Geo: 41.85, -87.6501My flight to Chicago was fast, friendly and ontime. Once we got there, it was a mess. Our airplane had to sit in the "penalty box" (think: parking lot) while they scrambled to find a gate to park it at. This went on for 45 minutes or so. I felt sorry for the poor guy sitting next to the 400lb man who should have had to purchase 2 seats. That is something I really look forward to seeing less of...asses that are the size of my 46L carry-on.My friend's parents are really nice. His mom made a traditional Gujarati (India) meal of egg-curry, rice, lentil soup, and these tortilla looking bread things. You tear off pieces of the bread and basically wipe up whatever you want to eat and just eat it. No silverware ... read more

Geo: 39.103, -94.583This is the first all-nighter I've had to do since college. I've been up all night going over everything before I leave for Chicago tomorrow. I've scanned all my documents and emailed them to myself in case I need access to them on the road. I like this idea, because even if I lose everything I own, I can still get my documents from the web. I got a new battery for my watch too. I've been so lazy about getting a new battery that I haven't worn my watch in 4 months. Time to get used to it again (ack). It's amazing that Wal-Mart is the only store capable of replacing the battery in my watch, and for only $3!. The mall wanted $16, bastards. I'm a little drawn on how much insect ... read more

Geo: 39.103, -94.583I was exhausted last night after getting to my parents house at nearly 1am and then unloading all of my stuff. I managed to carry most of it upstairs before I passed out. I did a test packing of my bag and daypack. It seems right now that my bag is about 20lb and my daypack, about 7 with the laptop inside. I hope to keep my total under 27lbs, but this might not be possible. Some of the airlines in Europe have really strict weight limits (11lb?) on carry-ons so it might be a pointless attempt to make the cut. Zip-lock bags are great. The only problem is that the required air that is left inside of them around the object wastes a lot of space in your bag. I'm going to leave ... read more

Geo: 38.6276, -90.199The last day at work. My friends decorated my cube with a "map of the world" shower curtain with my trip drawn on it. Not only that, but there were donuts and a cake too. I'm really lucky to have such good friends at work. One of the few things that makes me sad is leaving good friends. Even if work was boring, I'll miss the company of such nice people. I question how much hospitality I'll find on the road.Of course, my only project, the one that was running so well last week, was completely broken today. I spent most my last day determining that it wasn't my fault. Oh well, I left before 6 so alls fair.I thought I'd put up a picture of the most known image of St. Louis, the ... read more
