss her! Tomorrow is her last day with her current employer; starts a new gig with a rapidly growing biotech firm. She will be amazing, as always. Congrats, Sabrina! Next entry when I get to London!... read more

I am leaving Thursday to join Alex in London. Super excited to return to Europe...and most excited to see Alex! She's been in the UK since May 14 for the University of Oklahoma's College of Journalism & Mass Communication's study abroad program. Her class has visited BBC, CNN, Al-Jazeera, and a number of other media sites in London, Oxford, Cardiff, Bristol, and Bath. So I leave Thursday 05/31 at 0700 - Tulsa to Dallas to Raleigh-Durham airport. During the layover I get to see my good friend and former workmate Sabrina! Very excited about that! From Raleigh-Durham, it's off to London - leaving 1755, arriving 06/01 0630 local time. Alex will join me on 06/02 after her class ends. We will hang out in London for a couple of days, then Amsterdam 06/04-07 and Brussels 06/07-06/09. ... read more

It is good to be home! Unfortunately, our last night in London ended on a negative note. The fabulous fish and chips gave me food poisoning, and I spent most of Wednesday night/Thursday morning sick. (Thankfully, Andrew was fine.) Because I did not want to risk eating, I was pretty weak, and getting to and through Heathrow was challenging; checked into my flight 8 minutes before check-in closed and arrived at the gate mid-boarding. My plan was to stay awake to get back on Tulsa time, but I ended up sleeping off and on. Customs and immigration in Dallas took forever, and I barely made my connection to Tulsa -- but I did make it and got home at 2000. It was so great to see Whitney, Alex, and John! Almost as nice was taking a ... read more

Andrew and I arrived in London from Liverpool about 1600. We took another train then a long bus ride to arrive at our hotel -- the Eurotraveller Premier. We are spending our last day in London in Harrow, a residential area in northwest London, not far from Wembly Stadium. Our room is really nice and comfortable. Tonight, we have taken it easy. Dinner was at the White Horse, a really nice pub down the street with the best fish and chips so far. We walked the neightborhood and picked up breakfast at the grocery around the corner. We are watching Women's World Cup, England - Columbia, and packing up. I fly out of Heathrow at 1225 tomorrow. After I leave, Andrew will be off to his next adventure. During the two weeks before his class at ... read more

While we have a little time on the train from Liverpool to London, am writing an update on our adventures from yesterday. On Tuesday, we left London Shepherds Bush for Euston Station about 0830. I note this because rush hour on the tube is an adventure all by itself: an incredible mass of humanity pressing ahead full speed on escalators and stairs, then squeezing a truly amazing number of people into the subway cars. We were glad to reach our train, where we had room to breathe. The ride from London, a little over two hours, was relaxing. Saw a lot of the English countryside, with large green fields, tree groves, pastures full of cows, and cottages, many of which were separated by hedge rows. We arrived about 1220. Liverpool is a bustling port city, and ... read more
