Uraaaaaaa! Finally caught up with your travels! Adam, Laura,
I am in the bus from NYC to DC - finally a moment to catch up with your adventures. The bus is slowing down so I look to see whether there are some antillopes or other cattle block the road... Uuups, you just made me day dreaming - i see the endless red lights of weekend traffic and wished I was going somewhere nice and exotic, somewhere where the bus will not have wireless internet and there would be no way we could be watching "The Bounty Hunter" on HD.
Thank you for sharing your explorations. I am very proud of you and happy that I get to follow you around the world. Keep making us dreaming, my dears. I promise to catch up on Laura's blog shortly, although to be honest the likelihood of me needing traffic safety info for Africa or anywhere in the world is slim to none... Hate driving, metro, baby, that is what I care for.
Hugs,
Anna
Capetown and Stellenbosch I am glad you sent that note that jolted me to read both blogs. Capetown brings back memories of a difficult time in S.A. history. I had taken to cable car up to the Table Top mountain. It was a beautiful site on one hand, looking at Capetown below and the Atlantic Ocean, but on the other .'hand, we saw the island where Nelson Mandela was jailed. The year was 1978. I saw signs saying 'no blacks allowed on this beach.' So as I have read from you, the 'times they are a changn.' I see that you went down to the Cape of Good Hope, not a big beach as I remember, but from the top of the hill is the point where the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean come together sometimes peacefully and sometimes not. I clearly remember seeing a not so straight line where the two collided with each other causing turbulence or swirling of the waters.
Stellenbosch is beautiful and it is the place where I was trying to remember for you to stop at. So I am happy that you did. There was a church, I believe, which had all its' windows with stained glass. Back then, during riots, the windows had to be protected with a bullet-proof type of covering. I love S.A. wines.
Laura, I really fine your blog interesting, since health education and prevention has been forte. So when you visit with people, I am curious about what they learn in school or elsewhere about alcohol and HIV.
Looking forward to your next entries. MM
Wow! Adam,
Your trip sounds amazing thus far. I didn't know it would include marathons. What an adventure. I can't wait to see the pictures from your next stop. Take care out there!
DNA testing Franklin did the DNA testing a few years back. His mother said they were Sephardic and I said they were pure biblical stock who never left the middle east. The test showed I was right. 2000 years in Babylon. With a heritage like that it is amazing that he turned out to be such a traveller.
White Russians- good choice! It seems like the absolute most random drink to pick under the circumstances. I like the image though; especially with the tree houses all around. Almost oki like in a sense :)
and hey, congrats on the run! That's fantastic, especially considering the lack of training. Muscle memory right!? Stay healthy and good luck along the next leg. Sounds like you and Laura are doing great.
Cheers,
-LB (Alyssa)
Lesotho's pub Thanks for posting about your travels. I've enjoyed following you on your adventures. I was in SA and Lesotho last October, and if you're planning on driving up the southern pass into Lesotho in a regular passenger vehicle, you can forget it. The road was extremely bumpy when I went up, and we had some difficulty with a few sections in a 4WD.
The highest pub was fun, especially since it was freezing up there and the pub was really warm and cozy. Once you continue up the road past several of the rondavels, you'll climb to a wonderful view point back down on the valley.
Take care!
Matt
Interesting Hey guys,
It's great to follow your travel stories and learn from your experiences. Mozambique sounds particularly interesting. Send some pics.
BTW did I mention that DC is boiling with temp soaring to 110F. You guys are lucky to be out of here.
Love

Nice pics! I like the pics you posted! Looks like you had a nice farewell reception. Wish I had been there. I was surprised to see a picture of myself online-I remember you explaining the Chinese letters prior to taking the picture.
An article suggesting that all the vuvuzelahs are a bit much. What's your view?

your pics & blog Its my first time visiting your blog since you first set it up. I like all of the pics. They look great! I can't wait to see your pics of South Africa!
Touched! Hey guys,
I am touched to read this entry. Glad you did not take anything to heart. It was a crazy time for Jake and I too. Good news! Jake got a new job so no sucky insecure consultancy anymore.
Great to know you guys are having so much fun.

A lot of great stories! What interesting adventures you've had! Must have been awkward riding in a car with a guy whose punishment was to take you back to where you were staying. Enjoy the World Cup games.
Stampede at World Cup I see there was a stampede outside the gates during a World Cup warm up. http://msn.foxsports.com/other/story/world-cup-fans-stampede-stadium-gates-6510?GT1=39002
I almost got caught in a stampede once. Try not to get next to a wall, fence, or for goodness sake, not a plate glass window. That's where I was once when a crowd stampeded. I felt it move.......
