I visited Kazan many times and had many walks there. I usually go to St. Petersburg via Kazan by train. I like this city, because I feel comfortable there. I mean, in the centre, I haven’t been in other areas. My first visit there was in May 2009, when I was going to Kursk, and on my way I had two stops in Kazan and Moscow. It was extremely fine to start walking at 6 o’clock in the morning, with almost no people in the streets and lovely atmosphere, the sun was shining and the sky was blue. I did not use any transport for moving in the city, because the train station is in the centre and major attractions are also there. But I did go by metro one time and by bus, only because ... read more

Kharkov and Kiev 21-30 June Day 1 Yanaul - Moscow, about 20 hours, by train. This time I go to Kharkov and Kiev for no other occasion than to see Tiesto again, the mighty dj, dance and have some walks round the cities. Especially Kiev, photos of which are on a broken hard disk drive which needs to be repaired. May be you will hear about that first trip later. I started early in the morning. I like when a train trip starts early in the morning, it means one can sleep for at least some hours due to tiredness. I hope you forgive me if my English is not quite authentic in some phrases. I laid almost during the whole day, listening to my player. My earphones got broken, but we reached Kazan after midday, ... read more

Yesterday I came from my one-day trip to Samara, one of Russian cities on the Volga River. It takes 8 hours by train there and back, I had seats, 371 roubles one way, very cheap. I have already said that I hate people who make noise in trains after the midnight, and this time I enjoyed noise during the whole night so much I could even sleep! It was horrible, the young men were shouting like stupid all night long. I suppose they were idiots. Of course, there’s that crap about being young and joyful, and stuff, but if I were not a humble guy I think I would beat someone that night. There must be peace after the midnight, so that people could sleep. I came to Samara exhausted and sleepy and angry. Samara Train ... read more

Yesterday I and my friend had a walk from Birsk, my native town, to Sosnovy Bor - a place located some 15-18 km from the city. I had the idea of making foot walks in the roundabouts of my town not long ago, and yesterday this plan was completed. There was no need to go on foot from Sosnovy Bor back, we drove in a car, which took some 15 minutes only, while the walk itself took about 4 hours. Sosnovy Bor is a picturesque place on the bank of River Belaya. There used to be a children's camp and a rest home there. Now everything seems to be abandoned, there is no sign of cheerful life as it used to be in 2008, for example. I worked in Sosnovy Bor as child leader in 2004 ... read more

Europe » Belgium » Brussels-Capital Region » Brussels April 5th 2010

Going back in time again; almost a year ago I have made this big trip (for me, two weeks is a big trip), during which I saw some bits of the Belgium capital – Brussels. The trip took place of April 5, 2010, after a most exciting stay in Warszawa, Paris, and Amsterdam and Utrecht. I was browsing the Ryanair website and randomly searched for the price of flight from Brussels to, say, Wroclaw. I found it to be very cheap, so I decided that, after seeing Amsterdam and partying, I would visit Brussels for several hours, and then fly to Warszawa. I would return to Poland because one is expected to spend the most days in the country, for which Shengen visa was issued (I had the Polish Shengen visa), and was afraid that somehow ... read more

Utrecht 02/04, Luminosity before the Energy and Trance Energy 03/04 Preliminary note: Luminosity Before the Energy is held before the main event, Trance Energy (this year called Energy, I wasn’t there). More information about that will be in the first blog of this series. I will not give further information because I don’t know about anyone’s music tastes and care little about those tastes. I’m complete egoist about music and parties, I always go alone and immerse myself into the light and the rhythm. My initial mistake was that I thought 03/04 to denote TWO days of Trance Energy and somehow one day was left without a booked hotel, which, as I would learn soon, would have some heavily disastrous consequences. The second figure denoted the month, actually. On April 2 I had rather a long ... read more

31-03 I came to Amsterdam by Eurolines bus from Paris for quite a low price as compared to train or air tickets. I enjoyed the trip immensely because the bus was very convenient and I slept during almost the whole 8 hours. I had to be early in the morning at Gallieni Bus Station, so that’s why I slept. At the Gallieni a woman asked me to fill in (anonymously) some questionnaire for tourists which I did with pleasure. There were many stops during the trip, of which I remember only Brussels and Breda. Perhaps we also passed Rotterdam, I am unsure. The bus arrived at the Amsterdam Amstel Station. I found a tourist help desk and asked for a map and how I could get to the Trianon Hotel. I took the tram as they ... read more

Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris March 28th 2010

28.03.2010 I cannot think of a better title for this narrative except the one taken from Hemingway’s book. Certainly, being in this city is a genuine feast. I spent only two and half days in Paris. Of course, one might spend the whole life exploring this city and its life, but I only wanted to have a glimpse of Paris for the time being. After having a most pleasant walk in Warszawa in the first half of the day, I flew to Paris. I arrived at about 5 o’clock in the afternoon. In the Charles de Gaulle Airport I asked for information in poor French, ‘comment va-t-il a la centre?’ or words to that effect. The woman at the information desk explained everything to me in great detail, though I seemed to grasp only the main ... read more

Warszawa Time flies by and 2012 is already close, but Alexander has not yet completed the narration of past journeys. It’s all laziness. I’m madly in love with Wodehouse books, intending to buy them all, no matter what they cost. I found them in Nepal, in St. Petersburg, and now I’m ordering them from Amazon. The story about Warszawa evokes dear emotions in me, though the journey started as far back as 26.03.2010. Now, some circumstances prevent my wanderings here and there; I’m generally between two cities, St. Petersburg and Birsk, and did not visit any new countries since the trip to Serbia. The idea is to save up as much money as I can for a certain purpose. But I’m thinking over plans to visit some Russian cities not far from St. Petersburg and also ... read more

This is a story about how I fell in love with a country at first sight. I will try and write a short story about each photo. I will give numbers to photos and a short description. However, most part of that trip was not spent in Abkhazia… but in Sochi. We’ve already seen Sochi, so now my attention will be focused almost completely on the three days in Abkhazia. Let’s make four parts: part I - Arrival to Sochi, part II - two days in Abkhazia, part III - staying in Sochi, part IV - a whole-day excursion to Abkhazia. Don’t try to find Abkhazia on Google Maps. There’s only Georgia there. Abkhazia is a partly recognized country. I again will refer you to some trustful source of factual information to read about its history, ... read more
