Well the time is finally come for me to escape England for a few months before I join the corporate world (!!!???). I will keep you all up to date on my adventures (hopefully there will be many) on this page
MALAYSIA Arrived in Malaysia in a minibus from Thailand. It was certainly a slow way to cross the border as the driver decided to take the minibus into the garage for the tyres changing after we had been going for about 5 minutes. Obviously being Thailand he didn't explain this to anyone, not even the locals and left us locked in the bus for about an hour without being able to get out. You can imagine the mood I was in!? Eventually we made it to George Town which is the main town on the island of Penang. Penang - George Town Stayed in a lovely little hostel in George Town with the friendliest two managers you could wish for - Jimmy and Mr Low. They would do anything to help you and were always making ... read more
Thailand Ko Lanta Well after a surprisingly comfortable overnight bus from the lovely city of Bangkok(!?) to Krabi, I got on yet another bus taking me to the island of Ko Lanta. I decided to go to Ko Lanta after talking to a lovely thai man on the bus who recommended it. The hotel that he said was lovely but was slightly out of my price range so headed to a place called Lanta Riveria which was a bit more in my budget. The weather wasn't great when I arrived which was disappointing but I was keeping my fingers crossed for it to get better! Elephant Riding Booked myself on an elephant riding tour the next day which included a walk to a secluded water fall. My elephant was a 45 year old male and he ... read more
Vietnam Tour Ho Chi Minh City aka the Smogiest City on the Planet Most of the Cambodian group left the tour at this point and the remaining three of us joined a new group in Ho Chi Minh City. This city is just mad! I don't think it ever sleeps! I have never seen so many motorbikes in all my life! They will stop at nothing to get where they want to. They ignore traffic lights and treat the pavements as if they are there own. You have to keep your eyes and ears peeled as they come at you from all directions. Supposidly the technique when crossing the road is to go slowly and maintain eye contact with the on coming hundreds of bikes!! Much easier said than done! I prefer my technique of running, ... read more
Helen hits Camodia!! Arriving in Cambodia After meeting my new tour group and spending one night in Bangkok we headed off towards the boarder of Thailand to cross into Cambodia at Poipet. First impressions once we'd crossed the boarder - man alive its humid!! Waited around in Poipet for about half an hour before getting on a bus to Siem Reap along National Road Number 6. The main problem with this road is that is basically a mud lane for about 120k which makes it rather uncomfortable on the old bum!! Surprisingly I managed to nap! Mum has always said I could sleep on a clothes line! Ankgor Temples at Siem Reap One of the main attractions of Siem Reap is the amazing temples which we went to as a group for the day. As ... read more
