Yesterday we just arrived in HCM city. (Ho Chi Minh City). The first impression wasn't so great. Even though we knew where we want to go (we had the address) but we didn't know the exact place where it is from the bus station. The first person we met was a taxi driver - seemed as really nice one, who offered to take us to the hotel. So that was a blueTAXI (there are blue and white ones). As we needed to exchange money for vietnamese dong, he to took us to money exchange (it was jeweller-shop as well), where they gave us really bad rate (16.000 dong for one dollar, instead of 21.000 they gave us at the hotel...) Not having any 5 dollars note, we were forced to exchange the 20 dollar one. First ... read more

From Siem Reap to Phnom Penh, the city where I first tasted tarantulas and snakes, was even forced to buy the face mask as the Asians do (yes, pollution), visited the prisons of Pol Pot and learned more about cambodian history (I don't want to write more about this topic, see for yourself if you'll have the chance, but it's something hard to forget.). After the disastrous experience in the bus (thank all Gods for the Citronella we bought back in Thailand), there was our new guide, friend of Yuth (see my previous post about Siem Reap), awaiting us at the bus station. He proved to have much better English than the tuk-tuk driver before - almost so good as our guide from Siem Reap. Lucky has a tuk-tuk by himself, so there was no problem ... read more

From Thailand to Cambodia, from the quiet island of Koh Chang (see my previous entry) to lively Siem Reap. After 13 hours in bus, another bus, tuk tuk, ferry and all the other stuff you need for transportation here, it is not easy to focus on finding a hotel here - even if it's not a big deal, there are plenty of them. But better find one by your own before and show the taxi /or tuk-tuk as they call it here, but i's not the same as you probably saw in Bangkok/ the adress straight away. Our dear driver tried to take us to some other places, where he becomes some money for bringing customers - but as usuall this aren't the best one you can get - we checked in in the hotel recommended ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Ko Chang January 11th 2012

Koh Chang is welcoming more and more tourists every year, but it still has little bit of this wild beauty, that those not-yet-spoiled places have. Since they didn't finish the road around the whole island yet, the western side like Lonely beach is the one where you'll almost 90% of them. On the other side and after you pass Ko Chang Tai, there are very few of them, and if you go to Ko Phrao Nai, or Ko Phrao Nok - which you can do by renting a kayak, there are almost only natives, if anybody at all. After arrival, we decided for the southern part, so we was offered to be taken with a lovely lady from the harbor and her husband. There are many taxis on the island, but as I said, almost all ... read more

I fell in love with the city immediately after arriving. Unfortunately I think it's only one sided love, since I spent today in bed in hotel - partially running to the bathroom as even the little I ate yesterday wanted to go back the way it came - and partially I prayed for something to eat what would stay where it belongs. (It's been only two days and I already am longing after our bread with butter!) On the other side - it was my fault to take the straw out of that ice (made of no bottled mineral water) and drink with it. Silly me. I think I'll upload the photos whenever I'll find next internet connection (and pray more in the meantime, I hope it helps...) Anyway, arrival was very lovely. Eva Air stewards ... read more

Europe » Italy » Tuscany » San Quirico d'Orcia August 10th 2011

We started our trip in San Quirico D'Orcia and it's like to start with the best wine and than move to Coca Cola (not that there is something bad about Coke, i like it). San Quirico is - for me - heart of Tuscany, THE place to go when you want to be inspired and just create. There is that magical old town (i didn't know by than that there are a lot of magical old towns around Tuscany:)) If you visit this place, don't miss the bookshop (just ask for it the locals, there is only one:)) and if you like eating in the garden, go to Trattoria Osenna. They are very very nice to tourists and will suggest you something special for your taste. It was short trip, so we moved almost everyday - ... read more
