Hi Kathy! Thank you for reading and enjoying my blogs! It always makes me happy when I get a comment from you because they are encouraging and funny!
Take care,
Ali
HI! Good to here from you and your suggestions. Have you been to Liberia? I would love to go and have been in touch with some organizations there, if you have any suggestions on where to work there it would be much appreciated. Sorry you've had bad run ins with Allisons, but we're not all alike. I only go by Ali. I tend to write long blogs per requests of my family and friends that I can't generally stay in contact with because of bad phone connections and crappy internet. But thank you for your comments, they are very much appreciated. Take care!
You should check out Liberia. Hey,
I have only just started reading you blog and I already have sugestions for you. First of all, is that you need to see some of the most green parts of west Africa.
The next one is that you should write shorter postings.
May be you wont reply
I have met a lot of Allisons and they are most of the time snobs, but hopefully you are not and I will get some response from you on my concerns and sugestion.
I must say this posting of yours was good.
I love It! I love your blog. My husband is from gambia and I might be able to go visit in December for the first time. Yayyy! Kepp fingers crossed! Keep writing please! I dig around for anything about Gambia all the time and I love getting personal views of "back home". By the way are your from the US? If you are I have questions in regards to flights. Thanks!
HA Love your blogs beyond words. This was a laugh out loud for a while. Tell your Gambian neighbors of April Fools Day, just love the trickster games. Also your brother's random surprises. We have some similar traditions in the Oxenreiter household, we like to buy strange little flea market figures for 10 cents or so and hide them in peoples shoes or soccer bags or in a surprising pose somewhere. Classic!!!
Hi Alexsandra:
I'm sorry it has taken me so long to get back to your message. I would like to talk with you more about your ideas for your film. Also, If you have any specific questions for me you would like answered feel free to ask. The best way to get to me is through email, ali.chandler@gmail.com. Thank you so much for reading and your interest. I look forward to talking with you soon.
Laura's mom Hey there Allie,
Enjoying your blog quite a lot. Glad you survived your bout with malaria, quite a scary thought to me. And commend you for your passion for life in the Gambia and stepping out of the expected path that a lot of people take when raised in a society like ours that treasures accumulating things that don't nourish a person's soul in the least. Your last topic of communication reminds me of one of my favorite songs (by Keith Whitley, also redone by Alison Krauss) "when you say nothing at all"
Alli, you should write as a career. I just read like 6 entries in a row, and maybe it's because I already lived there, but I just could feel like I was there, and you can just convey everything perfectly. Miss you and mbaa nga am jama rek.
Hello :) Hey! I am doing a research about Gambia for my final project and I found your travelblog! It is so interesting to read first hand experience from there.
I subscribed to your blog :)

AH! yo bizz it's Renee. You're talking about MY PLACE Podium Pub!! Were you talking about Paul?? Paul Gomez that is. If it is Paul, please tell him that Ramatoulie is coming back to the Gambia in the fall and I am looking forward to seeing him. Much appreciated love!!
When I was in Mexico I would often think thoughts that started with, "When I get back to real life...". It took me a while to realize that, No, this IS real life. This is as real as it gets, and it is no more or no less real than life back "home." It's just life, and it's not stopping or slowing down for anyone.
That may or may not have anything to do with what you said here but I thought I would share it all the same. Hope you're doing well, Ali. See you this summer?
This is my "journal" through my second stint in The Gambia (West Africa). Brutally honest and forthright, I'm trying to let people into my real life and experiences in Africa. In the words of Stephen Colbert, in his beautifully genius book "I am America (and so can you)"...
I laughed,
I cried,
I lost 15 pounds,
I highly reccomend this book.
Here's about me in a nutshell. I love laughter. I lick the lids of jello-pudding snacks. I believe in sugar, not sugar substitute. I'm not a hippy, I'm a "non-conformist". I hate feet. I have an irrational fear of whales and deep water. Music explor... full info
