Great blog... despite the typical Irish weather it sounds like you had a memorable visit. Countries with rain seem to have the best pubs and beer/ale/stout...and green. Here is Colorado...remember that place...we've had the wettest May in history so we are also green.
Heads, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes Your Mom told me once about you teaching your kids using the song Heads, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes. So I saw this on Jimmy Fallon last night and immediately thought of you! The whole thing is pretty funny...and probably funnier for you because you probably know who more of the singers are!...but the part I'm thinking of is at about 35 seconds. Enjoy! http://www.entertainmentwise.com/news/156762/Watch-Adam-Levine-And-Jimmy-Fallon-Perform-Old-MacDonald-Had-A-Farm-As-Iggy-Azalea
Also, I told Haley (can you believe she is a senior?) and her friend Montana about your program. I would love to see them do something like that. I suggested that they follow your blog. If they are interested, I was hoping I could put you in touch with them by email or something. Take care!
Thanks for featuring Portugal! Portugal has been a hidden gem but it's starting to get noticed by virtue of multiple awards that start to ad up in the last couple years. All these awards are a testament to the quality of the attractions in Portugal. For your readers visiting Portugal, I recommend using services like www.WiserGo.com which let's you design several travel packages with Portuguese agents, select your favorite, they will book everything and provide customer support while you're in Portugal. Since they are local agents, they know the ins-and-outs of everything and you get to experience the country as a local!
I hope you post your pictures on these blogs... as they provide the visual complement to the written. It sounds like you are having the time of your life!
I can understand needing to post like this during your trip... I wasn't able to keep up with blogs of my South America trip until I got home. But if you are going to be on the road for two months I hope you are keeping a good journal to help you remember what happened! When I did my 3 week Eurail trip in 1968 I recorded my memories, and 40 years later when writing my blogs I found the tape and almost transcribed it. Anyway, have fun...it sounds like you are.
Have a great trip! I remember my first Eurailpass trip just after graduating from high school in 1968...using Frommer's Europe on $5/day...I only spent $260 in 21 days. Things have changed! I strongly recommend that you post pictures as you go along...makes the blogs come alive...and as with your Ecuador blogs, sometimes it's just hard to come back to add them.
Dubrovnik Hey Kate! I love reading your entries and your travels throughout Europe. I have been to Dubrovnik it is awesome!! When we were there the water was SO BLUE and so TURQOUISE it was amazing! My family and I hiked the wall around the city and like you, I took a million pictures they are somewhere in my stuff of crap all over the place. ON a CD somewhere. But yes i agree Dubrovnik was amazing!
bratislava we toured this town in september and noted the same things you did - water damage and some general wreckage....sounded like fun, though. miss you and sending love, sheil

SUN I just returned from a visit to NYC where it stopped raining as we arrived and didn't rain again, plus it was sunny all day Saturday. FTW. I don't think I came off so well in this blog entry; sleeping in and bringing bad weather. You are so right about the food and wine and cheese, I still think about it.
What I love about your blog 1. Can't decide which picture I love more, the one with the Denmark friends or the one with the big beers. Have you seen Beerfest? Was it just like that?
2. It is so educational AND practical. The four steps before going to a foreign country (step 4 research the nightlife) will carry me through all my future foreign jaunts.
3. The number and variety of meats mentioned. I keep thinking, are we SURE this is Amy's daughter!
Keep having an amazing time...and keep posting!

Continental habits Welcome to Europe. It might not be relevant to your case here, but generally FYI.
In traditional continental European service culture, waiters are not really supposed to offer you anything but you need to address them yourself (like people do not talk to a king but wait until king talks to them...). You should never be offered a bill by waiter, that is considered really insulting and bad (\"american\" :-)) service. You are supposed to be able to sit in restaurant for however long you want (i have been sitting 5-6 hours just having one cup of coffee...) without getting feeling that the waiter wants you to leave. Restaurants are traditionally extensions of your living room, not \"profit-only\" places where service personal is trained to get maximum out of clients in as short time as possible... :-)
So what to you might seem cold and inattentive attitude to you in Hungary, Italy, Spain, France etc is considered good service here. Of course, bad service is bad service here as well.
My name is Kate, I'm 26 years old, and I graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder in fall of 2012. I have my teaching license through Colorado, and I spent 2 years in Hungary teaching grades 1-4. I spent all of my time off traveling around Europe.
I traveled for a year after high school as well, which is what all of my really old are from. Feel free to read and catch up! This blog is my primary way of staying in touch with people while I am away, but anyone is free (and encouraged) to read it.
I spent the summer of 2015 working at home to fund a trip around Southeast Asia, w... full info
