The joys of Italy
Glad things are going as planned. Love those Rick Steves walking tours.

Very Odd and Very Smart
Wow. Amazing plants - one looks like a helium balloon, the other like a flamingo. And I really like your idea of a tribute to the guide - very meaningful, I'm sure.

Exotic plants indeed
Thanks, they could have been from a fantasy but were right in front of me. Kudos to Giselle, but we were all happy to extoll Ollie's personality and skills.

Beach birds and pottery
Another diverse day - your tour seems like a good one. Your capture of the sand crane with its reflection in the wet sand is marvelous, as is your photo of the corn vendor. Good for you for trying to throw a pot. That makes a great story.

Sand Crane
Thanks, Isabel. I thought of your photos as I loaded it.

Wet cat
Er, sloth. You did very well to get so much activity out of your bedraggled sloth. The only ones I saw were determinedly snoozing!

Wet sloth
Thrilling to see them move about with the long toes/nails and the stretched arms/legs.

Sludge and such
I never knew you were such a mud-bath hound, even when the mud is greeny-grey sludge. Good for you. As for the butterflies (and other similarly uncooperative photographic subjects), doesn't that always seem to be the way? When you have your camera, they're not amenable; when they're amenable, you don't have your camera. I was doing the same dance with bald eagles just last week.

Sludge
Not sure about mud baths. Might has well try - much less bold than going on the zip line!

Lovely report on a lovely day
It sounds like a wonderful day, and I think that your family-based visit was better than some large-group cultural encounters I've been on, for sure. Our leader talked about how the appearance of these small holdings/farms could mislead North Americans. With no extra charges for school or health care, and with the ability to grow fruit and beans in a mixed farming environment, people with not much outside income could support a family very well.

Family visit
Lunch with Edith and Ever was the most personal cultural experience I have had.

Confidence
Thank you. I like the confidence, too.

Rafting!
This was the same river that we paddled on. It was so much fun! I arrived home Nov. 4 so maybe you are getting less rain.

Rafting
Sarapiqi is so much fun and beautiful too.

Echoes
This day was very like one of ours, in reverse. We did the hanging bridges park first (but no rain), with our guide keeping an eye out for those afraid of heights - or of being on shaking bridges over great heights, at least - and managed how many were on a bridge at one time to minimize the movement. Then those who wanted went back for optional ziplining while the others did a spa afternoon. I think your zipline operation looks a little more professional than the one we used, although we all survived. In one spot a howler monkey came running up the cable. The guide shook the cable to persuade him off into an adjacent tree (palm) and he dutifully howled at us as we went by.

Echoes
I am so glad I did not meet a howler on the cable. Not sure who would have been howling the louder!

Adventure
I just returned from a nine day adventure in Costa Rica where we did river rafting and lots of walking. I was very apprehensive about the river rafting as I'd never done that before. It turned out to be lots of fun. We were on the Sarapiqui River. We, too, were in the Arenal Volcano area but no zip lining for us. I thought your photo of a hanging bridge looked familiar. We also spent time in Monteverde--so interesting!!

Adventure
White water rafting I would do again for sure - zip lining, not so sure.

Yikes
Looks fairly sturdy....but how high is it?
