We were up very bright and early on this exciting day. I was going to be driving to Oxford and then onto Gloucester today ... or at least that is what the plan was. We had prebooked a car that we would collect near the Heathrow airport. Had already determined that I didn't want to be driving in London city at all, and the outskirts seemed like a reasonable proposition. It was a nice little car that we had hired, and with a GPS system we had no worries at all that we could do it. Getting out onto the main road was fun, and then I discovered that the windscreen wipers and indicator lights were the opposite side to what I'm used to. It meant for alot of wipers being used instead of indicators unfortunately, ... read more

After assessing Joel's blistered feet, i decided it wasn't enough to worry about due to the limited time we have in this gorgeous city. A case of toughen up Princess, and put those walking shoes back on. Now being a Harry Potter Fan, my first port of call, was checking out this Kings Cross station that is mentioned in the books. I decided to walk around its block checking it out from all angles. Ok, so maybe not the best use of time, but a couple of the really old buildings were just to die for and the round random circle things I thought were very cute, though I have no idea what on earth they are just doing there! The station itself is just beautiful. We wander around in circles I think, then eventually gave ... read more

We didn't sleep much on the plane for this overnight flight. We arrived at 5am or there abouts on what I later discovered was a Sunday morning. The thing I love about travelling is that days really become irrelevant - they are all perfect :) I was just so excited to be in England, so after we got through customs and stumbled through the airport trying to work out where the train station was, I saw the doors to the outside world! Had to go outside and see what these cold winters were all about. It was so dark outside, and the terminal looked so pretty and deserted. Little did I realise exactly how deserted it was til a touch later. We eventually bumbled down to the train station, to find the gates locked. Apparently arriving ... read more

Asia » Hong Kong December 5th 2009

Today was slightly bitter sweet. We were to leave Hong Kong in the evening to continue our trip and head to London for a few days. First stumbling block as we had a full day planned to explore Ocean Park, we getting downstairs to settle our account and put our luggage into lock up for the day was to find out that we were required to return to collect it by 4pm that afternoon, due to an influx of visitors due to the Asian games or whatever it was that was on. I wasn't exactly happy about this, as our flight was a late one from memory, so would mean sitting at the airport for too long, either that or dragging our bags around everywhere with us! Anyway ... not going to let that get us ... read more

Day 3 Already, and off to meet another exciting day. Now there is what you plan to do on a day, and what you actually do on a day. This was the type of day that the plan didn't quite work out, but, oh well had a ball anyway. I stupidly decided that from our hotel we would walk up to see the Ladies Markets, the Fish markets and Bird Markets .... quick advise, catch a train! Walking along Nathan Road, we stopped in and walked through Kowloon Park. It was so beautiful actually seeing a park. I'm such a tree kind of girl. When walking in, there were these two straight lines of little kindy kids, which was such a cute sight! I didn't take photos of these as I'm not sure taking photos of ... read more

I dont think I can begin to describe what it was like waking up that morning. Actually most mornings it was the same feeling, I am actually travelling the world! I'm sorry, I would probably sound like a total maniac, but seriously, how many mums of five children get that chance to take their eldest child at my age on a five week adventure? The fact I was actually going, still amazes me. Anyway .... Looking out the window, oh pinch myself! Unlike the totally clear skys of the previous night, the morning looked all hazy. It could be the humidity thing? Anyway after a quick chat on skype to home, we were bouncing out the door bright and early. Probably our first mistake. Hong Kong doesn't bound in the mornings. It barely wakes up til ... read more

Oceania » Australia December 2nd 2009

After 35 years, the day has finally arrived! The day I get my feet out of Australia! The previous night, I went to bed laughing kind of hysterically because over the next five weeks, it will be me and my son of 13 turning 14 and the world! We will be visiting Hong Kong, London, New York City, Paris and Rome! Alone in those massive cities! Shall be fun to see how I cope and if I can conquer them all without landing in a heap. Our first flight was an early one leaving Adelaide Airport to Sydney. It was a case of, if things aren't packed now, too bad, we are on our way! My little kids were excited I think. I was a touch mixed, as I was starting to feel a touch sick, ... read more
