On our last day in the Atacama desert we had the whole morning to do whatever we wanted to. I decided to go sand boarding with Lizzy, Sam, Sonni and Lindsay. I got up at 8 to eat breakfast and we had to be to the sand boarding place by 9. When we arrived at the place nobody was there and it looked closed but we were a little early. A guy that worked at the restaurant across the street knew the people so he called them to tell them we were waiting. A lady showed up pretty quickly. We paid for our little excursion and then a guy picked out boards for us. The van that was supposed to pick us up was having some trouble and running late. While we waited, I went across ... read more

We didn´t have much to do on day 5. I got up at 9 and ate breakfast with Christina and Catie. After breakfast Profe Triana had a little chat with us and told us that we had to change rooms since we were too loud the night before. We had to be out of our rooms so they could be cleaned and we also had to wait for our new rooms to be cleaned. While we waited I walked to a store with Catie and Jess B. I got an empanada , some doritos, and a popsicle. We returned to the hostel because we had class at 2. Our class was about the subjunctive tense. A random stray dog wandered into our class and decided to join us. Profe Triana tried to make the dog leave ... read more

Day 4 was an early one! We got a wake up call at 4 a.m. I yelled at Catie to answer it since it was by her bed. She was just going to ignore it. She answered it but then struggle to hang up the phone. It was entertaining. It was too early for hotel breakfast so I just ate a banana that I had. I had some Coca tea while we were waiting in the lobby for the bus so I wouldn´t get altitude sickness. I sat by Christina on the bus. It was a long, extremely bumpy, off-road ride. I slept for a while. It was hard to sleep for me because I was by the heater and it was cranked up. I was so warm! I think we arrived sometime between 7 and ... read more

Day 3 I got up at 7:15 to shower. At 8 I went to get breakfast in the main building of the hotel. They had a really good breakfast. I had a banana, yogurt, toast w/butter, ham, and cheese, and some omelet. There was also juice, tea, cereal and lot of types of bread, yogurt and fruit. Everyone was really happy with the hotel breakfast. A lot of people made ham sandwiches to eat later. The bus picked us up for the archeological tour at 8:30. Our schedule said 8 am but I think they moved it back since we were really crabby and tired the day before. We went to Tulor and Quitor. First we went to Tulor. Tulor was an ancient settlement. Now all you can see is the tops of what used to ... read more

We had to leave our hotel really early to make our flight to Calama. Our flight left at 7 a.m. so we needed to get to the airport early. We left the hotel around 5 a.m. I got up and made eggs for the myself and the girls in my room. Since we were leaving so early we had to miss the hotel breakfast. Since it was so early in morning there wasn´t any traffic so it didn´t take too long to get to the airport. We breezed through check in and security and soon were on our way to Calama. The Calama airport is really tiny. It is one of my favorites because they let you get off the plane and walk on the tarmac to the airport. Most other airports pack you onto a ... read more

I finally packed my bags and got to bed. I got up early to shower and eat breakfast. We had to be to the airport by 7:30 a.m. Jorge drove Jess A and I to the airport. I didn´t feel so bad about taking my big suitcase because I wasn´t the only one. My bag did weigh 19kg though, which is kind of heavy! I decided since I was bringing a big bag, I might as well take whatever I wanted to! I sat by Hayley and an aisle on the plane. We had an emergency exit seat again which was kind of nice. On the plane I had tea, orange juice and the snack pack they give you. My favorite part about flying with LAN is that you always get a snack, no matter how ... read more

South America October 13th 2009

Saturday was a pretty lazy day. Christina and I decided to go to the centro after lunch. The Nana left pasta for lunch. It was yummy but Jorge just heated it up in the microwave and it was still kind of cold so I had to heat it up again. After lunch I hurried up and took a shower because they were coming to paint the kitchen again. After I showered, I got ready to go and took a little nap. It was probably 4pm by the time Christina and I met in the centro. We went to the Mercado and shopped around a litte bit. It was kind of chilly out because it was windy and cloudy. I bought some new sunglasses for 2000 pesos because I needed some for the weekend. The ones I ... read more

The packers lost on Monday night. Sad but atleast in South America, I don´t have to hear about it all day! Tuesday I had class from 10 to 12. Class was nothing out of the ordinary. I still couldn´t print my essay since the building was still taken and I couldn´t get our printer at the house to work. Before class, I went to the library and tried to print but I had to go to the fourth floor and couldn´t because I don´t have a library card. I was planning on running after class but that didn´t happen. I got a lot of other stuff done though. After class I walked with Christina, Lucas and Jess A. to the centro. I got my picture taken so I could get a university library card. We needed ... read more

Friday I slept in since we don´t have class on Friday. I ate lunch with Jorge around 1. We had this casserole type thing. It was kind of like what is in empanadas but more in a pie form. Jorge put sugar on his which I thought was a little weird but I tried it and it wasn´t bad. After lunch I had to go meet Lizzy at the University so I could get my purse. Lizzy, Sonni, and Sam were going to the beach but I was meeting Christina to go explore Parque Ecuador. Christina wasn´t going to be there until later so I just hung out on campus and waited for her. I got a pop and walked around campus. I found a little store that I didn´t know was there, that sells UdeC ... read more

After the Buenos Aires trip there was lots of things to do and catch up on. Tuesday we had class with Professor Triana from 10 to 12. I got a ride to the University with Marcela. We arrived around 9 am. I needed to finish up my autobiography essay and print it so I had my computer with me. The students were still protesting and had taken the Arts and Humanities building so none of us could print our papers. We spent the class hour talking about our weekends and many other things. We got an assignment from our book. After class I went running with Trevor, Hayley and Catie. Trevor and I did some sprints. It was kind of fun. It was about 1:30 when we left campus. I decided to go try to pick ... read more
