Cleaned up the living room from last nights antics, then bought our bus tickets from the 7-11 and travelled to Bondi Beach. Had Fishcakes and salad in a Seafront café then spent a few hours sleeping on the beach. The weather wasn’t so great today, it was a bit cloudy and cold, and the only rain cloud in the sky was right above us. Crackin. We were disappointed not to see any action on the beach. It's said to be the busiest and most famous beach in the world, and there’s a TV show called Bondi Rescue that suggests the Lifeguards save loads of people every day; as well as dealing with Sharks, Injured people, Missing Children and Drunks. But we didn't see a bean! We heard a siren and scouted the beach in hope it ... read more

Went for a late breakfast in Randwick with Steph and Ellie - had the best Raisin Toast in the world…. ever! Paid $18 for an All Day bus and ferry pass. We went past loads of people in the parks eating Al Fresco with their friends or reading books on their lunch-hour. At home I not many people sit in parks even in nice weather, unless maybe when they're with friends. Over here it’s so much more common to see people sat on their own, or exercising in the sunshine. Got in to the city centre then walked to Sydney Harbour to board our ferry to Manly, which is about 30 minutes away. Walked round some of the shops on the main pedestrian street, then went for lunch along Manly beach, which is full of cafés ... read more

Our alarm went off at 3.40am for our flight up the East coast to Sydney. We got on the Sky Bus then had coffee and a breakfast pastie at Melbourne airport. I'm reading a book at the moment, which makes me question silly things I've always presumed. I realised I'd spent a good ten minutes contemplating whether boys really only wash their "pits and bits" as suggested by this book, or whether they wash their arms and legs like women do. This thought provoking book is taking me ages to read! Our plane was tiny in comparison to what we've been used to recently and the turbulence was really bad. Ellie was half asleep throughout the flight, and when we landed with a deafening bump her eyes shot open and she gripped my arm, her nails ... read more

Chilled with Ellie, Graeme and Steph all day at the apartment. We went to St Kilda festival yesterday and Steph and Graeme hadn't had a chance to enjoy Valentines Day, so they decided to go out for dinner tonight to make up for it. Ellie and I agreed we'd cook something lovely for tea and have a romantic night in! She made me King Prawn Linguine, which was fab, and we watched films for the rest of the evening. I've totally loved being in Melbourne, and in a way I'm sorry to be leaving for Sydney tomorrow. But the adventure continues and Steph is joining us up the coast for nearly two weeks, which will be great fun. I ended up staying awake until 1am... then had to be up in less than 3 hours for ... read more

We all got ready in our new outfits for the festival. I'd bought a black dress with skulls on which reminded me of Alexander McQueen's designs. I bought it a few days ago, spookily, the day he died. Claire met us at the flat and we all got on the Tram to St Kilda. Everywhere was heaving! The St Kilda festival had a mixture of music and sport events going on: on the beach, fields and streets in the town. Had lunch at The Street Cafe, a great Chicken Chiabatta with Mango Mayo, then walked through the crowds and over a bridge to the Main Stage. We went past a silent Disco, where everyone was dancing with headphones on. It looks funny to people passing by, as you can't hear the music they're dancing to. The ... read more

Woke up on Steph's sofa with a fever. I felt so cold and was shivering, but my skin felt boiling hot. Graeme went off to work and said I could jump in to bed with Steph who had the aircon on, but I think that would have made me worse, so I chose to stay put. A few hours later, I vom'd like a trooper and felt instantly better. Spent the day with the girls, lying on beanbags and watching 'Sex And The City' repeats. We made chips with sour cream and salsa, an old favorite of mine and Stephs. Graeme came home from work at 3.30. People in the construction industry seem to go to work earlier and finish earlier than back home, and they also have every other Monday off work! Lucky them. We ... read more

Went shopping on my own to the DPO center in Melbourne this morning. Stopped at Starbucks first (why does their coffee taste so crap!) then hit the shops. It was nice to stroll around, not in a rush to search for something in particular. Usually when I NEED to buy something (shoes to go with an outfit, or a birthday present for a friend) I have great difficulty. My current Sophie Kinsella book (Twenties Girl) is frustratingly boring, so I picked up a new one in the Mens section (fancied a change) and went to Gloria Jean's Coffee house to read for the rest of the morning. Sat on a leather armchair by the window opposite Southern Cross station. I read a few chapters, then looked up to observe my fellow coffee drinkers: People reading the ... read more

I had bought a 65litre backpack in December for my trip, which also had a 15litre day sack attached that you zip on and off. I seem to have collected quite a lot along the way, so when I was in Cambodia I bought an extra day sack to stop my backpack from splitting. After routing through my stuff this morning, I realised how much I could do without, so to lighten the load I decided to pay for a courier to send things home. Steph and Ellie came with me to the Post office and I sent a box to my Mam. It cost me over $100 but it means my backpack won't be as heavy and I know the items (which have sentimental value) will make it home safely. We walked to the tram ... read more

Woke up at 11am and got in Steph's bed for a natter. Steph, Ellie & I picked up ingredients for a picnic which we ate at the Park opposite. Crystal popped round for an hour in the afternoon, then the 3 of us got ready and walked along the River Yarra to South Bank where all the trendy bars and restaurants are. The sky was a swirl of pretty reds and pinks as the sun set for the evening. I admired the wonderful, modern glass buildings and unusual urban art along the way. All the bars and restaurants were busy despite it only being a Wednesday. There seems to be no hint of a recession in Melbourne. We stopped for a glass of wine in World bar and lay on their comfy leather sofas. At 10pm ... read more

We were up by 10.30am and collected supplies from local shops before heading off on the Tram to St Kilda beach. We chose a quiet spot and Steph introduced us to two of her friends, Brittany and Linda. After a few hours on the beach, we went round the shops in St Kilda which has a trendy Bo-Ho vibe, and had Pizza for lunch in a bar overlooking the busy street. That evening, Steph poured us a glass of Passion Pop each while we got ready, then we went to 'The Ritz for Backpackers', a popular Guesthouse, to meet her girl friends. The living area was heaving with young chatty travellers, and drum and bass music pumped out of speakers in a nearby dorm. We crammed ourselves in to Linda's room, which was already filled with ... read more
