Kee here again: On our way to Berlin we had to change trains twice and at the first train change is where our epic train adventure started. When we arrived at the new station (I can't remember the names of the stations), there were already millions of people waiting on the platform and there was a buzz all around, a sort of excitement in the air - then the train arrived, pulling slowly into the station and begins the drama! Everyone on the platform surged forward wanting to get on this train and let me tell you, the train arrived at the station already packed full of people. Picture this: Hundreds of people running towards the coaches with huge suitcases, trolley bags and backpacks. Although the train was so full, everyone just wanted to get onto ... read more

Kee writing again today Hey guys. Hope you are all well and enjoying our adventures. Tonight after dinner Kris and I went upstairs to the entertainment area at the frat house and we listened to music till very late while mom and Lars sat downstairs chatting and drinking wine. Tomorrow morning we leave for Berlin where we will be welcoming the New Year. For the first time since we in Europe, we will be taking the slow train as these tickets were very cheap. We had a qucik breakfast with Lars, before he dropped us off at the train station. It was a long trip to Berlin and we had to change trains a few times. Although our first train was full, we still had seats and it was comfy - but wait till you hear ... read more

We were going to spend one more day in Stuttgart according to our itinerary, but last night I was chatting to Lars, a German CSer who had spent last christmas in SA with us and he insisted that we come to Heidelberg, even if just for one day. He was now back in Germany, studying in Heidelberg where he was living in a fraternity house. He said that there was just no way we were coming all the way to Germany without visiting him so I guess we have to leave Stuttgart a day earlier than planned. I liked Stuttgart so much, and I really wanted to take the girls to Ludwigsburg, that I was feeling a bit sceptical about going to Heidelberg, but Lars was adamant that we visit him so that's settled! Today the girls just wanted to stay at home and relax. They were a bit tired of sightseeing, but I know that the only reason they wanted to stay home was because of the Wi-Fi! As for me when I travel, I WILL NOT waste a single minute, so I decided to go out on my own. This was the first time since our Europe trip that I was actually going out on my own and I was not all that keen, but I really did not want to waste the day, so I just plucked up the courage and left, not as early as I would have liked to, but I went anyway. As per Ute's advice, I thought I would go visit Duke Ludwig's Palaces. There were three palaces in total, the residence palace, ... read more

After the Mercedes museum we had to do the long walk back to the station to take the train to the other museum. We actually wanted to go to the dinosaur museum where Ute told us there was the remains of the only pregnant dinosaur in the world. I wanted to see this as I was always under the impression that dinosaurs hatched from eggs and were not born alive, but no go for that as we ended up in the wrong museum. Kris was not too thrilled as the dinosaur museum was her choice. Kee also really wanted to go to the hot springs spa called Mineralbad along the way, but I said that it was too cold and that they would catch a cold going from one extreme temperature to another and besides they ... read more

Kee writing today: This was my highlight of Germany - the Mercedes Benz Museum! Mom and Kris were not too keen to go here, but I was so extremely excited to see all the cars. We took two trains to get there and when we jumped off the train we had a looooong walk to the museum but it was actually kinda interesting coz on our way we saw these boys doing graffiti on the wall - radical dude:) We arrived at the museum and it was huuuuuge. The building is only three years old and very modern in design. It actually had a very futuristic look about it. I couldn't wait to spend my day touring this place learning about the beginnings of mechanized transportation. We had to follow a queue, which as we were ... read more

We drove through a scenic countryside from Luxembourg into Germany and found our host Ute's house pretty easily in Stuttgart, but I think I got the arrival times mixed up again and we arrived to a locked house!!! We waited for a while not knowing whether Ute was gone to work or if she had forgotten about us. Jonny waited with us for a little bit, but he had to leave as he had to drive 4 hours back to Lux. We tried sitting on the step outside the house but it was too cold, so we decided to leave our bags on the step and go look for somewhere warm to sit. The girls wanted to continue sitting on the step outside Ute's house as they found Wi-Fi there but hell no I wanted somewhere ... read more

Christmas dinner was nice - I cooked my world famous(or should I say "Europe famous" chicken curry) again and Joelle provided the dessert. Tomorrow we leave for Stuttgart Germany. Jonny kindly offered to drive us there even though it was four hours away. The girls felt comfortable here after the initial unease and had bonded with Emily and Samuel, so they felt a bit sad to leave:( Me too, I really loved the kids - they were so sweet:(... read more

After breakfast, the girls and I left with Jonny for a tour of the Mullerthal region. Jonny asked the girls if they wanted to go ice-skating and they were eager to go, so we had no clue as to what exactly the itinerary for the day was, except of course the ice skating and it was a really, really wonderful surprise at the fairytale scenic charm that was in store for us. The Mullerthal Region is truly a travel wonder of the world!! On a length of more than 110km, the Mullerthal passes through all the natural beauties of the Mullerthal Region - Luxembourg's Little Switzerland. Natural paths lead through forests and pastures and through impressive canyons and bizarre rock formations. Luxembourg is such a small country surrounded by giants like Germany and France that most ... read more

Today is christmas eve and when Jonny and Joelle returned from Germany, we accompanied them to Echternach, a little village about 6km away from Mullerthal. Yesterday morning Jonny had bought these croissants that were filled with chocolate and it was so delicious that I just had to get more, so we went to look for a bakery that had some available, but as it was christmas eve most of the bakeries were already sold out or closed - just my luck:( After a short tour of the village, we managed to find a bakery that had the last four panne au chocolaat and as it was christmas eve and they were about to close, they sold it to us for half the normal price:) We visited a church in the village where christmas mass was going ... read more
