In love with Chile I was smiling as I read this as many people feel that way about where you live! Glad you continue to share your enjoyment. Great photography.
Good night Robert Frost Hahaha...I sure get speechless sometime...especially in front of Nature. Like you said MJ, it's endless beauty and I thrive to get more. That makes me speechless....believe me or not!!! LOL
Bleak and Beautiful Atacama The stark desert takes your breath away. It is lovely and yet ugly. One must visit to understand. Well at least you float well. LOL. Thanks for sharing.
Bleak and Beautiful Atacama You are so right MJ...desert has a special attraction...it is rugged, but beautiful. And of course you know my floating stories for a long time!!!
travel "Traveling allows you to explore new cultures, taste delicious cuisines, and create unforgettable memories. Whether you're wandering through ancient cities or relaxing on pristine beaches, each journey is a unique adventure waiting to be discovered."
travel You are absolutely right. I would like to add one more point that is vital to me - interaction with local people, that is a great treasure to me.
Swimming in Laguna Cejar Hi Dave, I couldn't swim anyway, because I don't know how to swim. MJ asked me many times to take lessons, and so I did; but it's too late in the game I think - you cannot teach new tricks to old dogs, I suppose. The composition of water in Laguna Cejar is mostly salt. According to Wikipedia ...“The Laguna Cejar is a sink hole lake in the Salar de Atacama, 18 km from San Pedro, Chile. It has a salt concentration that ranges from 5 to 28% (50 to 280 parts per thousand), producing at the higher end of the range an effect of floating like the Dead Sea.”
Extraordinary Hi Dave, Again, you are so right! This is among some of my best shots...received a lots of accolade from National Geography for this one...
The clarity and angle is amazing I find photos a challenge from planes. With what and how did you get such a clear photo as if you are looking vertically straight down over the subject, when presumably you would have been sitting at least close to horizontal? Quite an extraordinary image!
The clarity and angle is amazing Hi Dave, you are absolutely right! I found from my earlier experiences, that SLR cameras are not suitable for taking vertical shots from a plane...manoeuvring the lens is very awkward due to the flat window glass. Later, I found, smart phones are much easier to focus for a near vertical shot due to its geometry. That's what I used for Nazca lines in Peru years ago, and that's what I did this one too. And it worked. I increase the zoom to bring the object closer and then just hold it flat down almost vertically before taking the shot. Thanks for asking!
Lago Grey Thank you Dave. And I am impressed with your Spanish...and you used the word 'Route' in your blog as 'Ruta'. So as here...you used the correct word 'Lago'...
Fisheye Capture Great image of Torres del Paine, which is magnificent at every angle. Yet when our daughter visited there on an around South America truck safari, it was cold and wet and the howling wind took the edge off it for her. How fortunate you were that the weather in your pics was of Mother Nature smiling on your visit.
Fisheye Capture You are right! We were fortunate to find a great weather in Torres del Paine. Actually, we had a wet snow one half day in Punta Arenas and because of winter, we couldn't get any tour to Tierra del Fuego to see the Magellan Penguins. So, I keep it in my agenda for the next time we visit. Thank you for your compliment on my Fish Eye capture!
The Most Beautiful Place in the World I remember when you said a year or so ago that you were going to Patagonia this year and my hope you would get to Torres del Paine, Tab, as it is my "Most Beautiful Place in the World". Now you have seen its beauty with your own eyes and you wax lyrical in your blog of its effect on you, I smile and say to myself that I know what you are talking about.
The Most Beautiful Place in the World I was waiting for your comment, Dave. I went back in days to read your blog on Torres del Paine just to make sure I am not exaggerating in my blog. Of course Torres del Paine is a beauty unparalleled. I wish I could move to Punta Arenas or Puerto Natales for a year or so...I could make it to her beauty so often. But I know, we can only dream our dreams, not the realities in life! Thank you for your lovely comment, Dave!
My father grew up amid the green hills of Assam in India. When I was a little boy, I went with him to see the vastness of nature, holding his hand. He is the one who instilled the love for nature in me; everything I love in nature today, I owe to him.
I have lived in Canada for many years now, but my love for nature and the outdoors is everlasting. Travelling and photography are my passions. Although I visit tourist areas, I rarely spend time there unless there are historic interests. I often travel off the beaten paths of jungles, mountains and rural areas. While travelling to such places... full info
