When you're in Gulu... Hey Charlie: I'm enjoying reading your blog. When you get to Gulu, be sure to visit Abitimo Odongkara, who owns UNIFAT school (I think on Airport Rd.), and Jennifer Anyayo, the young war victim I brought to Philly and DC for medical treatment. She would love to see someone from here. Please give both of them my best and have fun in the north.
Cool Wow...they are keeping you busy over there! The kids are so beautiful and it looks like you have a fun bunch to work with! I started laughing at the picture of the woman who threw an onion at you lol...
WOW All I can say is WOW!!! You are doing a great service. Please let me know what I can do to help you in your action plan when you return. I keep trying to figure out what I can do to make my life more meaningful - I think you can help me as well. Love you.
Hi Charlie. I hope that the culture shock has not affected you too badly. When you get to work with the kids, things will be easier for you! Their smiling faces and laughter can raise any spirit beyond any boundary... I am coming to Uganda on 10th August so we may even get a chance to speak. Conditions in Gulu may be more difficult for you to accept. Only telling you so that you can prepare your mind. Just remember that, by your actions, YOU are having a positive impact on their lives.. Stay safe man. Kev
Yay, you're there! Glad you got in safely...this is so awesome! The brief conversation you had before boarding is a small glimpse of what you're going to get while you are there for the next two months...can't wait to hear what happens next. Love you Daddy!!!
Living Graciously WOW. . . .It feel as though your blog pulls me from my urban reality to a place of gracious thoughts. Thanks for sharing this experience with us b/c it broadens my daily view of the world, and yet keeps me connected. Be safe in your travels. P.S. How is the food and water situation?
Keep it coming I am loving this. I have never been a part of a blog before and this is truly great. Thank you for doing it. Enjoy and be safe. Love ya.
Glad you arrived safely Charlie .. This is a one in a lifetime experience! You are blessed to be a part of it. Thanks for sharing with everyone. Keep it coming.
YAY This is so cool...I totally wish I would have done this when I was in Italy...don't they have some good chocolate in London??? Yeah, bring some of that back for me (j/k lol)! Hope you have safe travels to your next destination, love you dad!
Buy something - or not Doesn't it suck to have a weak dollar!!!?!?! I always imagine going places where you could buy a massage, a dinner or room service for like a BUCK! I guess not! Anyway, take pictures and post em', can you do that on here?? Or if you're bored take 100's of pictures of the airport and I can turn it into a 3D model!! Anyway, safe travels Charlie!!
Buy something - or not Unlike the brits that come to Florida and spend like it was going out of style, I feel for you and our dollar!! I always imagine going places and paying a dollar for a big meal, a long massage or room service!!! Safe travels Charlie, how exciting!
Best of luck If Uganda is half as kind to you as it continues to be to me, you will find it a life experience that will be difficult to match. Please remember to savour every moment!!! To Charlies family and friends...Support him all the way. Speaking from experience, Charlies generousity of heart will have a life long and positive impact on every child he helps in Uganda(beyond anything you can ever comprehend), not to mention his own life... Be with him every step of the way!!
Let the fun - and satisfaction - begin Hi Charlie: I'm delighted you're on your way. I guarantee you'll find it to be one of the most amazing experiences of your life. If the TKL guys in Gulu are the ones I met, please give them my best wishes. I look forward to reading about your adventures.
Back to the Motherland Daddy, you know my palms are sweaty and my knees are shakey...my dad is going to Africa for two months...even though my nerves tend to make me paranoid, I am so happy for you...this is going to be one of those experiences very few get to live out and your words will not be able to describe all of the natural beauty you willl see. I can't wait to see pictures and talk about the people you met...be safe out there with the gorillas (just pretend they are uglier versions of Elando...lol) I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
