Before I get China on the brains, I better go ahead and get my final notes on South Korea out like I promised. What follows are my observations and commentary on the things I saw and experienced whilst south of the DPRK. This has been a few days in the making seeing as how I'm already onto my second city in China. - Fashion: the two cities that I visited, Seoul and Busan, are the two largest in South Korea which may have affected my viewpoint, but I must admit that those South Koreans are pretty schnazzy, fashion-forward dressers. There were a few trends that I doubt will ever hit it big stateside like: couples dressing exactly alike and 75% of the young guys wearing skinny jeans. Wow. What a way to start off my trip. (Early side note: I'll have to remember to purchase a pedometer for when I travel next.) My trip over to the the land of "test satellites" was pretty uneventful. Aside from the world's worst excuse for in-flight entertainment, I got checked at every arrival for the swine flu. The thermal imaging as well as the hand-checked temperature didn't raise any red flags so you can't blame me for spreadin' this bug. I did manage to get my first souvenir for free -- my very own, swine flu face mask. Be jealous. Getting picked up by my friend here in Seoul was a blessing because as everyone quickly realizes, no one speaks a lick of english, street signs are for aesthetic purposes only, and the subway system is ... read more

After mont....ok, weeks of planning, the day has finally come for me to say bon voyage to the Taco Bell across the street and the comfort of my house and home. What awaits me is a vast unknown that fills me with a certain level of uneasiness but only in the sense that my time abroad is limited and I can't afford to miss anything (both figuratively and literally). Most people have labeled me crazy for going on this trip and especially crazy for going on a trip of 6 weeks, but I'm attempting to dispel the old adage, "youth is wasted on the young."
