Bon voyage! Liz sent me your link and I am as excited about your blog as I am about your trip. I miss TravelPod because it enhanced the experience for me and let others stay in touch. But surprise, surprise, your profile picture looks like a plantation in SC I have visited; is it? I am beginning to think you are as avid a traveller as I am. Anyway, have a good time; I hope to get to some of those islands one day.

Coast
It sounds like you had a great time on the coast. The Haystack is one of those things that I could just sit and look at for a long time.

3 Capes
The views really look nice and I'm sure the photos don't really do them justice. The paper shows Portland as being real hot (101 today, Monday). It sounds like it's much nicer near the ocean.

Seems like Congress here in Illinois is never in session.

Oh yes, Moses and Susan owned George's mom and also owned him I suppose for a bit. I should have clarified that!

Too bad I was not with you....you would at least have heard the song ;)
6th September 2016

I read up on George so now I know who Moses and Susan are.

Maybe dad and I should visit these two places. And the chicken restaurant!

Love this story. I can get a real feel for how it is there. Now I want to go.

Have you read *Pioneer Girl,* which annotates her first, unpublished nonfiction journal? It is loaded with pictures and quite fascinating. I know your mom has it.

Mary....Tine has that book. I have not read it yet. I want to borrow it one of these days when I have time to spend reading it.

What kind of roof is that....it still looks pretty good considering the age of it.

The whole trip sounds absolutely delightful! If I ever get a chance to go to Europe, I hope you will be a consultant for me!

I entirely agree with Anne. I regard myself as a pretty good travel planner for Europe, but you are terrific. And allow me to say also that you are a super travel writer. I will miss checking the blog everyday! Eager to hear about your n
ext trip.

Oh, Ghent sounds just wonderful! I'd love to go there. Marty wasn't too impressed with Brussels; he should have gone to Ghent.

We love museums, churches, etc. but just as much we love nice places to sit and watch the people. It sounds like Brugges is perfect for that!

Sounds like you had a good tour today and that military museum sounds like something dad would enjoy. He might like the waffles too! Enjoy your last day tomorrow. CU soon!

Nice gentlemen taking pictures....better to watch out for them. If there hadn't been the information center you could have found a shop to go into. Maybe I'm paranoid but it's best to be careful. Have fun on your last two days!! CU Mond
ay. Izzy will be thrilled to see you.

Oh, that looks really nice!Marty was wondering if Brugge would offer enough to fill three days, but it certainly seems as if you found plenty to do and see. I've heard that a good day trip from Brussels is Ghent. They say it is kind of lik
e Brugge but larger and with fewer tourists. But it does not look as if you need any advice from me!

Looks like another nice day. I hope you will find good things to do in Brussels.

Choice - or "freedom" - is what we most often take for granted. Until it is denied, it is like the air we breathe. Most of us alive today don't appreciate the threats that lurk like diseases in remission throughout history, and which erup
ted with unbelievable violence in the middle of the 20th century. I have not been to the battlefields and death camps of Europe, but I saw Nazi atrocities on film, which was used as evidence at Nuremberg's post-war trials by the American prosecutor. Those images and possibly more importantly the preserved camps like the one you visited are critical testimonials, aren't they? (For the film angle, see "Hollywood At War" in the New Yorker, March 17, 2014.)
