Mark and I are on our third international trip together since we met. Our first journey was to Ireland two years ago, and then we honeymooned in Costa Rica last summer! We are very lucky to have each other and to share a common passion for travel.

Europe June 19th 2009

Just a quick note to say goodbye from Europe. Today is our last day in Interlaken and it has been rainy ALL DAY, so obviously Europe is sad that we are leaving as well. We got up this morning and rented bikes to explore the town a bit and are now inside drying off and eating lunch before heading out again! We have had an absolutely amazing time and are sad to leave, but excited to get home! It has been a blast sharing all of our travels with you and we hope you have had fun reading along! See you all soon! Auf Wiedersehen & Arrivederci from Europe!... read more

Hello all We wanted to inform you that we have decided to sell our house and move to Switzerland! Anyone else in?? Just kidding! But as you can tell it is amazing here. We have done a lot since our last update, so I will try to make it as brief as possible. Munich Our second day in Munich brought us to Dachau. The memorial concentration camp just outside Munich. It is a very hard experience to put into words. I can not decide if it made the Holocaust MORE real or MORE unbelievable. Overall the memorial was set up extremely well. We first got the audio guide and took the tour around the camp grounds. It was almost impossible to imagine all the things that happen on that same exact ground! We then watched a ... read more

Hello to all! We finally made it to Munich this afternoon. We had a nice day yesterday at the beach outside Venice. As Mark said "European's are not modest", and that is to say the least! But it was nice to get away from a town and enjoy sometime outside. We actually ended up enjoying our last night in Venice because we found the best pizza we had had during our whole trip, so we figured that is why we were stranded! We had another 430 a.m. morning, and caught our train at 515. We had a couple quick turnovers, so we were a little nervous that our luck from yesterday would follow us, but fortunately it did not and we made all our connections. We arrived in Munich around 1230 and got checked into our ... read more

Well, well, well. . . where do we begin. As you can tell by the title of this posting we are not having a good day. Where to begin. We woke up at 4 this morning to catch our train to Munich. About halfway there on our waterbus Mark realized that he did not have my passport anywhere. So needless to say we freaked out. We were able to figure out the last time we used it, which was to check email yesterday. So we took off for that internet cafe. But we had to sit outside for 2.5 hours since it was 6 in the morning until it opened. LUCKILY they did have it. So we jumped a waterbus back to the train station to book the next available train. BOOKED. . . . later ... read more

Hello everyone! We are in Venice right now and it feels like we are straight out of a movie. We arrived yesterday and took the waterbus down the Grand Canal to our hotel. We then went to Piazza San Marco, which was kind of a let down because it was just hoards of tourists and pigeons. Once we took a step into the back streets though it was a different feel. We have just been exploring the town and all the little canals. It is by far the toughtest city to navigate, as some roads just deadend against buldings, and others deadend against the canal with no way to get across. But it is still beautiful! Tomorrow we leave at 5:11 from our hotel to grab our waterbus and train to Munich! So Chao from Italy! ... read more

Hey again! We thought we would update this from Siena since we had a minute. We have both fallen in love with Tuscany. When we arrived yesterday afternoon we sought out a wine bar that was highlighted in our book. It was a cute place, built right into the city wall. After a couple glasses of wine we went for a walk around the wall to get great views of Siena and the Tuscan hills. Then we grabbed some MORE pasta at a little place in an alley. The streets here are absolutely amazing. There is no rhyme or reason to the set up, but looking down the roads it truely feels like a small Italian town. Siena is quoted as one of the best preserved Medival towns, and it lives up to that title. Today ... read more

Hello all! We finally have an extra second to sit down and write alittle update. We have been in Rome for three days now and the throbing in our feet is proof. We arrived on Sunday around 9 a.m. and after taking a train from the airport to Rome Termini (the main train station) we arrived at our hotel. After a power nap we were off. Our first stop was the Vatican. We took the metro there and explored all around the area. We went into St. Peters Basilica, walked around the piazza and climbed the 550 stairs to the top of the basilica. It was worth the sweat because the view from up there was amazing. We could see all over Rome. Once down we realized that we were not going to be able to ... read more

Hey everyone! We are very excited that we will be able to share our travel stories as we backpack through Europe. Although it may not be a daily occurance we hope to send small updates from every city we visit. As of Sunday we have officially bought our plane tickets. We fly out of MSP on June 6th and arrive back at MSP on June 20th. We had dinner with Andy & Steph (the Europe Guru's) last night and they gave us a lot of great advice pertaining to our different destinations! Right now we are planning on spending 3 days in Rome, with one day trip to Pompei, 1.5 days in a small town in Tuscany known as Siena, 1.5 days in Venice, 2.5 days in Munich, with a day trip to Dachau, and ending ... read more
