Happy New Year from Edinburgh, Scotland It’s been a while since I put pen to paper or should that be fingers to the keyboard so grab a beer and sit back for a read. When I last wrote we were in Alice waiting for Garry and Kaylee to arrive for the Masters Games. We had a great week together with them playing golf and touring around Alice to check out some of Kaylee’s old haunts from her youth. The Darts Comp was held in the Golf Clubrooms so we were privileged to witness some fine looking athletes in their prime. On the second day of the singles I managed a Bronze Medal in the B Grade and then on the third day Caroline scored a Silver Medal in the B Grade so a successful first Masters ... read more

Geo: -23.7004, 133.881Hello from Alice SpringsWell here we are back in the Alice so we have officially done a lap of the western half of Australia. We left Broome on 5th Aug and travelled to Derby (222Km) and stayed at the Kimberley Entrance Caravan Park where we had the largest site since leaving home, could have parked two of us on it.Visited the Prison Boab Tree which is reputed as being used to house aboriginal prisoners just outside of Derby. Visited an Art and Culture centre and the local Art Galleries to check out the paintings and Boab Carvings.Saturday night we attended the Mud Crab Races held at the fishing club where you could purchase and name your own mud crab. The announcer was hilarious picking on everyone for the name they had given their crab and ... read more

Geo: -17.3048, 123.632Hello from DerbyThe rain finally cleared up for the last few days we were in Coral Bay which gave us a chance to do a few walks along the beach and some snorkelling in the bay. I also fitted the landing leg to the van only to find that the higher ratio of the new legs meant that the motor and gearbox could not cope with the extra load and caused the clutch to slip. Another call to the supplier and it was decided the best fix was a completely different set up with individual motors and gearbox on the top of each leg but of course this comes at an extra cost of $500 so a call KTA Insurance surprised us again when they agreed to cover the cost. The new legs were ... read more

Geo: -23.1428, 113.771Hello from Coral Bay After our stay at Wooramel we moved on to Carnarvon(110Km) and stayed in the Wintersun Caravan Park. Carnarvon is known as thefruit and vegetable bowl of the north, its winter climate is perfect forgrowing all kinds of fruit and vegetables and supplies 70% of Perth's needsduring winter. A drive along north or south river roads gives you access to anumber of farmers shops where you can buy fresh in season produce at goodprices. This river is also dry and only flows 2 to 3 times a year whichrestocks the aquifers below the surface from which the farmers pump their water. From the information centre we walked across the footbridge and through to the1 mile jetty, out to the end of the jetty and back a journey of approx. 9Km.The jetty is ... read more

Geo: -25.7108, 114.289Hello from WooramelYou are probably thinking where the hell is Wooramel more about this peaceful place later. In the last few weeks in Perth we played golf at Araluen which is in the hills south east of the city, a very hilly course with some spectacular views. The signature hole being a par 3 of 160 metres with the tee block about 70 metres above the green. Toured the Perth Mint with its many examples of gold nuggets and coins along with a huge 1 tonne coin with a denomination value of 1 million dollars measuring 80cm in diameter and 12 cm thick, then caught the ferry across to South Perth for lunch at the Windsor. Attended the South Perth Fiesta with Karen and Lin. Played golf at Secret Harbour which is a challenging links ... read more

Geo: -31.8626, 115.791Hello from Perth Here we are at Karrinyup Waters Resort in the suburbs of Perth well ahead of the 19th March deadline we set so long ago. The last blog was from Kalgoorlie when we had just arrived a few days before Xmas.We enjoyed a very relaxing and informal Xmas day with Brian at our van.Our van looked small parked next to our neighbours 44ft 5th wheeler. As most of you would know Kalgoorlie is famous for itsGold deposits found in the late 1800s and still being mined today, the townthat Gold built. Gold was first found just down the road at Coolgardie but thegolden mile at Kalgoorlie is the largest single deposit of gold found in theworld. Geo: -30.7477, 121.472Hello from KalgoorlieFirstly I must thank everyone for their feedback on the blog it is satisfying to know that you are reading it and possibly enjoying it, but some of the feedback makes me think that I should have called it 'The Princess and I'.The last two days at Yulara produced some spectacular views, firstly a storm over the Rock at sunset on the 30th and then the Helicopter ride over Lake Amadeus, The Olgas and Ayers Rock on the 31stThe lightning storm passed behind the rock creating a continuous light show for about an hour including a rainbow over the rock as the sun set. Lake Amadeus changes colour dependant on how wet or dry it is, the storm the night before meant we saw it with more patches of darker colours than ... read more

Geo: -25.3211, 130.987Hello again we are currently at Yulara, Ayers Rock orUluru which ever you desire to call it in the name of political correctness. I refer to it as the Rock.We travelled from Camooweal to the Barkly HomesteadRoadhouse and spent one night there before heading to Tennant Creek whichhasn't changed since I was there close to 30 years ago.The only thing Tennant had going for it was the oldTelegraph Station and also the annual Camp Draft and Rodeo was on a few daysafter we arrived so we booked an extra 2 days so we could attend the Rodeo andbe sitting still for the AFL Grand Final. Rode our bikes around town a fewtimes and did the self-guided walk. Tennant was the site of one of the OverlandTelegraph Repeater Stations and Gold was discovered in the ... read more

Geo: -19.9218, 138.119Here we are sitting by Lake Francis in Camooweal soakingup the tranquillity but we didn't get here without some issues, it appearsissues are a common thing for many travellers some have more than others. We left Charters Towers and headed for Hughenden andarrived safely without any issues. The RV camp is a massive $6 per night in thedirt carpark alongside the showgrounds, oval and alongside the very dry FlindersRiver, one of the locals claims he hadn't seen it flow in about 3 years.Porcupine Gorge was 73kms out and well worth the drive, the tourist brochuredescribes it as a mini Grand Canyon. Spectacular rock formations carved out bythe Flinders River (when it flows). It was a 1.2km walk down into the gorgewhere we found a nice little swimming hole for a dip, the water was freezing ... read more

Hi Everyone Welcome to our Blog After many years of dreaming about this change of lifestyle we are finally living the dream. We will attempt to keep it up to date with where we are and where we are heading next along with some of the things we see or experience along the way. We left Brisbane on 30th July and travelled to Bowen stopping over night at Gin Gin and Flaggy Rock. We spent 4 weeks at Bowen in the Queens Beach Tourist Village which is in excellent condition with friendly owners and excellent facilities. Bowen has plenty to offer with a 9 hole Golf Course alongside the beach, fishing, snorkelling, Lawn Bowls, walking trails and a historical Cinema. The caravan park was full when we arrived with 90% Victorians, it is a popular spot ... read more
