South America » Argentina » Buenos Aires May 30th 2015

Woke up in the afternoon. Lazed about and read a book called "all the light we cannot see". It is an amazingly well-written book. I would recommend it to everyone. We had lunch around 3 (normal argentinian lunch hour) and finally decided to drag ourselves out. Well, not exactly out. We cruised through gated compounds and stopped at a 'high class' area filled with shops and cafes. Nordelta, it's called. I feel that the inequality gap in Argentina is really vast. The rich have their nice cars and huge houses and machine gun armed guards. Outwith the compounds, people mostly clad in Adidas track suits roam about minding their daily business in the 'slums'. But is it the slums? Or is it just the normal part of Argentina? I don't really know. But watching these people ... read more

South America » Argentina » Buenos Aires May 29th 2015

Spent the entire previous day travelling and waiting. From Edinburgh to London to Paris and finally Buenos Aires. I like travelling. As in the travelling part of travelling. Waiting around in airports, queuing up to board the plane...I feel at home for some reason. We touched down in Buenos Aires in the morning and got picked up by friends who flew here earlier in the week. It was exciting, being in a continent that I've never been to before, yet when I look out of the car, it feels the same. It looks like the streets in Jakarta, in Moshi, in Phuket. They are the same, yet vastly different. We spent the whole day doing nothing. I exercised, napped, ate, planned to go out but ended up staying in to sleep more. What a productive day. ... read more

So, I haven't been writing anything for nearly a month. I shall update by sections. Kilimanjaro: They usually wake us up at 6.30am with ginger tea and then we walk, stop for lunch then walk more. We would reach camp and have dinner there. Sometimes, we have lunch at the camps too. All 9 of us made it to the top. Me being so unfit, I struggled but managed to make it up to the top anyway. It was amazing, I still don't think it has sunk in that I've climbed the tallest mountain in Africa. This trip has made me want to be fitter, so hopefully when I get back to university I would exercise more. All the people I met on the climb are really nice and funny. The porters and guides are really ... read more
