Ok, after this Ben, you are doing the blog for a while! Haha. We decided to combine our 6 days in Phi Phi and 2 only two days in Phuket in one entry. But, I can't complain when I am writing about my favorite place, so far, in Thailand..Koh Phi Phi!! Such an amazing island! After our few days in Railay, we headed by ferry to Koh Phi Phi. The main island, Phi Phi Don, is where all the action is! Beautiful resorts, awesome beaches and the BEST nightlife!! Phi Phi, after the rebulid from the Tsunami, is really modern for the most part, and has a really cool European chic feel to it. And the best part about Phi Phi, just like Railay, is the small size of the island..everything is sooo compact and easy ... read more

Sadly, we had to leave all the beautiful jungle, elephants, monkeys and amazing food we found in Khao Sok behind.....to head to Railay for more animals, jungle and amazing food!!! We hopped in a minibus for 2 hours and a 10 minute longboat ride to arrive in Railay! Railay...WOW!! What a beautiful place! Railay is still on the mainland in Krabi province, but it sure doesn't feel like it!! Feels like another amazing island paradise! The part that I (brad) loved the most about Railay was how small it is! It is shaped like a V...with 3 main beach areas: at the point, Sunrise Beach (Railay East) and Sunset Beach (Railay West) of course. The swimming is only really good on the west/sunset side, the other sides are more for boats and are too mucky for ... read more

So we were sad to leave Koh Samui and the beach, but we knew we were in for a different experience of Thailand. Khao Sok (pronounced COW SOCK) National Park, one of the oldest forests and somewhere I read it was the oldest rainforest in the world because the glaciers of the last ice age never reached here like they did in the Amazon and Africa. After a ferry from Samui to Surat Thani, we met a nice irish couple at the bus stop. After chatting with them for a while we boarded ANOTHER bus from hell. It was this little mini bus to take us to the park, but the driver was quite possibly the WORST driver we've had so far, and with the crazy road rules here (no following the speed limit, ignoring the ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Ko Samui February 16th 2009

After a couple more days laying beach and poolside in Koh Phangan, we said goodbye to Mac Bay (tear) and started our adventure in Koh Samui! We had another amazing breakfast at our resort (which stayed down very nicely by the way as I (Brad) am no longer in shits-ville), bought our tickets for the ferry, and caught a cab to Thong Sala pier. This time our ferry was bigger thus a smoother ride to Koh Samui! The ferry from Koh Phangan to Samui was only about 30 minutes. Once we docked we hopped in a cab (which cost way to much!! don't use a real cab here!) to our new resort, Hi Coral Cove Bungalows. Definately use the open truck taxis, rent a vespa or a jeep (so cheap)...the real taxi charges made up fares ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Ko Pha-Ngan February 10th 2009

After a few rounds of Immodium, Gravol, Tums and lots of naps, my fever broke and I started to feel good again! Which was great because it was time for the Full Moon Party! We woke up and had a great breakfast, then spent all morning/afternoon by the pool and walking up and down the beach checking out the other resorts and beaches. We decided that we love Mac Bay so much that we are booking another couple days here! Our biggest worry is trying to find a place to buy a cheap but really nice hammock! It's going to be nearly impossible to go back to work after this! We have started researching resorts in Koh Samui for our next leg of the trip, trying to find a place on Chaweng or Lamai, said to ... read more

So I (Brad) decided that I need to make some blog entries!! After the bus/boat ride from HELL was over with, we docked at the Thong Sala pier to start our stay at Koh Phangan!! The island is BEAUTIFUL!!! There are awesome beaches, warm water, huge mountains, and beautiful rainforests! We are staying at Mac Bay resort (which we highly recommend to everyone!!) on Ban Tai beach. It's owned by a couple Aussie guys, and managed by the nicest Thai family! Such a friendly place and very cheap!. Its about 10 minutes to the pier and 10 minutes to Had Rin, the biggest/busiest beach on the island where all the parties and best shopping/eating is. It is nice staying a bit further away from the most crowded beaches, much quieter and more relaxing. Our bungalow is nice, ... read more

Today we went to see the weekend market. It was fantastic! It is one of the biggest markets of it's kind in the world with over 8000 stalls and 20000 people. Everything was organized by sections, e.g. clothes, electronics, housewares, etc. Brad and I got dropped off in the clothes section and we went crazy. Designer t-shirts for 4$!!! Ha ha ha. we did get a little lost, as there were SOOOO many stalls, I cannot even describe it. With Rio and our day to day experiences I have to say that we have gotten much better and only take cabs who use the meter, and have honed our skills at bargining! At 6 today we got on the bus to Koh Phangan for the full moon party. it was the worst ride!!!! 10 hours in ... read more

My friend Rio took us to Silom road today to show us where we would be going to the night market and the gay district. After we ate at the Noodie Bar (it's a noodle restaurant) we went and saw one of the larger parks. Unfortunately Rio had to leave us, so we checked out the night market and the gay district by ourselves! The night market and the gay district were interesting to say the least! Ask us more in person!!! ha ha! Ben and Brad... read more

So we had a crazy day of travel on the 4th! Over 20 hours of flight and a couple of hours lay over. The jet lag is still kicking our butts. But our first day in Bangkok was lots of fun. We woke up in the morning and decided to go to see the Grand Palace and two of the more famous temples. However we didn't know that they were closed for a Buddhist holiday. So a friendly local man (many of the Thai people are so nice!) got us in a tuk tuk (three wheeled motorbike/taxi things) and we went to see a couple of the smaller temples that were open to tourists still. We went to the Marble temple, where for three dollars this little thai tour guide took us around and showed us ... read more
