We started off the day in Kansas City. First we had breakfast at the Waffle House, then headed over to the Harley Davidson Assembly plant. We didn't go on the tour, we just wanted to grab a couple of souvenirs for the kids on our last day. Then it was off to home. We happened to stop for gas just south of Des Moines, IA. It also happened to be on the edge of Madison County. We decided to take a quick detour and visit some of the bridges over by Winterset. We also saw the birthplace of John Wayne which happens to be in Winterset, IA also. After getting back on the road, we high tailed it the rest of the way home. Well that is our vacation. I hope you all enjoyed keeping up ... read more

We headed out from Memphis at 9:00 in the morning for a nice drive through the Ozarks. We headed over to Little Rock on I40 and then went North on US 65. It was a nice drive, with lots of scenic views, but it was the wrong time of year to be going. Everything was still brown from winter. I don't know if it would be better during the summer or fall due to the fact that there are way too many deciduous trees along the road, and if they are in full leaf, then you wouldn't be able to see much anyway. I do think that they need to create one or two scenic turn outs so that you can safely stop to take pictures of the views. We stopped in the afternoon at the ... read more

We started the day out by having breakfast at our hotel, the Best Western Galleria. They offer a free hot breakfast bar. Then Rhonda's brother Rick picked us up, and we headed out to Graceland. Let me tell you, I am not and Elvis fan, I do like some of his songs, but I am not a huge fan. I have to say this is a must see. After visiting, I have a new respect for the man and his music. We spent the $34 each to see take the Platinum tour, which gave us access not only to the mansion, but also to the cars and planes. I had seen the tour of Graceland on CMT, but it is not the same as seeing it in person. We were there for about 2 hours. Then ... read more

I'm a little late getting this entry in, but we we out late last night. We left St. Louis at about 9:00 in the morning and headed to Memphis. On the way, we stopped for lunch at Lambert's in Sikeston, MO. It was a pretty cool place, the portions were huge, and this is the place where they walk around with side dishes and serve them family style. They also throw the rolls to anyone who wants one. Then we headed in to Memphis to our hotel. After getting a little rest, we headed out to dinner with Rhonda's brother Rick. He took us to a place called Rafferty's. Al and I both had the catfish, Rhonda had some pasta, and Denise had a chicken breast. The food was really good there too. Then we headed ... read more

After the Brewery tool we decided to go to Pappy's Smoke House for an early dinner. We got a little lost on the way, and ended up going almost all the way to Fenton, but that was ok. It's fun to drive around and explore different areas. The food was pretty good. The Brisket and the Sausage Links were great, but I thought the pork was a little dry. The sauces that they serve on the side are awesome. After dinner we drove down to the Arch. This was cool, but I wish that the information on it would have mentioned that it closes at 6:00, and the last trips up to the top go at 5:00. We didn't get there until 5:30, so we didn't get to go up into the Arch. The museum was ... read more

We got to the Anheuser-Busch Brewery at about Noon, and started our Beermaster tour at 12:30. This was awesome. We got to see the entire brewing process, from brewing to bottling, and even the Stables. We didn't get to see the Clydesdales in Full tack, but that's ok, we did get to drink a glass of Budweiser straight out of the Finishing Barrels. These are the tanks that hold the finished beer that is being sent down to the bottling lines. It is so worth the $25 for this tour of the brewery.... read more

We started out this morning kinda early. Everyone was up by 7:00. (Damn Jennie-O time) After getting ready, Denise and Al walked over to Krispy Kreme (it's 1/2 a block from the hotel) and got some doughnuts while Rhonda and I got ready. Then we went downstairs for a small breakfast. We headed out and hit the K-Mart to pick up some supplies, then headed into town to drive around and check things out before our tour of Anheuser Busch. We stopped at the Lemp Mansion, and walked around that area for a while. There were some really cool old places, and we took a bunch of pictures. Then we headed over to the Brewery for our tour. ... read more

We went out to Dinner at Pennies BBQ here in St. Louis. It's located at 4265 Reavis Barracks Rd. We originally planned on going to the url=http://www.ironbarley.com/ Iron Barley , but they were closed on Sunday. It's actually a good thing, because this place does not appear to be in the greatest of neighborhoods, and we would have had to park several blocks away. We drove around a little, and had thought about heading back to the hotel to see what they had when I decided to take the Reavis Barracks Rd exit. During this Time, Al had turned on the GPS, and was doing a local search for BBQ places. Pennies was the first one on the list, and it happened to be on the exit I had taken, less than a block away.
