Mr Dodo’s ( our internet friend) driver Umar took us from the Makasar Airport. Spent the night at Dodo’s homestay. Dodo arrenged us a good dinner at Lae Lae Sea Food Rest. Umar offered us a trip to Ampana four days by his mini van at an acceptable price. The next day we took a city tour of Makasar. The same day we headed to Tana Toraja. On arrival we stayed at Wisma Maria Hotel ( 10 US$ incl. Brkfst) The following day he guided us for the interests of Toraja. We were lucky to visit a funeral ceremony which was from a lower class. According to Toraja ancestry believes people continue on living after death. They don’t pronounce the word death . They say for the death he/she is sick. And they keep the death ... read more

Asia » Burma » Yangon Region » Yangon February 28th 2012

An old colonial city. You feel safe even at dark. Everybody tries to help you. The most impressive action is the visit to Shwedagon Pagoda. It is a praying complex. It gives a feeling like Kabe for Muslims, Varanasi for Hindus, Vatican for Christians . As if there exist a vast religious energy at the atmosphere. We visited top restaurants, Monsoon, 50th Street , Bilar Briyani and had our last dinner at 19th Street , Chinese area, with BBQ and drinks. In Myanmar because of the toursim exploited, especially hotel prices are increased more than twice than the books write. The other interesting is the traffic is on the right and the steering wheels are also on the right. We are going to KL by Air Asia at 17.00 today. Tomorrow we will fly to Makasar ... read more

Asia » Burma » Mandalay Region » Inle Lake February 24th 2012

Hi Everybody, On the way to Inle Lake,we visited Meiktila and stayed a night in Thazi. The train journey from Thazi to Inle Lake junction was sceneric, altough it took 10 hours, where buses make the same way in 3-4 hours. We took a lake trip by boat ( full day) with three other friends. Pictures may explain the culture beter than words. They fish on the lake, plant at floating paths and travel by boats from house to house . Some houses on the lake are shops, showrooms or Pagodas. A new thing we learn is; They are getting linen-like string from the stemp of the lotus flower and after strenghtinig the string, they weave it. A piece of cloth from lotus costs almost five times the silk. It looks like soft linen and they say ... read more

Asia » Burma » Mandalay Region » Bagan February 19th 2012

The main objective of our visit to Myanmar is BAGAN. Of more than 4000 Pagodas, now remaining about 2000. The people are lovely, you always feel safe under any condition. Tourists are not allowed to drive motorbike and no motorbike driver takes tourist. You either take public bus ( there is none after 5PM) or bicycle or the best for us horse carts. We enjoyed the pagoda area two days and had the sun set at a pagoda near the river Ayayewaddy. The second day the sun set at the pagoda side. We also visitedMyin Ka Par village near Bagan to lacquerware works. The last day we went to Golf Resort and spent the whole day there swimming in their pool. Tomorrow we are leaving this impressive town for Thazi via Meiktila. The next day we ... read more

Hello everybody. We had an easy and comfortable trip from Iquitos to Leticia by speed boat in about ten hours. As we reached to Santa Rosa Island we had very heavy rain for a long time. Santa Rosa Island is the border of Peru to Leticia of Colombia and Tabatinga of Brasil. Having our passports stamped we sailed to Leticia in 20 minutes by a public boat, 6 Soles each. Leticia and Tabatinga although belongs to two different countries they are one town and you can pass from one another without any control. You can use both countries Money in both regions. The most interesting thing in Leticia is Park . At sundown thousands of birds gether together to sing. As it becomes dark the bird sounds ends. We had two days in Leticia and the ... read more

South America » Peru » Lima » Lima » Miraflores March 31st 2011

We had two beutiful days in Lima. We stayed again at Che Lagarto Hostel at Miraflores. The first day at evening we took a sightseeing tour of the city and visited Park of Fountains. The second day we went to Historic Center and Larcomar (entertainment center) on the coast. We had delicious sea food at Punto Azul rest. at Miraflores and just before leaving Lima we had a delicious but expensive lunch at a luxury rest., Malabar at San Isıdro. Although Wikitravel recommends Malabar Rest., it is luxury and expensive and is not for budgets. On 28th March we flew to Iquitos. We stayed at a beautiful hotel. We spent three days touring all the interests of the city. Iquitos is a jungle city where one can reach only by air or river. It is in ... read more

South America » Peru » Cusco » Machu Picchu March 27th 2011

A very impressive country, Peru. Most of the things changed as we left Bolivia to Peru. You feel that there is an authority and feel safe. Puno, a beautiful town on the coast of Titicaca Lake is famous with the floating reed islands- Uros Islands. We visited the area on an afternoon tour, different but quite primitive way of living. They have no electricity. With midnight bus we made Cuzco in seven hours. Stayed at Che Lagato again. We spent three nights there, a lovely city. They have preserved their colonial housing to the most extend. This World Herritage City makes the visitors happy by it’s atmosphere . The altitude problem remains the same. From Cusco we went to Sacred Valley where our altitude problem diminished ( 1000 mt less). We visited Pisaq, Urubamba , Ollantaytambo ... read more
