Dear All Greetings! This is my final entry on my two mini trips taken over the Christmas holidays, and it will write up about my lovely little time in lovely little Liechtenstein! As mentioned, my aim this winter is to cover my three remaining micro-states of Europe, and thus whilst in Austria, I hopped over the little border from Feldkirch in the very west of Austria to spend two lovely days in the tiny principality of Liechtenstein. I didn't expect it to be as big as it was if I'm honest, as after recently visiting really tiny Monaco at just under a square mile in size, Liechtenstein is actually quite a bit bigger in comparison at 61 square miles. When I told my Air BnB hostess there that I was planning to visit all three major ... read more

Dear All Greetings, and a Happy New Year to all reading this! May it be filled with lots of new adventures and travels for the year ahead! I am writing another couple of blog entries to relate another mini trip I took over the Christmas holidays, this one after Christmas and around the New Year itself. After a lovely little time in the tiny principality and micro-state of Europe, Monaco, and the Cote d'Azur of France, I was heading off this time for another lovely little time in the Tyrolean Alps of Austria and another tiny principality and micro-state of Europe, Liechtenstein! My theme for my winter travels is covering the micro-states of Europe, as well as aiming to visit every European country - not long to go now! Thus, on New Year's Eve itself, I ... read more

Dear All After a really amazing start to my pre-Christmas mini-trip to Monaco and the south of France, I bade farewell to my time in the second smallest country in the world, as I headed towards a bus stop for a bus which would take me back to France. My apartment building was right at the top of the Monaco mountain side, and I was pretty much heading straight down to the central Place d'Armes - there were so many steps down, and I really couldn't imagine doing the route in reverse. My knees were aching not long into this step-filled journey, and this was just going down! I could have taken the train again back to Nice, but had read about this amazing bus connection, which at 1.5 euros was not only a serious bargain, ... read more

Dear All Greetings! It doesn't feel too long ago since I was last travelling, and now I'm back again after a lovely little mini pre-Christmas break, to visit my 85th country. After returning from Scandinavia in August, I realised that I only have 10 countries to go before I can say I've done Europe! Three of these countries actually belong to the little group known as the six "micro-states" of Europe - I've already been to Malta, the Vatican City and Andorra, and thus for my following three mini-trips, I planned to cover the remaining three. First up was Monaco, and just as the Christmas holidays began, I was packing my bag and heading for four nights to the south of France. On the Saturday, I flew from London Gatwick to lovely Nice Cote d'Azur airport, ... read more

Dear All Greetings once more, on this my final entry for my amazing trip this summer. I write this one on my fantastic final few days on this summer adventure exploring Viking lands, and they turned out to be a wonderful wrap up to this journey. I was tired and ready to go home, but still had just that little bit of travel energy within me to explore and enjoy my final few sights. On a cool, crisp and seriously windy Monday morning, I left lovely Grundarfjörður behind and set off on my last car journey on this epic Icelandic road trip, heading southwards to Reykjavík, but with a stop off in lovely little Borgarnes along the way. This was a nice little town, in a dramatic location on a peninsula jutting out into the ocean ... read more

Dear All Greetings, in my penultimate entry on my amazing travels through Nordic lands this last summer. I believe I last wrote after having really enjoyed my time exploring the off-beat lands of the Westfjords. In this one I write about my time in the really quite remarkable Snæfellsnes peninsula - this was another wonderful place. I felt a cool vibe as soon as arrived in this unique part of Iceland. The Snæfellsnes peninsula is a long piece of land extending around fifty miles off the west side of mainland Iceland, with a backbone of a mountainous range of peaks, culminating in the amazing, snow- and glacier-covered dormant volcano of Snæfellsjökull on its westernmost tip - the place was gorgeous. I was particularly excited to be there as it is the location of the journey to ... read more

Dear All I write up this blog entry from my time in the amazing Westfjords of Iceland. I certainly had a unique time there, and it was very much off-the-beaten tourist track, which I always like. The Lonely Planet says that only around 10% of visitors to Iceland make it to this part of the country, and it is well off the beaten Ring Road circuit. It was wet, windy, rugged and wild, and I had a highly enjoyable three days there. This is the part of Iceland which looks like someone has added an octopus or a squid to its north-western edge, with tentacle-like peninsulas running off in all sorts of directions. It looks amazing on a map, and I was intrigued to visit. I was not disappointed - the area was separate and seemingly ... read more

Dear All Greetings once more from my Nordic travels this summer. I am very much settled back in the UK now, but I am continuing to publish my blog entries after an epic summer adventure in northern lands. This entry relates my further adventures in northern Iceland, after having already seen a blue whale, mind-blowing rock formations and volcanic lunar-like landscapes. It was pretty amazing so far, and it continued to be. I was particularly excited waking up this Tuesday morning in the middle of August, as my driving was to take me to the city of Akureyri (pronounced "Aku-weh-ree"), Iceland's second largest. It had been a while since I was in a large urban area - Torshavn back on the Faroe Islands was probably my most recent sizeable one a week earlier, but at 13,000 ... read more

Dear All Oh my goodness! I can honestly say now, with days of evidence in hand, that Iceland is just amazing!! During the first couple of days of my Iceland Ring Road road trip, I had the most amazing time exploring some seriously wondrous locations in the north of this magnificent country. It was just amazing, with each day bringing on something completely different and equally stunning! It was just amazing! Upon leaving East Iceland, I actually felt a little sad to say goodbye to the host of the farmstead where I was staying. He was such a nice, wise and well-travelled guy. He enjoys his solitude on the farm, but also enjoys meeting his visitors when they come during the summer. I felt a connection with him. Still, it was good to move on and ... read more

Dear All This blog entry sends greetings from Iceland! When I arrived in this amazing country, I couldn't quite believe I was there. It is one of those mythical places you often read or hear about, but never imagine being able to visit. I felt the same about Japan, the Galapagos Islands, and now this remarkable island! I had it very much confirmed during my first few days, even hours there, that it is indeed a stunning and beautiful place. I loved my first few days there, and was so excited to explore more! In my last blog entry, I was drying off in my very cosy Air BnB in Hoyvík, back in the Faroe Islands, with the central heating on full blast drying off everything I was wearing and carrying on that soggy day.
