We had made plans to visit with friends from our days in Portland. They have now moved to Bend, Oregon, so we planned to meet them in Sisters for lunch. Again we were fortunate to have a sunny day though there were some clouds when we left Salem. To get to Sisters we drove East up Hwy 26 along the North Santiam River. This brought back memories of when Dwain would take David and Mike canoeing on that river when the boys were young. In Sisters we had a great visit with our friends, catching up on family news. After lunch Dwain and I took off to capture pictures of the area before returning to Salem. Fortunately the clouds had burned off enough so we could see most of the mountains as you will see in ... read more

While we are in Oregon for a month with our RV I have decided that the quickest and easiest way to keep you all up-dated with our activities and the pictures is to continue with our BLOG. Today is Saturday, April 25, 2015 and a perfect day for taking pictures because of the big, fluffy clouds in the sky and the sunshine. Very enjoyable after several days of cold and rain. So we took the opportunity to drive around the countryside and capture some shots of the beautiful country around the Salem - Woodburn area. This is the quickest and easiest way to share my pictures with you all. I trust you will enjoy the tour with us. Dwain was pastor of Emmanuel Bible Church in Pratum (east of Salem) from 1977-1986. When we drove out ... read more

We cannot believe this is the last day of Founder's Week. The time has gone so quickly and we have feasted on great messages from the WORD presented by speakers from all over the US. As you know, one of the things Lorraine was looking forward to was the music, and she has not been disappointed. We have heard all four of the music groups from Moody; Moody Men's Collegiate Choir; Women's Concert Choir; Moody Chorale; Symphonic Band Great Pipe organs in Torrey Gray Auditorium and Moody Church; and other groups and worship teams. So many wonderful memories.... read more

Monday and Tuesday nights there were special banquets for the Alumni. The first was our class or 1964 Banquet where we were able to meet graduates from our same class, and ask the question "What have you been doing the past 50 years?" What a wonderful time of sharing we had together. There were sessions all through the day at the Moody campus, a then in the evenings the services were held at Moody Church. What a feast of music and speakers we were able to enjoy. Well our first day of our trip to Chicago has been quite an adventure. We were up EARLY this morning (5;00 A.M.), went down for the complimentary breakfast and then got the 6 o'clock shuttle to the airport. We breezed through the security point very quickly and made our way to the departure gate. Our flight to Chicago left pretty much on time. It was a beautiful sunny morning as we were taking off so I was able to catch a couple of interesting pictures from the plane. We decided to have lunch at the airport since there were lots of choices of places to eat!! While having lunch we reminisced about how we would drive out here to watch the planes take off and land as our major source of entertainment!! Had no money to ... read more

What an amazing adventure we had today as we traveled into the Rogue River wilderness on Jerry's Rogue Jet Boat. Gold Beach which is named for the gold found near here in the mid-1800s, sits where the Rogue River meets the sea. All kinds of year round activities are available here - fishing and boating on the river, or beaches and ocean to please the entire family. Jet boat trips run up the wild and scenic Rogue River of 64, 80, and 104 mile round trips. The longer the trip the wilder the ride, so we chose the 104 mile all-day outing from 9:00am to 4:00 pm. The excursion included stunning scenery, wildlife viewing and white-water rapids!! Yes, we did get wet! On the way up river the boat made a stop at one of the ... read more

Sunday was a cloudy and somewhat drippy day but there were still a few things I wanted pictures of before we left Bullard's Beach. As part of the State Park they have a Horse Camp circle so people can bring their horses down and camp by the beach. The horse camp has corrals for your horses with your camping spot. Pit toilets are close by, but you have to go into the main camping area for flush toilets and hot showers. We drove back north to Coos Bay to try and get a shot of the bridge over the Bay. Also saw them loading a ship with timber for export in North Bend. Found a Sizzler for lunch which made my husband happy!! He loves their salad bar. Said I should have taken a picture of ... read more

CAPE BLANCO Again the weather was favorable with blue skies and sunshine so we decided to drive further on down the coast to a little town called Sixes and then west 5 miles off the highway to Cape Blanco Lighthouse. The lighthouse towers 245ft. above the ocean at the westernmost point in Oregon. It is also the oldest continuously operating light in Oregon and the last on our “Tour of Lighthouses”. Two of Cape Blanco’s most distinguished keepers were James Langlois who served for 42 years, and James Hughes who served for 38 years. Those are amazing records in any time, but when they were there the lighthouse was quite isolated. It wasn’t until Highway 101 was built in 1930s that a decent road was made into the ar... read more

BEACHSIDE S.P., YACHATS to BULLARDS BEACH S.P., BANDON Last night there was a full moon. Have you ever walked on the beach in the light of a clear, bright full moon? If not, I would strongly recommend it. That is what I was doing in the very early hours of the morning, looking for a picture of the moon reflecting on the water, of course!! We had reservations at Bullards Beach State Park for the week-end but not for Thursday night, so we needed to get there early to get our spot for four nights (you cannot reserve for the night you call). It is interesting to see how much the Logging industry has increased all down the coastal range. We have not seen so many log trucks for a long time. ... read more
