Geo: 46.6855, 7.8559We got up early on Thursday and drove to Lauterbrunnen. It looks a little bit like Yosemite, with vertical granite walls on each side of a flat valley. We took a cable car up to Gimmelwald. And I do mean up, almost straight up 2500 feet up the vertical granite wall. Gimmelwald is a small hamlet at the top of the cable car. Very cute. We walked around the hamlet for a while and then headed to the cable car for the second leg to Murren. This is a larger village right on the edge of the cliff. We walked around there and then took a funicular to Allmendhubel about 1300 feet higher up. What views!! Snow-capped peaks everywhere, small villages in the valley, absolutely gorgeous! We stopped at a waterfall that has worn ... read more

Geo: 46.6855, 7.8559 This blog might have some misspellings, due to the fact that we jus finished dinner and had a liter of wine. We arrived in Interlaken after a beautiful drive of about 60 miles. Wow, there are snow capped peaks everywhere! We checked into our hotel. We are on the 4th floor, they call the attic. The roof is angled on one side, which makes it a bit of a challenge to navigate, but it is clean and cute. After unpacking, we went down to the lobby to se about laundry, and guess what, they have a washer and drier that we can use for free! We put in a load and waited for it to finish and then put it in the drier. I told Stacy that we should do the other load ... read more

Geo: 47.0457, 8.30824We left Sunday morning and headed out to Luzern. It is only about 50 miles from Zurich. We got here in about an hour. We had a last second e-mail from a place we had hoped to get a room and they had one. We drove there and arrived about 11:30AM. We went in to tell them that we would come by later to check in, but the room was ready. We took in our luggage and found the place to be very quaint. It is more like a B&B than a hotel. We walked to downtown, crossed the old bridges, and looked for a laundry that the person at the B&B told us about. Since it was Sunday, it was closed, but it was not a coin op laundry. We have just enough ... read more

Geo: 47.3667, 8.55Well, we got into Zurich and decided to do our laundry before finding a hotel. When we finally found the laundrymat it was a dry cleaners. What another dissappointment. We then went to the TI and checked out rooms. They said something about a convention being in town and the only rooms left in Zurich started at $750 a night! We asked if there was something in a nearby town. Luckily there was. We are staying in Wintherthur, which is about a 20 minute train ride from Zurich. We asked about laundry facilities in Winterthur and were told that there were no laundrymats, but the hotel would do our laundry for us. After we got the price list from them, we picked out a few items we really needed and let them do it ... read more

Geo: 47.1411, 9.52148 Yesterday we got up and had breakfast and headed for the bus. We took the bus up to Malbun, and then the ski lift up to the top of he mountain. The weather was partly cloudy and cool. We looked around and took some pics and then Stacy rode the lift down and I hiked down the trail to the lift. It was about a mile and a half, all downhill. Boy, my legs were burning by then. I guess I need some more time on my elliptical. We got up this morning, jazzed that our bartender the night before gave us directions to a laundrymat. We drove over to Buschs and after several trys we found a laundry for an apartment, but it was locked. We were dissappointed, but knew that we ... read more

Geo: 47.1415, 9.52154 We finally found a place to do some laundry. Stacy came up with the idea to try a campground. Sure enough, they had a washer and drier there. We had to wait for someone else to finish their wash and then put in ours. It took a while to figure out how to work the machines, but we did it. Hooray, no naked American tourists! We then walked around St. Moritz for a while and then headed for Samedan. It is smaller than St. Moritz and cheaper, but more authentic. This morning, we left Pontresina and headed over the Fluelapass to Liechtenstein. We are staying for 2 nights. Hopefully we can take the bus to Mulban and catch a ski lift to the top of the mountain for a great view of Liechtenstein. ... read more

Geo: 46.4945, 9.90103We left Lake Lugano on Saturday and drove to Lake Como, which is back in Italy. We came to the town of Mennagio and stopped and looked around and had lunch. George Clooney wasn,t home at his Italian villa, so we headed north and stopped in the town of Gravedona. We were hoping for a laundry to be there, but it was not so. Maybe at the next stop. We found a TI and asked about rooms, but they were not very helpful, so we went out on our own and found a nice place for 1 night. It was called the Hotel Laura. We also had dinner in their restaurant. It was very good. Got to love that Italian food. This morning, we left to go to St. Moritz area. It is high ... read more

Geo: 46.0036, 8.9534Here we are in beautiful Lugano. We found the TI and they got us a room at AL Boccalino in Melide, which is a suburb of Lugano. It was cold and rainy when we got here, but the next morning was bright and sunny. We had a fantastic lightning show over the mountains on the first night. We got up and took the train to Lugano Paradiso, then took the funicular up to the top of the mountain. There is a church there and you can go to the top of the church and have a 360 degree view of Lake Lugano, the city, and all the way to Milan. After that, we got back on the train and went into Lugano and did a walking tour of the old city. We stopped for ... read more

Geo: 46.0036, 8.9534Well, here we are in Lugano. We arrived today after an hour drive in the pouring rain. Right now it is pouring, with thunder and lightning. We walked around in Verbania yesterday in the rain and even with raingear and umbrellas , we still got wet. We couldn't see alot either. The clouds are very low, so we can't see the hills and towns around the lake. But, it is supposed to clear up tomorrow, and be sunny for the next 3-4 days. We hope to get some great pics when the weather clears up. Here are some more pics that we took of Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn and Zermatt that I finally found. Also a few more pics of Verbania.... read more

Geo: 45.9215, 8.55156Well, we made it to Italy. The right front wheel didn't fall off. We found the Renault dealer about 5 km from Sion. He didn't speak any English, but somehow I convayed to him that I thought the right front suspension was loose. I went over and shook the wheel, which I did before, and it didn't budge. He looked at it and said it was fine, at least I think that is what he said. So we left and went over the Simplon Pass. It is al long and twisty road up and then down into Italy. The car felt fine, except for a clunking in the front. Oh well, as the French say, c'est la vie! We found a hotel all by ourselves and went in search of the only laundrymat in ... read more
