Today is going to be a very short blog post as we did very little today. We hardly have any photos to display either. We took a trip down to the Geelong area of Victoria to have a look around. However, even though we spent a fair amount of time there, we didn't do much. As mentioned in a previous post, we enjoy going to find all the mini golf courses that we can and testing them out. Well, our first stop was at a place just outside of Geelong, called Wallington. Adventure Golf Course has two courses to offer called The Mountain and The Mill. You can pay for both which is $20 for an adult. It's fairly good value. The courses are rather challenging, and entertaining in the sense that some holes have tubes ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Victoria » Philip Island January 3rd 2017

It's after midnight here, but I hate falling behind on blogs, so I have Rafael Nasal playing in the background as I type this after another very long day tour where we arrived back at our hotel around midnight. We were able to sleep in today, as the tour didn't start until midday. We were both so exhausted from yesterday's tour that we welcomed the 9 o'clock start. After we got ready we went to the shopping centre next door to buy ourselves some new shoes. Walking shoes, so we were able to spend the hours walking around. We both knew what we wanted so it was only a matter of trying them on before we purchased them. Then, back to the hotel to get our things ready for our day trip to Phillip Island. Oceania » Australia » Victoria » Great Ocean Road January 2nd 2017

This blog is written with bleary eyes, after a long 15 hour day to the 12 Apostles and back. We woke at 5:30 to get ready for our first tour of our holiday. We booked this tour after discovering a great deal. $99 with morning tea and lunch included through Sightseeing Tours Australia. Our pickup destination was St Paul's Cathedral on Flinders St. It is about a 10 minute walk from our hotel, so we didn't mind the early morning trip there. When we arrived at 6:55, we spotted a mini bus already waiting. We went over to the driver and asked if this was our bus, but apparently it wasn't. By this time, there were a few people there, but only a few people for that bus. As time went on, more and more mini ... read more

After a late night on New Years Eve and not getting to bed until after one, we had nothing planned for the morning. Very unlike us, we slept in until about 8, but didn't get out of bed until almost 9. We decided to try to breakfast the hotel had to offered, but in our opinion it was nothing special and probably not worth the $17 we spent on it. So we will stick to the food we bought. At 12 we went to see the movie Sing at Melbourne Central Hoyts. It was surprisingly good and we had a few laughs at it. It was definitely better than what we thought it would be and left feeling quite pleased. We grabbed some lunch from the food court and then headed back to our hotel where ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Victoria » Mornington Peninsula December 31st 2016

We were in no hurry to get going today as we knew we would have the whole day to spend at the Mornington Peninsula, but us being us, we were ready to leave by about 9:30. Our car is parked in valet parking at our hotel, so after getting that, we set up the GPS and hit the road onwards to Mornington Peninsula. When we left, neither of us had any idea what we wanted to do there, or where we wanted to go. Then, halfway there, Ashleigh remembered about a maze she had researched, so we put that into the GPS. This area of Victoria has many mazes, apparently, but I feel we picked the right one, as the others around are more targetted at families with small children. Ashcombe Mazes and Lavender Gardens is ... read more

We didn't stray too far from our hotel today, but that was always the plan for our first full day in Melbourne. If Albert had his way, this would be every day, but I've insisted in coming days we go a little further and do some day tours, which I am looking forward to. Most of today was spent next door at The Strand - the giant shopping centre in the centre of Melbourne. We left around 9:30, but due to the holiday period, most shops weren't open until 10. The big stores like Myer were open, and shops on the street, so we wandered there for a while. On the other side of our hotel is a 24/7 post office, which is the most convenient thing for me ever. I have been a member of ... read more

We left Canberra at approximately 8am for the long journey south to Melbourne. Although it's only about a six and a half hour journey, rest stops and torrential rain hindered what started as a pleasant trip. Of course, we knew we'd have to stop a few times along the way, but we didn't anticipate so much rain that we could barely see the car in front of us. I must say, I am very thankful for not driving on this trip. Albert was the lucky one who had to brave it. If it works, I'll post the video I took as we entered Melbourne. Streets had patches of flooding and I was on look out for giant puddles. In the end, we made it safely to our hotel. We are staying at Somerset on Elizabeth, which ... read more

Europe » Austria » Tyrol » Innsbruck January 11th 2016

I confess, today was a very lazy day for us. Our last day in Innsbruck and Austria altogether, and there wasn't much we desperately wanted to do. All that remained on our list was visiting Ambras Castle and Olympiaworld, and do a little bit of shopping. Like yesterday, we were in no hurry to leave the hotel. We had breakfast down in the restaurant again, which is expensive, but we came with a lot of money here (well, not a lot, but more than we needed) so we were able to afford the breakfast here everyday. After that, we rested up in our hotel and finished off getting ready before heading out for the bus that would take us up to Ambras Castle On our very first day in Innsbruck, I had seen a sign pointing ... read more

Europe » Austria » Tyrol » Schwaz January 10th 2016

I have absolutely no idea how people can go away for months at a time. It hasn't even been two weeks and both of us are so tired and looking forward to boarding the plane on Tuesday to come home. Not that we haven't enjoyed ourselves, but sometimes it's good to get back into normal life - working, being at home, having your own bed and not living out of a suitcase anymore. It's fascinating how people can do it for so long! Anyway, today was a late start for us, as we were slow in moving. When we first entered our hotel in Vienna almost two weeks ago, I was confused why they appeared to have air conditioning and no heating. I mean, we are in the middle of winter! We are going to need ... read more

Europe » Austria » Tyrol » Wattens January 9th 2016

I stole the title of tis blog from Albert's photo collage he posted to Facebook via his iPod - it names it himself, apparently, but it is a good enough title for what we did (or lack thereof) today. I suppose I could have included something about crystals as well, seeing as that was our whole purpose in being in the little town of Wattens. Well, technically, we weren't exactly in the town, but just outside of it. Wattens is located about a 20-30 minute drive outside of Innsbruck. It is accessible from the bus terminal as well as via train. It is nothing more than a small town with what appeared to be about 5 churches and houses built in weird places. It seems that Austrians have no rules as to where they can build ... read more
