So, I’m back in Redondo and back to reality, but I still need to fill you all in on my last couple of weeks in Costa Rica. My trip in Bocas Del Toro was coming to an end and I wanted to get back to Costa Rica and see and do a few more things that I had been planning on. I had an amazing friend that planned a way for me to get back to the north of Costa Rica by researching bus times and scheduling shuttles, but unfortunately I messed everything up by missing my first boat taxi at around 5:45am. I was so upset with myself because I not only wasted my friend’s time, I was wasting valuable daylight. It ended up taking me over 14 hours to travel from Panama to La ... read more

Puerto Viejo was fun, but it was the only place that I really didn´t feel that safe walking around town at, plus my last night there I got attacked by mosquitoes. The last time my legs looked so red, bumpy, and disgusting was when I had chicken pox. It was gross. The best part of my Caribbean adventure was definitely traveling down to Panama. I met someone at Rocking J´s in Puerto Viejo who gave me step by step instructions on how to get across the border by bus. My first time taking a public bus by myself and I´m doing it in Central America, got to love it. When I got to the border I was so confused by what to do. Local men were just giggling together and yelling ¡chica! ¡chica! at me so ... read more

After leaving Tamarindo, I traveled down to Jacó to see the finals of a national surf contest that was going on that weekend. I met up with friends from Arenal and spent the days down at Playa Hermosa checking out the competition and at night, went out in Jacó. Besides all of the hookers, going out in Jacó was like any other beach town. I was with good company so it was all a good time anyways. The surfers were amazing though. Every one of them caught waves with such ease, doing hard cutbacks and catching air more often than not. It was great entertainment. I had such a great time in La Fortuna that I decided to catch a ride back after the contest and do some of the things I missed out on before. ... read more

Once my dad dropped me off at Arenal Backpackers in La Foruna, I was a little nervous to be on my own, but it turns out, making friends is easy. I put on my bathing suit right away and laid out by the pool with my book and a beer. A couple from Santa Cruz immediately came up and started talking to me because I was wearing my San Francisco Giants hat. They invited me to go to Baldi hot springs with them so I instantly had something to do that night. The hot springs were amazing. There were countless pools ranging in degrees of temperature and even a few water slides. There was a sign that said “no lifeguard on duty, go at your own risk,” and for good reason too. The fastest slide shot ... read more

A lot has happened this past week. It has been difficult to connect to the internet on my computer, so I’ll try not to leave anything out now…however, it may take a few entries to get up to speed with everything. Tuesday my dad and I rented a car and drove out to Jacó from our hotel in San Jose. On our way out there, my handy dandy travel book gave us a tip to stop at a bridge that passes over the Río Tárcoles. We pulled over the car and walked out onto the bridge to see a huge population of crocodiles. We counted as many as 30 crocodiles laying out on the river banks and floating in the water. It was amazing and I’m glad my dad noticed that section in the book; otherwise ... read more

Wow…I don’t even know where to begin. The past couple of days have been very eventful. I finally got to see the Costa Rica I have always imagined. My dad and I have been having an amazing time. Yesterday we went white water rafting! Yeah, I know…crazy. The Pacuare River (Río Pacuare) is a gorgeous, completely natural, and constantly changing river. It is located on the east side of the country where its Atlantic slope begins in the Talamanca mountain range and runs approximately 108km into the Caribbean Sea. Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures because everything gets soaked. The river and everything surrounding it was incredibly beautiful. There are waterfalls on both sides of the Pacuare spewing crystal clear, fresh water from around 30 feet above us. We wo... read more

My trip has finally begun! It's always shocking to look back and realize how fast time actually does fly. My dad and I arrived in San Jose, Costa Rica early this afternoon. The flight was awesome for a couple of reasons: 1. My dad has so many frequent flyer miles United upgraded us both to first class for both lengths of the flight! Free booze, free meals, and free Direct TV. (Ballin'!) 2. The views from my fancy first class window seats were incredible! It was my first time flying over the Gulf of Mexico and it was beautiful! At first I thought we were going to be flying over open waters for the majority of the time, but as soon as that semi-disappointing thought crossed my mind out from the bottom of my window I ... read more
