We visited the Plaza Mitre, opposite San Isidro Cathedral. The cathedral has been refurbished, giving it a very clean and new facade. The interior of the church was a little disappointing. The stained glasses were relatively small in size and there weren't many windows, so the inside of the church was quite dim. Many stalls were set up in the plaza. I like walking through flea markets. This one especially because it was a sunny yet cooling (albeit slightly windy) day and the huge trees that mark the corners of the square had bamboos hung on them as decorations. One corner had branches of flowers glued to a palate of bamboo, another had windchimes hung down from the bamboos. As it was windy, they constantly formed muscial tones, livening the atmosphere. Another corner had bamboos hung ... read more

South America » Brazil » Paraná » Iguaçu Falls June 12th 2015

The day started out cloudy and it even drizzled a little in the Brazil national park. The entrance to this national park was more well developed and structured. The park itself however was much smaller. Most of the waterfalls are located in the Argentinian side. This meant that the view from Brazil was spectacular. We weren't given a lot of time to walk through the trail (in my opinion anyway) but I still managed to enjoy the view immensely. Towards the end, just as we were leaving, the clouds parted and blue skies could be seen. The sun peaked through and I prayed for a rainbow. And not 5 seconds later, a rainbow appeared over the water falls. I have never been this excited or elated in my life. It was so beautiful. In the afternoon, ... read more

A van came and picked us up from our hotel and we left to the Iguazu National Park. The day was cloudy and it has been forecasted to rain. I however remained optimistic and insisted that I could see bits of blue sky and so there's still a high chance of it being a sunny day. Our first stop was Garganta del Diablo (Devil's Throat). We had to take a train to reach the place. It was the largest waterfall in the national park. It drains 40% of the water body. Mists were flying everywhere and I could scarcely see the bottom of the waterfall. But oh was it majestic. It was nothing like I've ever seen before. I didn't want to leave for fear that I would forget such natural wonder. We took the train ... read more

We took an afternoon flight to Puerto Iguazu. The view from the airplane was mesmerising. I took an excessive amount of photos with my phone, marvelling the sight like someone who has never been on the plane before. We stayed in a boutique hotel called Tupa. It is a decent hotel. For dinner we went to a restaurant El Quincho del Tio Querido. We shared a parrilla and it was scrumptious. I ate so much! We have to wake up to early tomorrow to visit the National Park. I'M SO EXCITED. Bueno noches.... read more

My friend had to replace her passport so we followed her to a local airport to do so. It was my first time seeing an airport with a centre, albeit a small one, providing passport services. Maybe they do exist in other countries and I've just never seen them before. It made perfect sense though, to have a centre in an airport. After all, that's where people need passports the most. Then, we drove through parts of downtown to Peru beach, which I thought was ironic since we were in Argentina. It was a small secluded area overlooking Rio de la Plata, the widest river in the world. It has a maximum width of 220km (!!) As mentioned in one of my previous post, it had a dirty yellow colour. Despite that foreboding and uninviting colour, ... read more

After 2 idle days, we finally got out of the house. As it was a Sunday, parking would be a nightmare. So we took the public bus to Plaza Serrano. It shames me to think that I've taken public buses in so many different countries but not in my own. Maybe I should try it one day. But I like driving too much. Plaza Serrano is a square surrounded by cafes and shops. During the weekends, stalls selling trinkets, shoes, clothes and anything imaginable are set up in the square. I've always loved markets like this. Before walking about the square, we had our mandatory tea time in an American diner called the Trixie. I had a Dulce de leche milkshake. Yum!! Although it was very very sweet. To get to the cafe from the bus ... read more

Took a bus tour today around Buenos Aires. I really enjoyed it. The city centre (or downtown, as my friend calls it) is very different from the Buenos Aires that I've seen in the past few days. One thing I've learnt from today was that BA has great architectures. The buildings are made from the French era and whatnot, reminding me of upperclass areas in developed countries. Trees line every street in the city, giving shade to the streets and its passer-bys. Sitting on the rooftop of the bus, the streets look very picturesque. We passed by various monuments and key buildings of the city. As BA is a huge city, I thought the bus was a good way to see the city. The only downside is that you only have 5 seconds or less to ... read more

Went to Martinez today. Its a lovely area filled with shops and cafes. Kinda reminds me of the streets along Bangsar Village, with the exception of there being trees everywhere and it not being hot or humid at all. We went to a cafe called Suss Cupcake Cafe and I had chocotorta, an amazing dessert in Argentina. Before heading home (hah!), we stopped by Unicentre, a shopping mall to do some grocery shopping. We went to a gargantuan grocery store called Jumbo. It was basically a variation of Jusco.... read more

We went to Paraná Delta today and had lunch there. I went to my first of many (hopefully) parrilla. I had a delicious beef sandwich called lomito. The delta was filled with shops and restaurants. There were many stalls selling trinkets and furniture and glasses and anything you could imagine. Throngs of people stroll about, afterall, it is a nice sunny Sunday in winter. We took a cruise along Rio Parana de las Palmas. The river is a dirty yellow colour but ironically, the colour isn't caused by dirt, but rather that is its natural colour. There were many houses with their own piers along the rivers. There are many established rowing clubs along the river as well. Canoes, rowing boats, speed boats, other tourist boats like ours could be seen along the river. The houses ... read more
