Southern side of Uluru

Southern side of Uluru
When we walked around Uluru years ago I was struck by the way the shape of the rock changed as we walked around it. Staggered really as the iconic view in photos is only from a viewing site by the road as one approaches. An absolute must to walk around the rock, David, and I note from your blog the walk is a warm 10 kms!!! Gives an idea how large the rock actually is.

Many faces of Uluru
A fabulous collection of the many faces of Uluru that can only be discovered by walking around the rock, David. Beautiful.

Uluru from the air at sunset

Uluru from the air at sunset
The variety of your pics of Uluru at sunset give a wonderful insight that there are many textures of Uluru that can be seen from the air, David. The striations from this angle are my favourite. Must do the helicopter run if I get the chance to return.

14 days
14 days isolating while working is a small price to pay for another adventure. Sorry some of the plans were hit by the world wide pandemic but you've done a great job getting on the road in your backyard. Barvo.

Off the beaten track
We enjoyed your blog. All those unknown left turns take on adventure. Love the photo of you with the netting.... those dang flies.

The Dog Fence

Envy!
Loved it - can't believe how much I'd like to be there and can't understand why, in all the years I've had available to me, I never thought of doing something like this before now. The Breakaways are spectacular and I am reminded of some of the photos I've seen of the Painted Desert which I plan on visiting next year on the way back from WA.

The Dog Fence

I know what you mean
I can't believe I haven't done road trips like this and my WA one last year before. The Breakaways were a good consolation considering I can't quite make it to the Painted Desert on this trip. I recommend checking it out though, even if you go to the Painted Desert as well. It's a quick visit.

Same thing happened to me. Booked 2020 off to travel, and boom pandemic. Like you, I’ve found salvation in my own backyard. Awesome!

Good to hear you're still able to do some travelling!

Breaking Covid
Good on you David for taking on the 14 day quarantine so you were not thwarted in your remote South Australian 4WD odyssey. We have done two inner New South Wales forays as someone's gotta do it. Keep well and keep driving!

Thanks Dave
Glad to hear you've still been able to get some travelling done too. I have another 3 weeks in November and if the Victorian High Country stays off the cards, I'll be staying in NSW. Not sure where yet, but it's a big state so I'll be able to find something!

Akrotiri and obsidian
Uplifting to find someone out there from Australia who shares my passion. I wonder if you've seen Akrotiri. That Minoan outpost on Thira presents many details of Minoan daily life untouched, buried under Rubble and volcanic ash. I liked also to search for the sources of obsidian. It was a very desirable raw material in Bronze Age and traded far & wide. Now archeologists trace prehistoric trade routes identifying obsidian found in excavations.

Great Australian Bight

Crossing the Nullabor
Gotta be one of the great roadtrips of the World David, and only the tough dare endure it. Lovely pics that are so Australian, they really take me home though the Nullabor is still waiting for us. Pleased to hear of the insects as in Russia we learnt that the declining insect populations are measured by the "windsceen test". Yep...the number of insects that splatt on car windscreens. Maybe there is hope for Australia after al!!!

Great Australian Bight

Splat!
As painful as they can be, I certainly would not want to live in a world without bugs. I hope my experience is a sign of a healthy population, even if they were annoying at times!

A fabulous accomplishment
Crossing the entirety of Australia is something we really want to do 'one day'... the Nullarbor has always fascinated me, but maybe I should heed your caution about expectations :) Well done for accomplishing such a massive driving feat!

Thanks!
There are still places of isolation to be found, but you have to head further north, I think. The highway only skims the southern edge of the Nullarbor. I will be exploring more in the years to come, and I hope you don't let my expectations dissuade you from visiting the Nullarbor!

Sure were!
You've got to love coincidences that happen when you travel! Purely accidental that I was in town for that.

Surfers Cove

Beautiful scene
I've always thought surfers were brave or crazy... maybe a bit of both.

Peaceful easy feeling
I hate that your time in Western Australia is nearing the end as we have enjoyed traveling along with you. I'm glad you've got your wine and chocolates. Your 4 wheel drive guide has come in handy.

I'm glad I did too!
Thanks for reading, and the kind words.

Of road exploration
Shhh... we won't tell anyone about Lincoln National Park. Sounds like heaven. Your timing on this trip seems to be perfect. Thanks for taking us along.
