This morning we ate breakfast, packed up our stuff, and headed to the pier to wait for the 10 o'clock ferry to Pakbahara. The boat came at 10:15 and when we arrived around 11 we went to find a place to take us to Penang, Malaysia. At Andrew Tour they were selling the tickets for 500 each so we went ahead and bought those because she told us the bus left at 11:30. We left at 13:00 in a tuk tuk that took us to the main town where we then boarded a full van that took us to Haytai. We arrived there at 15:15 and had only 15 minutes before the van to Penang came to pick us up so we searched for food and ended up buying rice and chicken and noodles and chicken ... read more

Today was worthless. We woke up around 8:30 and went to go rent a bike only to find there were none left. So we rented masks and snorkels and went for breakfast at the only place there is. After this we headed out to sea to find a place to snorkel and ended up walking down the length of our beach and then through the water to another hidden one. Before getting to the second beach we stopped and put our shoes and bag on top of some rocks and when we got back they were all over the place! After picking up all of our stuff we headed to the beach and found piles and piles of trash! There were sandals, cages, buoys, glass bottles, etc...you name it and it was there. We tried to ... read more

This morning at 7:30 we hopped in a van to get going. We were lucky and were first because it was the guy's company, so we chose the front seats in the back where there was more room. We went around picking everyone else up (there were 11 of us in total) and then at 8 were at the office of Krabi Morakod, the name of the company. There he told us we would wait for 10 minutes. What happened was that 10 minutes later, he tried to switch us to another van. We took out our bags and walked across the street to where the van was parked only to find that it was full of people and bags. So we went right back to our same van, reloaded our bags, and got back in. ... read more

Today we didn't do much besides buy our tickets to get to Krabi and relax on the beach. We have to get up early tomorrow (6 am pick up at a resort next to ours – the road to Leela is too treacherous for the taxis…) so we wanted to have an easy day. For dinner we went with Camila and Felipe to the town area and ate at one of the local places for much cheaper than the big restaurants. While we were eating another Chilean couple came in – random! A funny story from last night was that Camila and Felipe and the others got caught without writstbands and the guards or cops (we're not sure what their authority really was) came over so they started running away! Haha...well, one of them grabbed Felipe ... read more

We are really glad we are on Leela Beach because it's only a 10 minute walk from the craziness and the beach is much cleaner and nicer. The party beaches are just gross. Today we put up my hammock and enjoyed the beach. The water is a nice clear blue and there isn’t any moss on the bottom to worry about (though there is the occasional fish head…) and the water was a perfect temperature – cool but not too cold. We met a couple from Santiago, Camila and Felipe, and they have been travelling for a while around these parts and so we hung out with them for the day and into the night. At 10 pm a taxi (100 baht each) left from our place to go to the black moon party with a ... read more

Around 9:30 we were at the second dock waiting for our boat and saw the same rude lady from our bus going there! She works for the company…now we know she definitely didn't buy those two seats, they were given to her for working there! She tried to herd all the people waiting into this tiny area on the side and we decided not to follow her instructions because they were irrelevant. So we waited and the boat from the mainland came around 10 and we all boarded ad were off about twenty minutes later. This time the water wasn’t so rough so most people were fine and I think only one got sick. Two hours later we arrived at the port in Koh Pha Ngan and headed for a big office we saw bearing the ... read more

This morning we woke up and got ready for our trip out on the water! We were at Impian & Garden at 11:30, got our gear, and I went over hand signs and basic info with Kevin, my French dive instructor/buddy. We also went out to buy a sandwich (from ma street vendor, 60 baht) to take with us. At around 12:30 we headed to the pier and all the SCUBA boats were lined up waiting. To get to our boat we only had to pass through one other, but there was a steady stream of people flowing through for about 20 minutes. We were going to dive at Japanese Gardens but there was too much swell so we dove at Twins. We did two dives (the first for 42 minutes, the second for 43) and ... read more

Boy are we glad to be getting out of Bangkok. First order of business was checking out at 11:30. After that we left our bags at the travel office before heading to the hair salon. We had a few hours until 15:30 when the palace was supposed to open, so I got a falafel on the street and Ronald got a baguette with butter and jam from The Macaroni Club and we headed off. We were at that salon for three whole hours and they had to dye it two times because the first time it turned out blue with yellow underneath and so this time it is now a sort of greenish blue. He paid half and we left to go to the Grand Palace. We started walking and a few minutes later were told ... read more

Today was interesting actually. We started off by heading to the Grand Palace only to find out from a tuk tuk driver that it was closed on Saturdays and Sundays until 15:00. Then he offered to take us to a few other places around the city for 20 baht, 10 each! “What’s going on?” we wondered…that’s only $1 for quite a trip. We paid him in advance (Ronald was worried he would ask for 20 dollars after, so we figured we would just go ahead and pay him and be done with it) and he took us to a couple of temples and also to a couple of shops. This was funny because we were totally being taken advantage of and used for his selfish purposes…each place we went in to gave him a coupon and ... read more

There were a few stops during the trip where the driver or another worker would get out to buy something for themselves and some where we stopped at small bus terminals or on the side of the road to drop off/pick up people. Other than that, the journey was pretty smooth and we made pretty good time I think, and were at the Bangkok bus terminal a little after 6 am. I didn’t look at my watch so I don’t know how long it took to get to Khao San Road (the “backpacker area”), but I do know that it was over 30 minutes. Ronald and I shared a tuk tuk with an Italian girl for 50 baht each and when I looked at my watch at 6:50, we were about halfway through our ride because ... read more
