A tiny bit of a background regarding this trip first. This will be my second ever overseas trip … haven’t fully completed the first epic journey I took two years ago, so really have to get onto that, however wanted to start on this one while it is still all fresh. This will be my husband and my first trip away together since we have been married and without any of our five children. Will be interesting just for that achievement. Graciously my parents will look after my bundles of joy for our trip. The trip will be for my husband’s fortieth birthday. We will be heading to Dubai for three nights before jumping about the Voyager of the Seas (Royal Caribbean) on a cruise via India and Malaysia to Singapore, where we will then have ... read more

It was our last day to see the city, and we had to pack to go home. It was so exciting to be finally heading home. As much as I had enjoyed the trip, it was just time. We headed out early, and it was only when we got to Kings Cross station (I think we walked there), that I realised I had left my scarf in the hotel room. I was in a total panic. We needed to get to platform 9 & 3quarters for Joel to have a proper shot of going through the wall. The funny thing was, as soon as he touched the cart it broke! Talk about oh man! It was wasteing precious time, but I had to go all the way back to the hotel to get my scarf. It ... read more

Our final day. It was a sad one. We parted ways with alot of new found friends before we got on the bus. Some were stopping off in Paris, some were going on further trips from here, and some were flying out directly. On the brighter side, it meant a seat per person, or close to at any rate! Heading back towards Calais, was our last European sunrise. I had a total ball with the camera (the little one, not my sony) It was a case of how many photos could I randomly take on the bus. With the sun rising, I was impressed with the results! I guess the thing that I found most beautiful was that it was snowing as we were going to the boat. Our tour started with snow and would end ... read more

Europe » France » Paris January 1st 2010

New Years Morning (otherwise known as we went out into the Paris night and made it alive for the next day). You know, all these months later it took a while to remember what the breakfast was actually like in the hotel. I really miss also that my Cosmos book was lost on the bus as I had all the wake up times listed. Breakfast was a more casual event of start when you want to, so not as formal as some of the other venues, and was a decent spread to get through the day. For the morning we had our tour of the city. This morning it was freezing. The maximum expected temperature was all of 1 degree. Was I dressed correctly yet again.... nope! Being new years day alot of the optional tours ... read more

Europe » France » Paris December 31st 2009

Waking up early wasn't hard this morning. We were heading to Paris. It was one of those impossible things and probably the icon of romance to myself and finally I was about to be there, for New Years Eve as well! The sunrise was gorgeous and I have to say in the end the countryside is kind of more of the same. It does get a touch boring on the bus (which is horrible to say, I'm in France for heavens sake!!!!) Its the cramped seats I guess, and inability to stop whenever I please to capture the scenery as I like. For lunch we arrived in a little town named Borne (pronounced Bon). Now if you are a cake person, like I am a cake person, you have now arrived to heaven, literally! I dont ... read more

Upon Leaving Menton, we made our way to Grasse, the home of perfume apparently. Now I was in one of those moods today where I guess I was just looking for trouble. We stopped at a perfume factory for another give us your money demonstration, the place was called Fragonade (I think, or similar maybe spelling wrong). When we got into the factory, we had this lovely french lady giving us a talk about perfumes and how the most important job in a perfume factory is being the "nose". She kept talking about "noses" as a profession, and I was really bad and just killed myself laughing. I felt horrible, but with her french accent and my willingness for mischief, it was a disaster. I made my way to the back of the group in total ... read more

Now this was a day I was somewhat excited about jumping up in the morning and racing out to greet! We were going to Pisa :) Its so Italianish. Ok, so I have been in Italy all this time and a bit down this day also meant heading into France towards Paris .... deep breath .... oooooooo I think it was the time I also turned into a big child! (or later in the day at any rate). Trying to remember the order in which everything happened today! Kind of frustrating, I should have taken a map with us and circled the bits I took photos of along the way. Driving from Florence to Pisa, we had to go a back way, and couldn't take the main roads due to flooding in the area. Apparently they ... read more

Ok, I admit looking to write bits and peices for this day, I did have to refer back to my photos! Shocking isn't it. My memory of the day has disolved. We were on the bus for quite alot of the day, and I'm not sure the scenery was that crash hot out of the bus. Hmmmmm The lunch stop I remember because it was yet another bus stop on the side of the road. This time we went for pasta, and seriously Italy and pasta is just stunning! This petrol station stop was also pretty cool for all the little christmas goods on sale in the way of stockings and lollies. I ended up buying some nougart (?) cos I love the stuff, and my son doesn't - yah more for me! We eventually arrived ... read more

What an adventure today turned out to be. :) We choose to go on the optional tour today, which was the tour of Capri. We had been heavily warned against trying to go to Capri and look around by ourselves as we would apparently be totally ripped off and unable to do much as it was winter. Ok .... Heading down the road to the harbor was a mini adventure in itself. At the base, the weather was a bit ordinary and windy. There were a bunch of cats by the path, which were beautiful. Not sure if they were ferral or not. There were plenty of them though. Getting on the boat, the water looked simply glorious. Such a beautiful colour and all. We boarded inside a sheltered area. The fun began as the boat ... read more

Yet another day, another bus trip :), oh and we made it down to breakfast today! Was well worth that visit to those tables as well! I really dont know what I was doing when the bus was leaving Rome. Rome seems to be such a blank to me, which is a bit sad, as I really wanted to see it. Go figure! The next part of the bus trip I remember was entering the area around Pompeii. Man alive! Seriously out of all the trip, this is known as the part I didn't actually like. I had been looking forward to this part the most so it was quite a surprise. To expand on this, I should explain. The area around Pompeii is highly populated. I mean ok, so sections of Hong Kong were massively ... read more
