Took a detour..sorry. JK JK. We are in Bari, in the Puglia region right now. Our bus came late so we are spending the day here and taking a slightly later than desired train to Rome (don't worry, we already have reservations on it). SOO to save money and make sure we don't hit late trains tomorrow morning, we are going straight to the airport tonight. We should get there about 9 or 10 hours before the plane leaves so we shouldn't have ANY problems with the newly heightened security. :) We're attempting to find one last hot meal for today but due to the holiday everything seems to be closed. We're excited to go home and will see you all tomorrow!!... read more

We are in Greece! We got here yesterday afternoon..and due to the holidays, have to leave tomorrow evening. We've met a bunch of other backpackers in our travels: some from Italy, some from Canada, some from Brazil, 1 from New York, and 1 from Iran/ Finland! We saw the Acropolis today, and met a few crazy Greek dogs. I think the dogs tried to be our tourguides on our way to the temple of Zeus. The dogs tried to bite the taxis if they got too close to us..no joke! They might have thought they were protecting us but we thought we were going to see a dog die! CRAZY! Mel and Sara bought new books to read yesterday for the ferry ride and plane ride home. We are hoping to bike around Patras tomorrow afternoon ... read more

HAPPY NEW YEAR! So we spent the night in Salerno last we left off. Before coming back to go to sleep, we spent the day in Pompeii. It was incredible to see the city left just as it was in 79ad when the Volcano had erupted! After the night in Salerno, we headed for Sicily, where we were staying in Castiglione di Sicilia. I thought my Italian was getting better until we got to Sicily. They don't speak italian there, but Sicilian..which apparently is VERY different from Italian. We made friends with a couple of people about our age staying at the same B&B as us, and rang in the New Year teaching each other card games from our respective coutries (they were Italian). This morning we got up and took a train to Naples, where ... read more

Europe » Italy » Lazio » Rome December 28th 2009

Unfortunately today is our last day in Rome. But we've had a good time while here. Yesterday we went to the Colosseum, the Forum, and Palatine Hill. All were absolutely beautiful! There must have been some kind of festival because the streets by the Colosseum were closed off and a lot of people, or maybe it was just because it was a weekend. So today we took the metro to the Vatican and walked all the way to the top, lots of steps. But the view was definately worth it. After that, we went to the Vatican Meusem's and the Sistine Chapel . We then walked to the Trevi fountain and Mel and Sara tossed in coins, so we're coming back! Things We Have Learned: 1. Mexico has lots of stray dogs, Italy has lots of ... read more

We've been in Italy since Christmas Eve but this is our first chance to update the blog. We spent the last 2 nights at the Locando Rocco in FLorence. It was a nice little hostel that we had to ourselves Christmas Eve, but shared with a few guests last night. It's been raining on and off in Italy since we got here. Sometimes it's really warm, other times (like now) it's a really cold rain. Soo the real story: We got attacked by terrorist cheese monkeys in Florence..or at least we can tell people that and they will nod and smile sympathetically because they don't know how to say monkey in English Mel learned that she doens't know how to walk. Sara can't drink water. Grady must have a leg bed and likes cheese juice. The ... read more
