When we arrive in Belize we went straight out to the islands with Bob and Miriam and spend the first 2 nights in San Pedro. The appearance is of a small European city, but the atmosphere is all Caribbean. Instead of cars everyone drives golf carts, so of course we had to rent one for a night and rip around the island. Everything here was slow paced, grooving to the reggae music coming from every doorway. Then there’s the chicken drop… And it really is just how it sounds, they put a chicken in a fenced off square with a numbered grid. For our first night we rented little cabanas on the beach right next to the ruins. You could see the towers from our beach which was also full of butterflies, very cool! That night we were feeling a bit down about Dana's ipod getting stolen on the bus earlier, how it caused us to lose trust in these people, and the difficulties of getting around and with communicating with anyone. We discussed our fears and worries of the trip to come, something we had been holding in so that we had the guts to step on the plane. It was nice to get them out and know Dana felt the same. Opps, apparently you need to actually pay for your flight for them to book it.... We show up bright and early to catch our plane and somehow my VISA was never charged and therefore my reservation did not go through. There were still spots on the plane but for 6x the cost. We had a lovely hour before the plan left frantically calling the flight company to fix this little problem, and eventually they let us buy our tickets at the original price. This is where our motto and the theme of our trip arose of "It always works out in the end" which really helped (me in particular as Dana has been practicing this idea for years) deal with future panic-inducing and disappointing situations we would later encounter.
