Colourful Cusco Indeed, what a lovely town Cusco is! I'm glad you had an enjoyable first day there, and well done on beating the altitude sickness. I completely agree, there's nothing like a warm smile and hospitality whilst travelling. I also agree on being able to learn something of the local language where one travels to.
Lima Thank you, Tab. I am indeed planning a trip to Peru for next summer. I've already been to the south of the country and this time I'm planning to visit Lima and other places in central and northern Peru. Lima seems a very interesting city to visit. All the best also in your trip to Tanzania ?
A Wonderful Ending... Your flight over the Nazca Lines sounds like a wonderful ending to your time in Peru and great photos. Like you, our 2014 trip left out Lake Titicaca and the Amazon, but we did spend a good amount of time in Lima, Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley, etc. Still I'd love to return to see the places like the Nazca lines, Arequipa, Uros Islands, etc. Maybe there will be a next time!
A Wonderful Ending... Yes, it was a happy ending with the Nazca lines. I read so much about it, I was dying to see them (so did I Machu Pichu)...We loved Lima, made friends and would love to go there again sometime. We missed Titicaca, but I reserved it to tag along with Bolivia. Amazon, ...ummmm, yes, a bit sore point...oh, well there is always the next time. Thanks for your comments...much appreciated! My next week is Tanzania...looking forward to...Yeeeye!!!
Got you off that fence We are nurse so lean toward scientific explanations and needing proof. As we've traveled we realized some things don't make sense and can't be explained. We have to accept things that don't come easy. Plus there are some rocks at the top of Machu Picchu that come from 3,000 miles away..... how else do we explain these things. I think we just accept that we have friends in the universe and move on. :)
Now off the fence! Exactly MJ...i also wondered of the same rocks in Machu Pichu - how did they came there! No answer! Great, we think on the same wavelength.
One of our favorites There are so many amazing things in Peru but this was absolutely one of our favorites. It requires you to suspend what you think you believe and be open minded. After reading Chariot of the Gods and other books I'm a believer. No longer on the fence. Too many unexplained things going on in Peru! MJ
One of the favourites You know MJ, sometimes when you are in dilemma and dwindle around a fence, a strong convincing opinion helps you to draw a line. And you have placed that strong opinion. We engineers are trained to analyze with factual interpretation, geometry, math and methodical approach. But I sure could not fit in the box those technical judgements of mine for the Nazca lines. So, I tend to believe you...and I tend to believe which I always believed - there are others in the outer space...we are not the only one!
Lima Lima looks beautiful. I'm glad you arrived safely, that immigration formalities were quicker than in Mexico, and that you were able to have a much-needed rest before exploring the city ?
Beautiful Lima It is indeed a beautiful City....today's Lima is a teeming City that has shrugged of its violent days from its recent past of the Shining Path Movement. The culture is diverse and is a fusion of the past with the present. You would love it when you visit Alex. Thanks Alex!
Mexico City Whistlestop Tour Wow! What a great idea to do some sightseeing during your long layover in Mexico City. I believe Alejandro chose the two most important sights there for you. I really like your comment on how complicated we are making life in our "western world bubble". I too learn lots from the comparative simplicity of life in developing countries. A good blog read indeed, thank you ?
Mexico City Whistlestop Tour Yeah, I always try to squeeze a local sightseeing when I have a relatively long layover. And the timing for the Mexico City was perfect. I wished to cover a bit more but Alejandro was much wiser than me than me and thank God for that. Oh yes, thank you for appreciating about my sentiment about the western bubble. I feel it over and over again whenever I do travel. Leaving for Tanzania on 12th. Please stay tuned for the future blogs. Thanks for reading, Alex!
Adiós! Im so glad you enjoyed the Nazca lines as much as I did. It sure makes you wonder about aliens and such. I’m still on the fence for the theory. You are right, there is so much more of Perú to see. I’ll be going back there someday too.
Adiós! You are so right! I am also on the borderline in my belief. We engineers always try to negate the theories of alien, but with the same engineering rationale, we cannot explain how such lines could be drawn without guidance! So, I am on the borderline of belief. Oh,yes, I would love to do more of Peru...but one at a time...I am heading for Tanzania on 12th...
I had so much fun in Huacachina! I had a laugh when you compared the Peruvian bus to a greyhound in Canada. Clearly we weren’t on the same bus!! Mine was more like a chicken bus in Guatemala! Enjoy the Nazca lines! They are mind boggling
Chicken Bus I can visualize exactly chicken bus that you experienced in Peru...I had one in Costa Rica. You know....having myself born in India, I guess traveling around with goat, chicken, pig etc. seems more natural to me than these luxury buses... I had to struggle to figure out how the foot rest works. Hahaha.
Ica Desert Your first desert landscape, Tab. That's a surprise. Maybe areas you should venture forth...so many deserts in the World there to explore. Coming from Oz we love deserts as so much of our homeland is covered by them.
Ica Desert You are absolutely right Dave, Ica being the first desert that I roamed around, it's a surprise for me too, given that India has desert as well. Yes I have passed by a desert or passed over a desert, but this was the first time I played in a desert...hopefully more to come...
Ica desert Yes, there are plenty to do in this small desert village and if we had time we could spend a day or two extras. But time always becomes a problem. I'm sure you feel the same way MJ. Thank you for reading and commenting!
My father grew up amid the green hills of Assam in India. When I was a little boy, I went with him to see the vastness of nature, holding his hand. He is the one who instilled the love for nature in me; everything I love in nature today, I owe to him.
I have lived in Canada for many years now, but my love for nature and the outdoors is everlasting. Travelling and photography are my passions. Although I visit tourist areas, I rarely spend time there unless there are historic interests. I often travel off the beaten paths of jungles, mountains and rural areas. While travelling to such places... full info
