Guys, great castle pics. I am envious. I just got back from Anchorage AK yesterday, and guess what, no castles there. That is something I will have to remedy very soon. Anyway, statue of Anonymous is one of my favorite statue pics you have taken. It reminds me of that statue of death, my second favorite. Please let me know what history books he has written and if they have been translated into English for I would like to read them. Reminds me of "The Historian" Later.
Hey, Matt,
Keep the great photos coming. What does your apt. look like? The view from the window is lovely. Happy Thanksgiving to you there, and we all are looking forward to your return and the great stories.

nice! Sorry if this has been posted twice - I'm not sure if the first one did because the internet stopped working right when I hit "add comment."
I loved your pictures - especially the troubled writer one - you pulled that off pretty well, I must say.
Oh, and I liked your story about getting lost from Sandra. Scary!! But that's cool you just randomly ran into her.
Official Response Actually, I am kidding, I have no friends.
No im not kidding, her name is Alana, and shes not German, nor Austrian, she goes to the Institute with us, and she does not look like you that much... relaly... i guess youre both white and female. Also, im not that worried because Alia my RA and Alia are pronounced differently.
ALANA You're kidding, Matt, you met someone else named Alana? She even sort of looks like me. If you squint really hard. Is she German? Are you at all creeped out at how you went to Europe and met people named Alia and Alana?
I don't know if I have commented on it yet, but Austria seems to be one wierd place. Also, cellphone ridin dirty is wunderbar. I request the theme song to Lawerence of Arabia next, or better yet my hump.
Just wondering.... Did you get back to Vienna with a boar spear? Eric, did you really like this place better than the Louvre? I love to see you smiling - maybe next time without weapons. Love you.
mountains, water, & scenery Matt:
You have to hike the west side of Glacier this summer if possible...looks like Montana--no kidding!
Great photos. I am w/ you in spirit.

Germans in Austria? Your right, that is a little wierd for the Germans (in camo, no less) hanging out in uniform at the Austrian independence celebration. Not a very good undercover agent. I dig the neo classical style parliment building. Athena is a good choice, but I think Heaphistus would be a cooler statue.
Library besooth. I am so jealous. I have read of said library and am happy you got to see it. Your castle jaunt was also very impressive. Very fine pictures. Viva Umberto Eco!
Yes! more weapons and boars Thank you for adding more martial weapons. The tufts of hair around the tips of the boar spears are to absorb blood so that they do not make the shaft slippery. Very similar to Chinese pole weapons. Even the Bhudda punished evil. Nice castle pics too.
Eric, I'm there man. I have to say, that I totally sympathize with Eric. Without a map, a city is almost worthless. How frustrating! At least you found some good stuff. But how can you plan a thorough examination of the area without a current and precise map.
By the way, I'm almost done with the first season of Rome and I am hooked. You will have to check it out when you get back if you have not yet seen it.
More on Boars I simply have to say that the boar research is fascinating and must continue with all due haste. Also more on the spears and other martial weapons of the Germans. Did they plant the spear in ground under their foot to receive the oncoming boar, only raising the spear in the last seconds before contact, thus launching the boar over head in an unexpected lanced acrobatic manuever? I hope so.
Made of stone I like the melancholy of the whole place. It seems desserted, except for the cow and BRC dude. I wonder how long the stone monument will truly be the center of Austria, 100 years, 50. who knows.
A REUSABLE coffin?! That's INSANE! Whoa. Talk about "modern"... art... or something. You take some mighty fine pictures, by the way. Wachau sounds really cool. And Melk.
I also like that picture of you that Audrey took. Very nice. Make that your facebook picture, d00d.
Statues!! LoL I LOVE the statue picture of Eric.
I'm so glad you got all those pictures of Klosterneuberg - I forgot my camera when I went.
Anyway, I agree - very, very cool place. ;)
Continue to enjoy and explore Matt, We are so glad you are doing this blog. The pictures are great and the commentary is memorable. Hello to Eric from us.
Well, There's not much to know about me. I am a student of Classics and History in the USA, and I am taking a year to study in Europe with my friend, Eric. With any luck, he will post on here. With any luck, I will occasionally post on here. Ha!... full info
