We are very glad to be leaving the ship today. This is the first time we have ever felt this way, and we have done 14 day cruises before. We were disappointed that all the TV channels had been disabled this morning, so no update available on any news item. Is this really necessary. We also think that the turned the air conditioning off during the night to make sure we did not stay in the rooms longer than we had to. Not a very welcoming end to our cruise. All seemingly very unfriendly for departing guests. Never ever experienced this with any other cruise line. We had asked for the 9.30am tickets to get off the ship, but they gave us 8.15am so we decided to skip breakfast and catch something when we got to ... read more

We got up this morning to find that it was raining again. We had planned some final sunbathing, but not in this weather. At 10.30am, the captain and his two top officers held a presentation meeting in the theatre. This was a very interesting insight into the building of the ship, the future of it and normal operational processes. This concluded with a guest question and answer session. After that, as it was still raining this was an ideal time to do the packing ready for our exit from the ship tomorrow. All larger bags need to be outside of the cabin by 10.00pm this evening for collection by the cabin steward for assisted offloading. We met a Canadian couple at lunch who had very much the same feeling about this ship as we do. It ... read more

Asia » Malaysia » Penang » George Town May 16th 2019

We were disappointed this morning to find that it was raining. But it was still very hot and humid, so we carried on with our plans to go ashore. Maybe 35 - 38 degrees we think. The cruise port in Penang is rather small, but they did have a good exchange bureau, so we used the €30 we got back from the Indian Rupees to buy a few Ringgits. As it was still raining, we thought the best thing to do was to try to catch a bus. Penang has a free bus service that goes around George town, so we thought that would be a great place to start. Unfortunately, there were so many other people on the bus by the time we found where to get on that the bus was totally full. No ... read more

Oceans and Seas » Indian » Andaman Sea May 15th 2019

We had hoped to do the Galley Brunch yesterday for George´s birthday, but it still felt like a bit of a celebration today. When we arrived in the main the dining room, we were really surprised at how many people were doing the brunch. We were thinking there would be a group of 10 or 20 and there were about 150. They split us into groups of about 15 to take us around a small area of the galley and explain how the different sections and areas worked. Seems like most cruise ships are the same. You can tell this is a new ship as everything is still looking pristine. After the tour, we were given bottomless sparkling wine, or in George´s case orange juice, and it was constantly replaced. It was a bit too early ... read more

George decided that he did not want to do anything special today. As we have an early brunch booked for tomorrow, he is not keen on going out for special meal either. So today was very much like the last few days with a few hours in the sun and some relaxation... read more

Oceans and Seas » Indian » Andaman Sea May 13th 2019

Having a really relaxing time. All these sea days in a row with nothing to do. Perfect for us. We have looked through the RCCL Cruise Compass each day but have not yet found anything to interest us during the day. Another day of sun bathing it is then. Not really happy with Royal Caribbean - Our close circle of friends know exactly why. We are currently crossing the Andaman Sea which is prime Tsunami territory.... read more

Oceans and Seas » Indian May 12th 2019

We have a few sea days ahead of us so plenty of relaxation time. Nothing much to do today but just lay in the sun. There was a lovely breeze so the sun did not feel so hot. It is really strange, but with a ship with 4500 passengers on board, only about a third of the sun beds are in use. Most people seem to be sticking to the indoor solarium with its air conditioning. Of the people that are braving the outside temperature of about 35 degrees, many of them are looking very pink due to not using sunscreen. Not a good idea in this heat. Asian people do not seemingly lay in the sun. The ship's shop does not sell sun cream for those silly enough not to have brought enough along. They ... read more

Asia » India » Kerala » Kochi May 11th 2019

We had again done our homework for Kochi and worked out that it was a lot more spread out that Mumbai was. We planned to get a Tuk Tuk to the fishing nets and then work our way back towards the port. Unfortunately, all the drivers only wanted to do a tour. We asked a couple about a one way trip and they just walked away from us. This was a big clue for a rethink. Eventually, we went to the taxi tent that had been set up for the cruise passengers. They gave us details of a tour around Kochi. It was either 1000 rupees (£10) for three people in a tuk tuk or 2000 (£20) for four people in a taxi. So we agreed to a Tuk tuk tour. Our driver was very knowledgeable. ... read more

Oceans and Seas » Indian May 10th 2019

After the hectic day in Mumbai yesterday, it was nice to get a lay in today. We had a lazy morning in the sun and catching up with some new friends. It is always nice to see what they did on shore visits and to hear what they are planning on the next shore days. Some people seem to set themselves up to be ripped off as they either have not planned or are not prepared to do anything for themselves. This is all part of the general experience as far as we are concerned. A holiday is what you make it and need not be expensive. The chefs had made some lovely cakes that were on offer in the Windjammer tonight. We would have loved to try them all, but not sure our waistline would ... read more

India is somewhere neither of us has been to before, so are very interested to see it. We have done a fair bit of homework for this as we want to get to see as much as possible. The ship docked at about 4.00am in the morning, and by 7.30am, we were all allowed to start leaving the ship. The ship is docked a long way from the port entrance, so there are loads of shuttle buses to take everyone to the entrance. No need to book these though as there are so many of them. The journey to the entrance took about 10 minutes. Once off the buses, they checked our visas again and we were in Mumbai. It was absolute chaos. For about 20 minutes, we walked through man after man asking us if ... read more
