Set our alarms so Ellie could be out by 9am to collect her bag from her friend Tim. He owns a fabulous resort in Ko Samui and we'd thought it would be safer getting it delivered there rather than our Guesthouse, but over the last few days we've got to know the family here at Beach Bungalows and they're such nice people. They're so kind to their pets (they even own the dog that layed an egg) and all of them have been so helpful. While Ellie was at Tim's, I took a walk around Lamai and visited a shop that sold wonderful carved vases, picture frames, Buddha's etc. I'd love to kit my flat out in Teak wooden furnature; low cusions and silk tapestry, but apparently it's really expensive to send things home. It is ... read more

Woke up at 9.30 still drunk, so we decided to get some more sleep until 2pm. Had a Pancake filled with banana, pineapple and watermellon for lunch at Beers Bungalows, then El went to ring Bangkok airport to find out where her case was. The idiots said it's been sat at Ko Samui airport since the 2nd of January - apparently they didn't have an address to send it to (I was there the other day when she'd given it them) so instead of contacting her through one of the many phone numbers we've given, they did nothing. I was fuming. They've been so unhelpful, but at least it will finally be delivered to Ellie's friend Tim today. Chilled on the beach for a few hours, then headed back to our room to get ready for ... read more

Our alarm went off at 9am. We packed up and left the hostel with our Dutch room mate who shared a cab with us to the next town in Ko Samui called Lamai. Had a fruit sald with yogurt for breakfast at a Beach restaurant called Beer's Bungalows and agreed with the owner for us to rent a room for 300THB (about 6quid between me and Elllie). We noticed how much cheaper Lamai is to Chaweng - fruit shakes are nearly half the price. Our room has a comfy double bed with clean bedding and towels, and a great fan to keep us cool so we were really chuffed. Sunbathed on the beach which is much smaller than Chaweng. The shops and bars aren't as upmarket either, but we're loving how cheap it is. Had Tom ... read more

Me & Ellie wanted a full day in the sun so we got up at 9.30am. Chatted to the foreign people we were sharing a room with. Two of them were deaf so we tried to act out what we were saying which made them laugh. The third person wasn't deaf so she was able to help us explain. We saw a Thai man carrying a huge bamboo stick with two heavy buckets on the end. One was BBQ equipment, and the other full of veg for him to grill and sell to sunbathers. His knees were nearly buckling with the weight, I wanted to help him but thought it could offend him. It's humbling to see how hard Thai people work, for very little money. We sunbathed for a while, then bought Corn on the ... read more

Woke at 10am, must have had at least 10 hours sleep last night! Guess we needed it. Went for breakfast with Coats at an Irish bar near his hotel then went to a Tourist Info place to call Quantas about Ellie's bag - finally they've located it and said it should be delivered to us in Ko Samui in 2-3days, yey! Ellie & I wandered down the main road in Chaweng looking out for the poshest hotel possible. We snuck in through the entrance of Centara Grand Beach resort, past the security guards and staff around the beacutiful poolside and on to their private area of Chawang beach. We layed down our towels and dozed for ages (despite not being tired) - you kind of can't help it, it's so relaxing lying in the sun and ... read more

Woke at our Jungle shack at 7am, the boys were still up from the night before, they'd been back to the shop numerous times to stock up on Red Bull. Rang Ant, it was just gone midnight back home so he'd just seen in the New Year. Some wild dogs nearby were chasing a Waterbuffalo around that was chained up, didn't like that. Decided to head off to Ko Samui so we packed up and arranged for a taxi to take us to the Port at Thong Sala. I'm finding living out of a suitcase no problem at all, and was excited to be off on our travels again. We drove past some birds in cages hung outside shop windows, apparently they're welded in the cages with no way of getting out which upset me as ... read more

We got up at 6.30am after 10 hours of much needed sleep. Walked round some local villages and chatted happily, in no rush to be anywhere. A dog joined us for the whole journey, we were scared of it at first but grew quite fond of it, Tom said it thought it was one of the team. Along the way it had stand-offs with other wild dogs which also looked like wolfs, but it held it's own until the smallest Chihuaua chased it off, I've never seen a dog run so fast! We stumbled accross a lovely place called Malibu Beach Bungalows with it's own private beach and stopped for some fresh fruit for breakfast. Got a taxi to Ao Haad Yo and went in an internet cafe where I could finally ring Ant - was ... read more

We woke on the train about 6am and the Thai waitress brought us some soggy bread and orange juice. The train dropped us off at Suret Thani where we got a bus to the Ferry Port, and bought the most amazing cheese sandwhich for the journey to Koh Phangan. The ferry was heaving and we were some of the lucky few who were told to sit in the VIP area of the boat for free. It was airconditioned and had leather seats that reclined right back. Tom had drank a couple of bottles of Thai Red Bull which they say has amphetamines in them, either that or it's ten times the amount of Caffine classed as legal in the UK. He talked non-stop for aaages and entertained lots of strangers as well as us. We chatted ... read more

We were up, ready and at Khao San Road by 10am. The markets were great, sold loads of fake stuff, we got some Bilabong flipflops & a maxi dress for El. Had a fruit smoothy watching the wrold go by, it's different to being on holiday when you always have to be somewhere or catching some rays. Accross the road from the cafe they were selling fake driving licences, diploma's, degree's and PADI diving licences! We also spotted a massage parlour selling fish footmassages - the sign said let our fish kiss your toes and feed on your dead skin - gross! Is that just for wierdo's with foot / fish fetishes? Ended up at a market that only the locals go to, selling second hand shoes and scruffy toys. We were the only English people ... read more

Oh my god, where do I start??! ... Maybe at the airport, I guess. Got a lift with Mam & Liam & met Ellie at Manchester Airport. We were checking in when I noticed someone was stood behind us, it was Ant, he'd driven home from Plymouth a few days early to see me off at the airport. It had taken him 8 hours - Mam and Ellie had known all about it and had been keeping him posted on the traffick reports. Bless, it was the best surprise ever! We all said our goodbyes and Ellie and I got chatting to some guy in the queue about the Full Moon party for new year. We were so engrossed we hadn't noticed them calling our flight and ended up speeding through security and running for our ... read more
