Money Hey love! Great to hear your making some really good impacts over there. It's interesting what happened with the money, and how you want to ensure the school/community is on side so they raise their own funds so it is THEIR school. I met a Kenyan woman recently, who goes to my Uni and works for the Govt in Nairobi, and we shared some interesting thoughts on fundraising in Kenya, and indeed Africa. How it is difficult for Kenyan/African people to see muzungus as more than just a source of money sometimes, and that they can in fact do fundraising. An idea we came up with was perhaps an organised sports day, where people pay a small amount to participate or to be a spectator. Perhaps a continual yearly or quarterly thing?? She expressed to me how when her young daughter had to fundraise for a school trip (as all students did), she was reluctant as she saw is as something degrading. Just thought you would like to hear that view, perhaps it is something you can work with on the ground. :) I'm loving reading your blogs. Keep it up!! x
Appreciative Hello Haley,
Your point is so true! We have so many creature comforts in America but yet and still the majority of us still want more at all times, no appreciating the basic needs of life such as food, clothing, and shelter. "You are doing yourself a dis-service, if you never see a 3rd World country with your own two eyes!"
Haley, I know you are completing missionary work that far too many of us are fearful of coming out of our comfort zone to complete. May you continue to be blessed for this and may you continue to serve in a way that many of us should be doing. I love you for what you are doing and can't wait until that day I can be over in Africa again with you, helping with the need!! Peace, serenity, and love!!
So wonderful to hear from you!!! :) Dear Haley,
We are so glad for you that you are back "home" :) It sounds lovely there. You are a special person with a brave heart. You are also a fantastic role model for our children and we are so blessed to have had you in our lives. Andy and Caroline still talk about you. "When will Haley come back to us?" hehe! Prayers for you and thanks for sharing your blog info, the whole Cannon Family
Mambo Vipi! Heaven sent Haley, it seems like you are living the good life! First off, Im sure we feel the same way about Mombasa--It is the most beautiful beach in the world! 40$ is kinda of pricey however I am certain it was a feast for your eyes! You had a chance to venture off and see the coast at its finest, I want to see your pictures when you return!
Chipati, chicken, and kale, with no ugali??? I can taste the sweet organic Kenyan food you are eating now, thanks for the imagery!! OMG I wish I were there with you, please continue to live it up and fufill your dreams by serving Kenya! You truly are heaven sent and inspirational to many! I promise I will one day soon see Kenya again, hopefully with you!
Can't wait to hear about the orphanages, schools, and your missionary work! May God continue to bless you and if you see, ICODEI, Daniel, Mama Joyce, Betty, or anyone I may know, please give them my blessings and my contact information!!
