Europe » Italy July 5th 2011

Ah! The dream of being in Venice! Well, I had to pinch myself to make sure I was actually in Venice and not daydreaming. Our bus, from Switzerland, made its way into Italy. On a bright Tuesday morning, we took a boat taxi to Venice. As we neared Venice, I could see Port of Venice, San Marco Caomanile and the city line on the river banks from a distance. My excitement grew as we neared the shores lined up by the gondolas. Getting out of the boat, our group walked towards St.Mark’s square( Piazza San Marco) passing the Bridge of Sighs. We passed the San Marco Caomanile, St.Mark’s Basilica and walked down straight to the Murano Glass museum. At the museum, there were exhibits made of glass with intricate designs and details. There was also a ... read more

From Brussels, we drove towards Rhine waterfall in Switzerland making a quick stop over at the Cuckoo clocks factory in the Black Forest region of Germany. It was a bright sunny day with a clear sky. The Rhine falls roared with glory from a distance. Like Maid of the Mist at Niagara Falls, there were boat services here too at Rhine falls that would take the tourists close to the water fall. There were platforms on both sides of the falls where the tourists could stand and enjoy the beauty of the waterfalls in close proximity. The tour manager bought the tickets and our group had to wait for a while before we got into the boat. The boat sailed towards the waterfall and as it neared the waterfall, I could feel the vapour rising from ... read more

Europe » Belgium » Brussels-Capital Region » Brussels July 1st 2011

Trip to Brussels was a short one. It was just a day trip but enough to remember the grandeur of Brussels. The first place we headed to was the Grand Place. The grandeur of the Grand palace was splendid. A city square in the centre of the city with the King’s House, Brussels Town Hall and other guild houses stood majestically around the central square. Small streets around led to the Grand Place and these streets were mainly for pedestrians. The streets were crowded with people walking in and out of Grand Place. The facades of some of the guild hoses are decorated in golden paint highlighting the floral designs , logos on the columns and top of the houses. We then walked down to Manneken Piss. It is a bronze sculpture of a small naked ... read more

Amsterdam is known for its beautiful canals and nightlife. Talk about cycling and Netherlands is the country that flashes across your eyes. A few friends at office and I booked a weekend trip to Amsterdam and Belgium through Start Tours ( a travel company providing guided tours) starting from London. From London, we reached Dover in a bus and from Dover to Calais (in France), we took a ferry across the English Channel. It is about an hour and a half ride on the ferry. On the bus at Calais, we drove first to Brussels, spent a day there and then arrived in Netherlands. That morning, we first visited Simon Hoeve cheese farm and clog factory in Katwoude. Gouda cheese is from Netherlands and the cheese farm we visited, had varieties of Gouda and other cheese. ... read more

My friends and I planned for a weekend away to Wales in April. On a bright morning , we drove to Colwyn Bay beach in Wales from Nottingham. The water at the beach was freezing as do most of the beaches in the UK. But the freezing water did not dampen our spirits. What if we couldn’t play in the water ; we played on the beach ! Haha ! We played ‘Dog and the bone’ game on the sands of Colwyn Bay beach in the cold gloomy weather. It was fun ! We did spend a lot of time on the beach. Later, we made our way to Conwy Castle. The castle stood on the banks of river Conwy. It had a lush green lawn on the boundary and a railway line ran along the ... read more

It was spring time in the UK and we had a 4 day long weekend off at office. My friends (also my colleagues at office) and I planned for a road trip to Scotland from Nottingham. I was very excited about the trip because it was ‘SCOTLAND’ !! The drive to Scotland was a very scenic one. Beautiful grasslands and scenic landscapes all along the way ! We stopped on the way for a short break. There was small bridge and a stream flowing beneath the bridge. On one side of the road were small hills covered in the green blanket of grass. The grass had a parrot green colour and it looked so lovely in the sun. And the sheep and lambs grazing on those grasslands made the picture perfect. We walked down the bridge ... read more

London needs no introduction. On a bright Saturday morning, my friends and I decided to visit London from Nottingham. London is approximately 130 miles from Nottingham. Tower Bridge is a great tourist attraction in London. We walked along the length of the bridge before spending some time on the sidewalk on one end of the bridge. It is a beautiful sight of the bridge standing majestically over river Thames. The tower bridge is a drawbridge meaning it opens into two to let big boats pass through . Unfortunately, we couldn’t get a glimpse of the tower bridge in operation. We then went to see Westminster Abbey and the Big Ben. London Eye was visible from across the road. The clock struck an hour and Big Ben chimed. It was amazing to see that the clock had ... read more

Chikmagalur in all its beauty !! I should say one should visit this place during the monsoons ... The light drizzling and a trek through the Bhadra jungle and Kemmangundi .. What an experience !!
