OK, we have loads to write up at this point, so it might take a couple of sessions to get it done, but we'll do as much as we can before we get booted out of this library at closing time. Thursday 29th May - Charlotte's Birthday Thursday morning saw us waking pretty early, I had quite a bit planned and Charlotte was just generally excited. As she was showering, I threw my clothes on and set off down to the supermarket for some supplies for the day. I was dressed for the heat but was greeted by a miserable rainy day and as a result, spent the entire trip to and from the supermarket seconds away from killing myself, my flip flops getting no traction whatsoever on the increasingly wet kerb tiles. I checked our ... read more

Saturday 24th May to Wednesday 28th May - Brisbane The flight over didn't take that long, the plane was a big double decked jumbo with full in seat entertainment and a pretty nice meal, so it went by at a nice pace. Getting through customs was decidedly more long winded. On the flight over we'd been given customs declaration cards, most of which was about the animal and plant products you may or may not have with you. We didn't want to risk a massive fine so we just declared that we had everything; we've been doing that much stuff we've picked up allsorts of crap along the way. Passport control was quick but then it was over to the X-Ray machines and the bag search. They decided that as we weren't sure what we had ... read more

Saturday 17th May - Napier, Wairoa Well as we finished our last entry, we start this one. Having made our way to Napier we thought it about time to get a blog entry done, as we were doing loads of stuff and it was pretty hard to keep track of. We arrived there before any of the internet cafes had opened so we had a walk around the town to pass the time. Napier seems to be a nice place, lovely buildings and very clean. We stopped for a picture by the church, the fountain outside of which was gushing bright pink water. We couldn't decide if this was intentional or wether someone had done it for a laugh, but if it was intentional it would be a genius publicity ploy by the church, as person ... read more

Hi everyone, So we're still in New Zealand, having now covered almost 2800kms we're finally making progress! I'll start by first clearing something up. It seems that the last entry implied we were just sitting about getting smashed all the time... This isn't the case at all, the thing is that most nights we just sit in the van, play cards, read books and are asleep before 9 as it's dark and there's not much to do. The only time we have anything interesting to report of an evening is when we've actually gone out and done something, which when it's cold and dark and you can't afford a meal out, the pub is pretty much the only option. Since we've been away we've only actually been up past 9.30 about 5 times, it's just that ... read more

Over to NZ Monday becomes Tuesday Our flight from the Cook islands was at 7am, so we had to be up pretty early. Luckily we'd managed to get hold of the airport transfer company the night before after days of trying and had at last arranged a pick up for 5am. We were packed and sat outside at 5am, providing a mosquito buffet for quite a while and there was no sign of our pick up. We thought that as we'd booked it late on a Sunday afternoon that they may have messed up the booking, but just after we went inside to ring them at about 5.25, they turned up, much to our relief. On arrival at the airport, we were all decorated again, this time with big long shell necklaces, as we left the ... read more

Cook Islands - Part 2 So it's been a while since our last entry. It's only really been a few days but theres been so much going on it feels like forever! After we'd finished typing the entry on Thursday morning, Charlotte threw in the towel and went back to bed at about 8.30am, so I headed off down to the beach to take some pictures. It was a nice morning and the sea was getting much bigger, slamming some really big waves out on the reef. I got bored pretty soon though and went inside and read the Lonely Planet guidebook for a bit. While I was sitting around, a guy turned up to visit Mama Turi. I greeted him as you do, asked if he was OK, to which he replied 'I live in ... read more

Hey, This is the first entry so it might get pretty long but here goes... It's 6am and I've been up a bit... still not quite kicked the jet lag i think Also I apologize for any crap spelling, this keyboard sucks and I'm sat in the dark trying not to wake anyone. Flights After a pretty boring trek to Heathrow and several McCrappy meals, we were making our way through the vast city sized airport that is Hathrow. Check in was amazingly efficicient, there's these Virgin atlantic computer box contraptions into which you just poke your passport. Seconds later yor whole flight schedule is on screen and you can check your seats and change them if you want. Then you hit go and it prints all your boarding cards. All you do then is hand ... read more
