Monday morning we set out again heading northwest toward Nekusp. Once again we enjoyed an awesome drive along windy mountain roads - with no place to stop or pull over. But the views were incredible!! We drove 11 Km up into the mountains to Nakusp Hot Springs but decided not to stay there. So we went on to Halcyon Hot Springs and were very glad we did. What an awesome place this is with the pools looking out over Upper Arrow Lake and the surrounding mountains. We booked in here for 2 nights to enjoy the mineral hot springs - so relaxing!! Halcyon Resort offers the Lodge, chalets, cottages, cabins and a smaller full service RV park. After enjoying the Hot Springs for two days we are totally relaxed!! So now it is time to head ... read more

Today was set aside for sightseeing. We left Nelson and headed east and north toward Kaslo along the west side of Kootenay Lake. First stop was what we called the "tugboat house." It is for sale, but would take a special person to buy it. Next stop was the Blaylock Mansion Resort and Spa. This huge mansion overloks the west arm of Kootenay Lake. Apparently it is fully utilized right now as all the signs said "No Vacancy" and "Registered guests only." Then we passed the ferry terminal and turned North to see what was up the road. The major town is Kaslo, a very charming and somewhat "artsy" community that began as a timber town in the late 1800's. We had a wonderful lunch in the new hotel, which is built to look a hundred ... read more

Saturday, September 8, 2012 We plan to spend several nights here in Nelson so we can leave the trailer and do some exploring in the truck. Nelson sits in a narrow valley between the Selkirk Mountains and on the banks of Kootenay Lake. Originally the city developed because of nearby Silver mining and timber industry. Today it is known as “the college town which has lost its University!!” This morning we explored the town, walking along the Waterfront Pathway, discovering several of the city parks and taking a ride on the Tramway which also runs along the waterfront. We were fortunate to have the President of the Tramway Society board our tram and then give us an interesting history of its development. The city of Nelson purchased car No. 23 in 1924 from Cleveland, Ohio. Three ... read more

Friday, Sept. 7, 2011 We spent the night in a small RV park in the city of Creston. Creston is nestled in a picturesque Valley know for its mild climate and bountiful orchards. It is also known as “The City of Swans” as it is the home of the Creston Valley Wildlife Society with 17,000 acres of lush wetland habitat, 285 species of birds and 57 mammal species. As we left the valley on another perfect morning we drove all the way along the east side of Kootenay Lake on Hwy 3A. The early morning was clear and the water in Duck Lake still enough to give us beautiful reflections of the mountains – too bad there was not snow on the tops of the mountains. At Kootenay Bay we took the free ferry across the ... read more

Today we took a drive up to Radium Hot Springs just to see how it compares with Fairmont Hot Springs. The small village of Radium has several Motels with a distinct Scandinavian look. It also seems there is a competition to see who can have the showiest flower boxes!! Now the rain has come - the first rain since we left home 18 days ago. Good to be inside where it is warm and dry with a good book. And Dwain will be able to watch his Cowboys play tonight! What a life.... read more

Coeur d'Alene to Fairmont Hot Springs. Today you could say I was in the "Hot Seat" all day. As we left Coeur d'Alene and headed North toward the Canadian border I was in the passenger seat with the morning sun streaming through my window. After lunch I was in the driver's seat with the afternoon sun streaming through the window!! Don't know how that happened! (I DO!!! DH) The morning drive was through very pretty country of farms, cattle ranches and Pine forests. However, once we crossed into BC there was a dramatic change. Here we are back where there are REAL MOUNTAINS!! We are on the west side of the Rockies and they are awesome. Too bad they are bare at this time of year, but they are still quite spectacular. Drove up to Fairmont ... read more

LABOR DAY, Sept. 3, 2012 Another P-E-R-F-E-C-T day here in Coeur d'Alene!! Earlier as I was reading through the Travel Guide magazine for Northern Idaho I noticed that the Symphony Orchestra was giving a free concert in the City park at one o'clock this afternoon. So, of course, I wanted to check that out!! Both Dwain and I were busy this morning. Dwain washed the truck and vacuumed the trailer while I did the laundry. Then this afternoon we relaxed in the lovely city park under the shade of beautiful trees and enjoyed the concert. They played Pops, light classis and patriotic music ending with the 1812 Overture. Also featured a guest artist from Canada on the Xylophone (very tallented). So tomorrow we head north again into BC near Creston, so we may or may not ... read more

Saturday afternoon we took the scenic drive around Lake Coeur d'Alene - about a 3 hour drive. Wonderful views of the lake, boats and beautiful properties. However, once again we noticed that many of these properties are for sale. Another indication of the economic climate here. Sunday we did the Sunset Dinner Cruse on Lake Coeur d'Alene to celebrate Dwain's 71st birthday. What a perfect evening that was - calm, mild evening, delicious buffet dinner, and a close-up view of how the "wealthy" live. In many ways it reminded us of Telico Lake in Tennessee where Ron and Patty live. The boat left the dock at 4:30pm in bright sunshine. Later we watched the sun set and just as we were pulling into the dock a beautiful full moon was rising over the mountain just behind ... read more

On Friday we left Gravite Lake, Clarkston, WA and had another interesting drive through wheat fields. The wheat has now been harvested and the hay was being cut and baled. Friday afternoon we arrived in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, where we planned to stay over the long holiday weekend. Once again we have a beautiful spot righ near the water. Coeur d'Alene is the home of North Idaho State University which sits on the banks of Lake Coeur d'Alene almost in the heart of town. With so many big lakes and rivers in this area it is certainly the place for boating. All kinds of water toys can be found here from small inflatable rafts to huge motor launches.... read more

After leaving Diamond Lake we spent one night in Prineville at an RV Park that had full hook-ups and a Laundromat. You guessed it! We needed to do laundry and reorganize for our trip ahead. It was sad to see how the economy has affected this area of Oregon. The park we were in used to be a very active place, but now it is used primarily by low-income families who cannot afford to live in regular housing. This park, along with others, is up for sale. It was first listed for $1.3 Million. Now they have it up for just $650,000 and it is still not selling!! A huge park with meeting room, pool and spa, hook-up sites and a large tent area. People cannot afford to keep up these places and are losing it ... read more
